    Testimonials

While food and catering remains at the heart of the passenger journey, it's now a much bigger picture. Sustainability, design, wellness, and the role of operations to drive efficiencies, sustainability and improve passenger experience all playing a key role in getting the passenger experience right across the world and across all cabins. The industry behind it all is more motivated than ever to strike the right balance between premium service and operational reality. WTCE 2026 was once again a vital event for the supply chain to build and nurture the partnerships that will define how we will all fly over the next decade

    Shona Thomson · Event Manager · WTCE 2026 · 2026

It's been a fantastic opportunity to be back meeting with suppliers and caterers, networking effectively, and discovering new possibilities, especially for our work in Austria as we redesign our F&B online experience and seek out new innovations across the board. WTCE 2025 has been truly successful, amazing, and is a must-go-to

Simone Walli · Culinary Art and F&B Onboard Concepts · Austrian Airlines · 2025

We love this show, it's a wonderful combination of bonhomie, camaraderie and competition

    Robin Padgett · CEO · dnata · 2023

It's nice to catch up with the people we work with on a regular basis, and it's been a really good show this year. There is a nice span of suppliers in attendance. I'm more interested in the onboard food offerings, so it's been great to be able to set up meetings beforehand via the WTCE Connect tool to talk about this area of the business. There are both big and small suppliers here which wasn't always the case and is great to see. It is really easy and convenient to have everything in one place at WTCE

Hari Ghotra · Senior Manager of Inflight Food and Beverage Development and Ancillaries · Virgin Atlantic · 2023

This is the best show we have ever had, and we've been coming since inception. We have always enjoyed it, and this year has passed our expectations. It's a huge commitment for most of the industry and the show has generated a years' worth of work for us. WTCE provides us with great leads, and we have had the chance to rebuild and rekindle relationships

    Impact

    A bigger and stronger platform

WTCE 2026 demonstrated the continued strength and evolution of the onboard services industry, bringing together 319 exhibiting companies and over 4,000 passenger experience professionals at Hamburg Messe. The event attracted representatives from more than 160 airlines from 66 countries, along with procurement teams from over 50 leading inflight caterers and 14 rail companies including Eurostar, DB Fernverkehr, Trenitalia, Amtrak and LNER. Senior decision-makers from 160 airlines signed up for the VIP Buyer Programme, reflecting the event's critical role as a procurement and partnership platform. New features such as the Drinks Zone, Discover Zone, New Exhibitor Village and themed exhibitor trails, alongside a dedicated hall for gategroup's 95th anniversary, showcased how the industry is embracing sustainability, digital innovation and passenger-centric design. The event reinforced WTCE's position as the essential global meeting point for the inflight catering, onboard services and passenger comfort supply chain

    Audience quality

    High-value decision-makers

WTCE consistently attracts a high-calibre audience of senior decision-makers and procurement professionals from across the global onboard services industry. At the 2026 edition, senior decision-makers from 160 airlines signed up for the VIP Buyer Programme, including representatives from American Airlines, United Airlines, Turkish Airlines, easyJet, Emirates, Lufthansa, Wizz Air, Delta Air Lines, Qantas and British Airways. Representatives from more than 160 airlines from 66 countries attended, alongside procurement teams from over 50 of the world's leading inflight caterers. Fourteen rail companies also attended, including Eurostar, DB Fernverkehr, Trenitalia, Amtrak and LNER. The 2025 edition saw over 1,600 senior decision-makers attend as VIPs, with a 3.6% increase in attendance from rail and catering buyers. This concentration of buyers with real purchasing authority makes WTCE a uniquely efficient platform for exhibitors seeking to build relationships, generate leads and secure contracts in the onboard industry

    Exhibitor outcomes

    Real business growth

Exhibitors at WTCE report tangible return on investment through lead generation, brand building and long-term contract wins. Around Noon, a food-to-go manufacturer, used its WTCE debut to increase its profile in the travel sector, with the sector now accounting for 20% of its business. The company generated new leads and potential new customers at the show, and Senior Account Manager Shelly Levy described the lead scanning tool as useful and easy to use, emphasising that every scanned contact was a potential new lead. DELILITES, a bakery manufacturer, secured the entire buy-on-board programme for Aer Lingus after first presenting to the airline at WTCE, and continues to generate new airline listings each year. The company adds 20-25 potential airline leads to its pipeline annually. According to DELILITES, success in the airline catering industry is built on relationships and consistency, with a three-to-four-year process being typical before contracts materialise. WTCE's timing in April aligns with buyers' winter and summer/spring range buying cycles, making it a strategically important platform for suppliers seeking to enter or expand within the airline and rail catering market

