    Why visit

Young at LarioFiere in Erba is a one-day orientation decision made practical: students nearing the end of upper secondary school can compare licei, technical and vocational institutes, ITS Academies, universities and regional training centres in the same halls, instead of stitching together open days across Lombardy.

    Why exhibit

A stand at Young puts a school, ITS Academy, university department or vocational provider in front of Lombardy families while they are still comparing options, not after enrolments are settled. Open to students, families, educators, and career advisors.

    USD 150–190 / night

Breakfast chargeable, free Wi-Fi, chargeable parking, air conditioning, pet-friendly, bar and restaurant; guest rating around 3.9 from roughly 7.8K reviews. Milan base rather than an Erba property, so budget a return rail fare on the Milano Cadorna to Asso line or a car transfer of about an hour.

    Corte Milano

    Guest rating 4.6
Milan city, roughly 50 km from Erba LarioFiere

    USD 150–190 / night

Breakfast chargeable, free Wi-Fi and free parking, air conditioning, pet-friendly, bar, kitchen in some rooms, accessible, business centre. Free parking makes this workable for a driving exhibitor; allow about an hour by road to the Erba fairground.

    AN Park Hotel Milano Settala

Settala, east of Milan, roughly 55 km from Erba

    USD 150–190 / night

Breakfast chargeable, free Wi-Fi and free parking, air conditioning, pet-friendly, fitness centre, bar and restaurant; capture listed a 16% discount against the usual rate. Eastern ring-road position points toward the A4 and SS639 route to Erba rather than the Milan rail stations.

Milan city, roughly 50 km from Erba LarioFiere

    USD 95–122 / night

Breakfast chargeable, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, pet-friendly, parking, bar, restaurant, accessible; tagged with an excellent location score. Cheapest captured option for a student or teacher group budget, with a rail-plus-bus transfer to LarioFiere on show morning.

    4-star
Milan city, roughly 50 km from Erba LarioFiere

    USD 150–190 / night

Free breakfast listed among the amenities; guest rating around 3.7. Breakfast included lowers the daily spend but the property still requires a Milan-to-Erba transfer. Compare against Como or Lecco lodgings at booking, since captures returned Milan properties only.

Get around the city with these convenient transport options.

    Airport rail (Malpensa Express)

Estimated costApprox. EUR 13 one way per adult (confirm current Malpensa Express fare)
Best forMilan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Milano Centrale or Milano Cadorna

Runs to both Milano Centrale and Milano Cadorna; Cadorna is the same station used by the Trenord Milan-Asso line toward Erba, so a Cadorna-bound train usually shortens the connection. Buy before boarding and validate.

    Regional rail (Trenord)

Estimated costApprox. EUR 4-6 one way by distance band (confirm Trenord tariff)
Best forMilano Cadorna to Erba on the Milan-Asso line

This is the practical rail route into Erba. Check the last evening departure before committing to a Milan hotel, because services thin out after the commuter peak.

    Coach / long-distance bus

Estimated costEUR 2-5 single metro journey (contactless)
Best forMilan to Erba (LarioFiere area)

Rome2Rio lists coach links between Milan and Erba LarioFiere from about EUR 9; check the show-week timetable and whether the stop is at the fairground or in Erba town.

    Airport shuttle bus

Estimated costEUR 2-5 single metro journey (contactless)
Best forMilan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Milano Centrale

Several operators run Malpensa to Milano Centrale shuttles; compare pickup terminals and allow for traffic on the motorway spur before an onward train to Erba.

    Taxi

Estimated costApprox. EUR 130-170 per car (estimate; confirm fixed quote before departure)
Best forMilan Malpensa Airport (MXP) (MXP) to Lariofiere

The most practical direct option for exhibitors with stand material. Milan taxi flat rates apply inside the city, not to Erba, so agree the intercity price before setting off.

    Taxi

Estimated costApprox. EUR 120-160 per car (estimate; confirm quote)
Best forMilan Linate Airport (LIN) (LIN) to Lariofiere

Shorter distance than Malpensa but slower through the eastern Milan ring roads at peak. Travelling by rail from Linate needs a bus into the city first, so a direct car suits tight arrival windows.

    Taxi

Estimated costApprox. EUR 100-140 per car (estimate; confirm quote)
Best forMilan Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport (BGY) (BGY) to Lariofiere

Bergamo sits east of the Erba lake belt, so the road transfer is shorter than from Malpensa when traffic is light. Ask for the SS639 route rather than a Milan-bound motorway loop.

