Spain is part of the Schengen area. Travellers from the EU, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and around 60 other visa-waiver countries can enter for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for trade-fair business, meetings and tourism without a visa, provided the passport is valid at least three months beyond departure. Visa-exempt visitors will also need an approved ETIAS travel authorisation (EUR 7, online, valid three years) once the EU system is live. Nationals of non-waiver countries must obtain a Schengen short-stay Type C visa (EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6–12) through the Spanish consulate or an authorised centre such as BLS or VFS, applying between six months and 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 calendar days and can stretch to 45 days in peak season, so apply at least eight weeks ahead and allow time for a biometrics appointment. Carry the organiser's invitation letter, hotel booking, return ticket and travel insurance (minimum EUR 30,000 medical cover) for border checks, and note that samples and stand equipment can travel duty-free on an ATA Carnet.