    Intelligence

    Market context

Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

Global — WTCE serves the worldwide inflight catering, onboard services and passenger comfort industry, with a particularly strong presence in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and North America. The event draws exhibitors and buyers from 30+ countries and 160+ airlines across 66 countries

    Why it matters

WTCE 2027 matters because the onboard experience is evolving rapidly, and passenger expectations are rising. Airlines, rail operators and caterers must deliver more comfort, more innovation and more value while advancing sustainability goals and driving ancillary revenue. With the global inflight catering market projected to grow from USD 17.36 billion in 2025 to USD 27.7 billion by 2031, and the inflight retail and advertising market growing at over 8% CAGR, WTCE provides a critical marketplace where buyers can discover cutting-edge solutions, sample products, and forge partnerships that will define how the industry flies over the next decade. The co-location with Aircraft Interiors Expo (450+ exhibitors, 13,000+ attendees, 192+ airlines) and the Passenger Experience Conference (65+ expert speakers from 20+ airlines) creates a comprehensive passenger experience ecosystem, giving attendees access to the full spectrum of cabin innovations, onboard services and strategic industry content in one place. For suppliers, WTCE offers direct access to procurement teams from over 50 leading inflight caterers and 160+ airlines — the highest concentration of onboard buyers anywhere in the world

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Inflight Catering Market Sustains Strong Growth Momentum

The global inflight catering market is projected to grow from USD 17.36 billion in 2025 to USD 18.77 billion in 2026, reaching USD 27.7 billion by 2031 at an 8.10% CAGR. Recorded passenger volumes (4.96 billion projected for 2025), a premium-cabin refresh cycle, and digital pre-order platforms are collectively increasing per-passenger spend. Airlines are modernising galleys, rolling out chef-curated menus, and embedding retail mechanics that monetise ancillary demand, while investments in AI-driven menu planning and cold-chain automation reduce waste and defend margins

    Source
    02

Sustainability Shifts from Commitment to Measurable Operational Impact

Inflight caterers are increasingly being measured by their ability to deliver tangible sustainability results rather than by their stated commitments. Organisations are implementing initiatives to reduce waste, improve landfill diversion, and lower water and energy consumption, with sustainable procurement gaining momentum. Products made from rescued food ingredients, ocean-recovered plastics and recycled textiles are entering the onboard supply chain, alongside compostable service ware and lightweight galley equipment. Community food redistribution programmes and employee wellbeing initiatives are also gaining traction as part of a broader ESG framework

    Source
    03

AI and Digital Integration Transform Onboard Operations and Retail

Artificial intelligence is being integrated into forecasting, production planning, inventory management and disruption recovery across catering networks. The inflight retail and advertising market is growing from USD 3.43 billion in 2025 to USD 3.71 billion in 2026 at an 8.4% CAGR, with passenger behaviour evolving beyond impulse purchases toward integrated digital experiences, seamless pre-trip shopping, and highly relevant advertising. Smart galley management systems leverage BLE tracking and predictive analytics to optimise maintenance, while AI-based solutions monitor consumption in real-time to reduce food waste

    Source
    04

APAC Emerges as a Growth Engine Reshaping Cabin Innovation

Asia-Pacific accounts for more than a third of global air passenger traffic and is entering a new phase of aviation expansion. Ultra-long-haul flying is placing passenger comfort, sleep and wellbeing at the centre of cabin design, while high digital expectations are pushing airlines to invest heavily in high-performance inflight connectivity and personalised digital platforms. APAC carriers have long set a benchmark for premium cabin innovation, and cabin design has become a strategic tool for brand differentiation in one of the world's most competitive aviation markets

    Source
    05

Passenger Comfort Innovation Accelerates Across All Cabin Classes

Airlines are investing heavily in passenger comfort, with Lufthansa committing over €70 million to its Future Onboard eXperience (FOX) initiative, a complete overhaul of long-haul onboard services across all cabin classes. Emirates is rolling out an adjustable U-Dream headrest for Economy Class and introduced the world's first electric Premium Economy seat with a full-height privacy screen. Airlines favour comfort improvements that preserve cabin density — a lightweight headrest can improve support without changing the cabin layout, reflecting a broader industry push toward personalised comfort that does not sacrifice operational efficiency