    Local bus

Estimated costApprox. EUR 1.50-2.50 single ticket in the Como/Erba zone (confirm ASF Autolinee fare)
Best forErba station or Erba town centre to LarioFiere

Local Como-province buses connect Erba station with the fairground area. Buy tickets at a tabacco shop or via the operator app before boarding where machines are absent.

    Weather

Erba sits in the Lombardy pre-Alpine belt between Lake Como and the Brianza hills, where November brings cool, damp days, low cloud and morning mist over the lake basin. Captured Open-Meteo air-quality output for the Erba coordinates near the show period showed good air (US AQI around 34, PM2.5 about 1.2 micrograms per cubic metre), so outdoor walks between the halls and the lakeside are comfortable for most visitors. Fog can slow the SS639 approach road early in the day, so allow extra driving time; sensitive travellers should still check local advisories day by day.

    Plan for the climate

    Check temperatures and pack accordingly

    Venue connectivity

Italian networks (TIM, Vodafone, WindTre, Iliad) give solid 4G and 5G coverage in Erba town and along the Milan-Como rail corridor, with weaker signal in the wooded hills above the lake and inside steel-framed exhibition halls. EU visitors usually roam on their home tariff; visitors from outside the EU should buy a prepaid SIM or eSIM data plan at Malpensa or in Milan before heading north. Download the LarioFiere plan, your registration QR code and rail tickets for offline use, and ask at the info desk about venue Wi-Fi availability and any password.

    Ride-hailing

    Taxis

    Public transit

    Car rentals

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

School-group etiquette at an Italian orientation fair

Classes usually move in supervised groups, with the teacher deciding the route and the students collecting material at each stand. If you are a family visiting independently, approach a stand when the group clears rather than cutting in, and use the quieter late-morning or early-afternoon windows for longer conversations.

    Language on the stand

Italian is the working language with state schools, ITS Academies and regional training providers. Universities with English-taught programmes and study-abroad exhibitors usually have English-speaking staff, so ask directly rather than assuming. A printed list of your questions in Italian helps at busy stands.

    Coffee and lunch timing

Erba and the Como belt run on Italian hours: bars serve coffee from early morning, many close for a break in the afternoon, and lunch sits later than in northern Europe. Eat before the busiest early-afternoon slot or plan a short break after the school groups pass, because nearby bars get crowded.

    Credentials and lead handling

Bring your badge or registration confirmation, and for exhibitors a printed GDPR-compliant consent form in Italian. Italian families often prefer a printed course sheet to a QR code alone, so keep paper backups at the stand and a clear follow-up promise for anyone who leaves an email address.

Evenings around Erba and Lake Como

Erba and the nearby lakeside towns are quiet on weekday evenings outside the summer season. Restaurants in Erba town and along the Como shore usually need a booking for groups, and the last useful trains back toward Milan leave before late evening, so fix dinner and return travel before the show day ends.

    Practical safety and payments

The European emergency number 112 works across Italy for police, ambulance and fire. Cards are widely accepted in Erba and Milan, but keep some euro coins for local buses, station machines and small bars. Validate every paper transit ticket on boarding; inspectors fine unstamped tickets, and validation is the traveller's responsibility, not the driver's.

    Flights

    Destination: MXP

Captured flight results for a 12 November 2026 arrival at Milan Malpensa show economy fares described by Google Flights as currently typical for each origin, with taxes and fees included for one adult and optional bags excluded. London has a cheaper Luton alternative alongside the nonstop British Airways service of about two hours five minutes, so compare secondary London airports before booking. New York JFK nonstops run from about seven hours thirty-five minutes, Dubai nonstops about seven hours five minutes with one-stop options via Istanbul, Zurich, Munich and Bahrain, and Singapore nonstops about thirteen hours forty minutes with connections via Bahrain, Istanbul and Dubai. Long-haul arrivals should plan a full day before the first show morning, because Malpensa to Erba adds another two to three hours by rail or about an hour by car. Linate is the better arrival point for European and domestic connections into Milan, and Bergamo Orio al Serio can undercut both on low-cost fares if you accept the coach or car transfer onward.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) (MXP): Approx. 60-80 min by car or transfer to Erba (estimate; confirm traffic); Milan Linate Airport (LIN) (LIN): Approx. 60-80 min by car (estimate; confirm traffic); Milan Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport (BGY) (BGY): Approx. 60-85 min by car (estimate; confirm traffic). Allow road or rail time to Lariofiere; on-site parking is usually available at major exhibition venues.

