This was a really good show. We came from out of state, and it was nice to see what is happening in the industry. There were some great vendors that gave lots of significant information.

We visit the show every year and it just keeps getting better and better. In fact, last year we purchased a heavy duty trailer at the (2018) expo after testing it in the outdoor equipment area.

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Climate adaptation and resilient design become core issues in the industry

The global landscape industry is making climate adaptation a top priority. The trend barometer of GaLaBau 2026, Europe's leading horticulture and landscape show, shows that climate adaptation will be the decisive theme of the year ahead. The industry is shifting from climate mitigation to climate resilient design, with demand for nature-based solutions such as sponge cities, blue-green infrastructure, and rain gardens surging.

    02

AI, automation and intelligent technologies accelerate industry transformation

Artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and automation technologies are reshaping the landscape industry. AI-driven smart irrigation controllers automatically adjust based on weather forecasts, and automatic/robotic lawn mowers are becoming mainstream. GaLaBau 2026 will set up FUTURE SPACE for the first time to showcase digital solutions such as digital planning tools, AI-assisted design, and cloud systems.

    Source
    03

Water resources management and smart irrigation have become urgent needs in the industry

Water shortages and water-saving regulations have accelerated the popularization of smart irrigation technology. Weather base station controllers, soil moisture sensors and AI dispatch are moving from 'nice to have' to standard practice. The convergence of IoT connectivity, sensor miniaturization, cloud analytics and sustainable water policies is reshaping the irrigation industry. Global water conservation regulations require public landscape projects to incorporate high-efficiency irrigation technologies.

    Source
    04

Labor shortage and competition for skilled talents intensify

Attracting and retaining skilled workers is one of the key challenges facing the green industry. Industry exhibitions have begun to set up special projects to attract young talents, such as the Landscape Gardener Cup of GaLaBau 2026 and GaLaBau CAMP. TNLA's Nursery/Landscape EXPO also offers student travel scholarships to help the next generation of professionals participate in industry events.

    Source
    05

Outdoor living spaces and experiential landscapes continue to heat up

Residential projects continue to focus on creating 'outdoor rooms' terraces, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, etc. as natural extensions of the home. Millennials and Generation Z have significantly increased their investment in outdoor spaces. Nearly 51% of Millennials in the United States prefer to renovate their outdoor spaces. Landscape design is transforming from simple greening to experiential and social scenes.