This includes the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and most Caribbean nations. Germany accepts ATA Carnets for all standard categories: commercial samples, professional equipment, and goods for exhibitions and trade fairs. The ATA Carnet is a customs document that facilitates the temporary import of goods without paying customs duties or import VAT. It is valid for up to 12 months and can cover the show, pre-show setup, and post-show transit to other EU venues. Non-EU exhibitors bringing goods to WTCE 2027 should apply for an ATA Carnet through their local Chamber of Commerce or authorised issuing body. In Hamburg, the Chamber of Commerce issues ATA Carnets for a fee of €65 for member companies and €105 for non-members, plus an ICC fee of €12 net plus 19% VAT. Excluded from ATA Carnet coverage are consumables (e.g., food samples that are consumed, giveaways, printed materials that are distributed). Exhibitors should contact the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce or their local issuing office for current procedures

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Punctuality and Formality

Doing business in Hamburg is all about order, structure and precision. Show up on time — anything else will make a disastrous first impression. Cancelling appointments on short notice is particularly frowned upon. Address everyone by title and surname until invited to do otherwise. Shake hands firmly and briefly with everyone present, before and after the meeting. Beyond the handshake, avoid physical contact. Dress conservatively in grey and dark colours

    Communication Style

Germans, and northern Germans in particular, tend to be straightforward and formal. Cut to the chase and be direct about your thoughts and wishes — Germans will do the same. Private topics are usually avoided, and discussing personal income is a no-go. Hamburg locals may seem reserved at first but warm up once trust is established; locals describe this as 'hard shell, soft core.' Business meetings can be lengthy due to detailed presentations and charts

    Tipping and Payments

While tipping is not mandatory in Germany, it is customary to give a 10% tip in cafes, bars and restaurants, or to round up the bill for small purchases. Many shops and restaurants in Hamburg may not accept credit or debit cards, so it is advisable to carry some cash in euros

    The 'Hamburger Du'

In Hamburg, a unique linguistic convention called the 'Hamburger du' allows a superior to address a subordinate by their first name while still using the formal 'Sie.' However, subordinates must always address superiors with 'Sie' and 'Herr' or 'Frau' plus surname. When in doubt, always default to 'Sie' as a sign of respect

    Practical guides

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: Hamburg Airport (HAM)

Hamburg Airport (HAM) is the primary gateway, served by almost 60 airlines with direct connections to around 130 cities in over 40 countries. Book flights early for the best fares, especially for the week of 6-8 April 2027. HotelMap is the official accommodation partner for WTCE. For European travellers, Hamburg Hauptbahnhof also offers direct express train connections from Berlin, Frankfurt and Cologne

    Visa

Most non-EU/non-Schengen nationals require a Schengen Type C visa for business/trade fair purposes to attend WTCE 2027 in Hamburg. Citizens of 62+ countries (including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, and most of Latin America) can enter visa-free for up to 90 days. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens do not require a visa. Exhibitors from visa-required countries can have visa fees waived by submitting an Exhibitor Acceptance Form from the trade fair organiser. Applications can be lodged up to 6 months before travel; for WTCE 2027 (6 April), the filing window opens around 6 October 2026

Processing: 15 calendar days standard; up to 45 days in exceptional cases

Required documents for trade fair visitors typically include: passport (valid at least 3 months beyond departure, with 2 blank pages), completed visa application form, recent biometric photo, travel medical insurance (minimum €30,000 coverage), proof of accommodation for the entire stay, round-trip flight reservation, bank statements for the last 3 months, employer letter confirming employment and trip approval, and trade fair ticket or registration confirmation. For exhibitors: stand confirmation from the organiser, proof of stand fee payment, and Exhibitor Acceptance Form (visa fee waived). Hamburg Messe offers an invitation letter service and can be contacted via their visa service form. The standard Schengen visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6, effective from 11 June 2024. A service fee of approximately €24-35 applies at outsourced visa application centres. Apply at the German embassy or consulate responsible for your country of residence. Do not purchase non-refundable travel before the visa is granted