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near Lariofiere: Milan city, roughly 50 km from Erba LarioFiere: Hotel Da Vinci Milano; Milan city, roughly 50 km from Erba LarioFiere: Corte Milano; Settala, east of Milan, roughly 55 km from Erba: AN Park Hotel Milano Settala.

Ride-hail: Ride-hailing in the Erba area is thin, so do not count on an app car appearing at the fairground gate. Uber operates a limited Milan service rather than a full Como-province network, and local coverage comes mainly from taxi apps such as FreeNow and itTaxi plus Erba and Como taxi cooperatives. Book a return trip in advance for show evenings, especially if you are staying in Milan and need to catch a Trenord train on the Milan-Asso line, and confirm the fare or a fixed quote before the car moves.

Public transit: The useful rail spine is the Trenord Milano Cadorna to Asso line, which stops at Erba; from Erba station the LarioFiere ground is a short local bus or taxi ride, so allow 15-25 minutes for the last leg. At the Milan end, ATM runs metro, tram and bus services, with a 90-minute urban ticket costing about EUR 2.20 and needing validation on boarding. Malpensa Express links the airport to Milano Centrale and Milano Cadorna, the same station pair that feeds the Erba line. Around Erba and Como province, ASF Autolinee operates local buses; buy tickets at a tabacco shop or through the operator app before boarding. On weekday mornings the A9, A36 and SS639 corridors carry commuter traffic, so build a buffer into coach transfers and check the last evening train before booking a Milan hotel.

Parking: LarioFiere has parking on and around the fairground and is the normal arrival point for school coaches and family cars, with coach movement typically separated from car parking. Agree a pick-up point and time with your driver before the group splits up, because mobile signal can be patchy around the halls. Venue parking charges and barrier rules are set locally, so confirm the current rate on the LarioFiere or young.co.it site. Arrive 30-45 minutes before your first appointment on busy school-visit mornings, when the Erba approach roads and the SS639 slow down.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

Month: November 2026 (confirm exact Young dates on young.co.it)

Temperature: Late-autumn pattern for Erba and the Como pre-Alps: daytime highs typically around 9-14 C, night lows around 3-8 C, and colder readings on clear nights in the lake basin. These are climatological ranges rather than a forecast, so check a seven-day forecast for Erba before packing.

Seasonality: November is one of the wetter months around Erba, with roughly 10-13 rain days typical for the period, frequent overcast spells and morning fog forming over the lake and the valley approach roads. Rain usually arrives in showery bands rather than all-day downpours, but the fairground walk from the car parks is exposed, so plan for a wet arrival and allow extra driving time in fog.

Packing: Pack a waterproof jacket with a hood, layers for a cool-to-chilly range, water-resistant shoes for the walk from the LarioFiere car parks to the halls, and a compact umbrella for the lakeside. Indoor halls are heated and crowded with school groups, so choose a light mid-layer you can remove during the day. Add a power bank, a refillable water bottle and a folder for catalogues, since bags fill quickly at an orientation fair.

    Plan your trip

    Planning

agree a shortlist of institutions you actually want to see, split by study area, and drop the rest.

    Day 11

write three questions per shortlisted stand, for example admission test dates, PCTO partners or scholarship deadlines.

    Day 10

download the LarioFiere site plan and mark the halls for universities, ITS Academies and vocational providers.

    Day 9

check whether any exhibition sessions or guidance talks need separate booking and reserve a seat if so.

    Day 8

plan the journey - Trenord Milano Cadorna to Asso line to Erba, or coach and car via the SS639 - and note the last return service.

    Day 7

confirm who travels with you and whether parents or teachers need a separate registration.

    Day 6

prepare a one-page student profile with subjects, grades and interests to hand to counsellors.

    Day 5

charge a power bank and download offline maps and tickets in case mobile data drops inside the halls.

    FAQs & glossary

    Answers

    Frequently asked

What is Young in Erba and what happens there?
Young is an orientation fair (salone dell'orientamento) held at LarioFiere in Erba, in the Como province of Lombardy. Upper secondary schools, ITS Academies, universities, vocational training centres and guidance services exhibit so students and families can compare study paths, admission routes and support schemes in a single visit.
Who should attend Young in Erba?
The fair is aimed primarily at students in the final years of upper secondary school and their families, together with teachers, tutors and school guidance officers who organise class visits. Adults considering vocational retraining or language certification can also use the fair to talk to training providers directly.
Where exactly is the venue and how do I reach LarioFiere?
LarioFiere sits in Erba (CO), in the lake belt between Como and Lecco. The practical rail route is the Trenord Milano Cadorna to Asso line, which stops at Erba; from the station the exhibition centre is a short bus or taxi ride. By car the approach is via the SS639 and local Erba roads, with on-site parking at the fairground.
Do school groups need to register before the visit?
Group visits organised by schools normally require prior arrangement with the organiser so that arrival time, numbers and any guided slot are confirmed. Check young.co.it for the current group procedure and cut-off date before booking a coach.
Is entry to Young free for students and families?
Entry conditions are set by the organiser and can change between editions, so confirm the current ticket or free-entry policy on young.co.it rather than assuming from previous years. Schools should also check whether their group list replaces individual registration.
How do I get to LarioFiere from Milan Malpensa?
Take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale or Milano Cadorna, then a Trenord regional train on the Milan to Asso line toward Erba, followed by a local bus or taxi to LarioFiere. Allow roughly two and a half to three hours door to door with connections, more at peak times. A direct pre-booked transfer from Malpensa is quicker and is the usual choice for exhibitors carrying stand material.
Can I park at LarioFiere and is there coach parking?
LarioFiere has on-site parking around the halls and is the normal arrival point for school coaches and family cars. Rates and barrier rules are set by the venue, so confirm current parking charges and the coach drop-off point on the LarioFiere or young.co.it site before travelling.
What should a student bring to the fair?
Bring a written shortlist of three to five institutions, questions prepared per stand, a notebook or phone notes app for admissions dates, and a copy of your school results or predicted grades if you plan to ask about entry requirements. Bring a reusable bag for catalogues and a charged phone for QR codes and follow-up registrations.
Which languages are used at Young?
The working language is Italian, because the exhibitors are mainly Italian state schools, ITS Academies, universities and regional training providers. Some universities and study-abroad exhibitors present English-taught programmes in English, so non-Italian-speaking families should target those stands and request English-language material.
Can institutions from outside Lombardy or outside Italy exhibit?
Stand allocation is decided by the organiser and typically favours Lombardy and northern Italian providers, with some international or study-abroad participation. Institutions interested in a stand should contact the organiser through young.co.it rather than assume a place is available.

    Glossary

    1
    Orientamento
The Italian term for educational and career guidance: the structured process of matching a student's aptitudes and results to a study track, then to further study or work. At Young it is the organising theme of the whole fair.
    2
    Salone dell'orientamento
An orientation fair where schools, universities, academies and training providers exhibit side by side so students and families can compare pathways in one visit. Young is described in these terms on the Italian education circuit.
    3
    Diploma di maturita
The Italian upper secondary school leaving qualification, taken at the end of a five-year liceo, technical or vocational course. It is the entry ticket to university, ITS Academy and most post-diploma vocational routes.
    4
    ITS Academy
Italy's non-university higher technical institutes, offering short two-year post-diploma programmes co-designed with employers in fields such as mechatronics, ICT, energy and logistics. They recruit heavily at orientation fairs because their courses are less known to families than university degrees.

    PCTO
Percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l'orientamento: the compulsory school-work alternation periods that upper secondary students complete, often with companies or public bodies. Exhibitors that host PCTO placements can use the fair to recruit students directly.

    Test di ammissione
The admission test used by Italian universities for capped-access degrees such as medicine, engineering, architecture or psychology. For a family comparing options, the test date and preparation route matter as much as the course content.
    7
    Diritto allo studio
Right-to-study provisions: regional grants, fee reductions, transport passes and student accommodation for eligible households. These are frequently asked about at orientation fairs because they change the real cost of staying in study.
    8
    Tirocinio
A supervised internship period, curricular or extra-curricular, used by universities, ITS Academies and training centres to give students workplace hours. Providers at the fair usually show which partner companies host their tirocini.
    9
    Open day
A scheduled campus visit day when a school, academy or university opens laboratories and departments to prospective students and families. Exhibitors at Young typically use the fair stand to book visitors into a later open day.
    10
    CFU
Crediti formativi universitari: the credit units used by Italian universities to measure course workload, with roughly 25 hours of student work per credit. Useful when comparing the length and weight of different degree programmes.
