    Impact

    A bigger and stronger platform

The Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE) has established itself as the world's largest dedicated exhibition, conference, and awards for plastics recycling. The 10th anniversary edition in 2026 brought together more than 11,500 attendees, over 500 exhibitors, and more than 70 speakers, confirming its position as the preeminent gathering for the European plastics recycling value chain. European Commissioner Jessika Roswall delivered the opening keynote and participated in a roundtable with CEOs of 11 companies, underscoring the event's growing policy relevance. The event has grown from a focused industry gathering into a critical platform for addressing market pressures, regulatory challenges, and technological innovation, with over 13,000 attendees in 2025 marking an all-time high.

    Audience quality

    High-value decision-makers

PRSE attracts a high-level, targeted audience of professionals from across the plastics recycling value chain, including machinery suppliers, recyclers, waste management companies, material producers, compounders, brand owners, and industry associations. Visitors to the 2026 event represented 109 countries, underscoring the event's international reach. The 2026 edition drew senior decision-makers and influencers, with a European Commissioner delivering the keynote and participating in a CEO roundtable. Exhibitor feedback highlighted high-quality customers and real business interest.

    Exhibitor outcomes

    Real business growth

Exhibitors at PRSE report strong returns from participation, citing high-quality customer engagement, real business interest rather than just promotional giveaways, and the opportunity to meet the who's-who of the European plastics recycling industry. The event provides a cost-effective way to keep abreast of competitor activity, raise company profile, launch new products, generate fresh leads, meet existing customers, and conduct face-to-face meetings with potential customers. Exhibitors can leverage the conference programme, awards, and networking events such as the PRSE Boat Party to maximize their return on investment.

    Europe

    Why it matters

PRSE 2027 arrives at a critical inflection point for the European plastics recycling industry. The sector faces a paradox: regulatory deadlines are tightening (PPWR requires all packaging to be recyclable by 2030), yet recyclers are delaying investment due to high financing costs and economic uncertainty. Europe will need to at least double plastics recycling capacity by 2030 to meet EU requirements, and investment must begin accelerating by around 2028. The European recycled plastics market is projected to grow from $17.6 billion in 2026 to $28.9 billion by 2031 at a 7.3% CAGR. With over 11,500 attendees and 500+ exhibitors at the 2026 edition, PRSE remains the single most important commercial and knowledge-sharing platform for anyone involved in plastics recycling in Europe. The event is uniquely positioned to connect the entire value chain—from recyclers and machinery suppliers to brands, converters, and policymakers—at a time when structural solutions are urgently needed

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Investment Caution Persists Despite Looming EU Deadlines

Europe's plastics recycling industry is expected to remain cautious for at least another year, despite EU recycling deadlines requiring a sharp increase in processing capacity by 2030. High financing costs, economic uncertainty, and a lack of confidence that recently higher plastic prices will last are causing customers to delay recycling projects. Tomra Systems does not expect a plastics recovery in 2026 and said it may not arrive in 2027 either, with investment needing to accelerate by around 2028 to meet the 2030 deadline

    02

EU Recycled Plastics Market on Track for 7.3% CAGR Through 2031

The Europe Recycled Plastics Market was valued at $17,593.1 million in 2026 and is projected to reach $28,853.1 million by 2031, representing a compound annual growth rate of 7.3%. Growth is driven by increasingly stringent EU regulations on plastic waste management, mandatory circular economy targets across member states, corporate sustainability commitments, and technological advancements in chemical and mechanical recycling. Germany leads European recycled plastics adoption with $3,602 million in market size

    Source
    03

PPWR Enters Full Application, Reshaping Packaging Recycling Requirements

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) applies generally from 12 August 2026, replacing the old Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive. New requirements include 2030 and 2040 targets for minimum recycled content (up to 65% for single-use plastic bottles by 2040), minimising substances of concern including PFAS, binding re-use targets of 40% for transport and sales packaging by 2030, recyclability performance grades, and stricter labelling for packaging. The regulation applies to all types of packaging placed on the EU market

    04

Structural Crisis Persists Despite Temporary Relief from Oil Price Spikes

The sharp increase in oil prices during Q1 2026 temporarily altered plastics market economics as virgin plastics became more expensive, providing short-term relief to Europe's plastics recycling industry. However, structural problems remain fully unresolved: the competitiveness of recycled plastics continues to be structurally tied to fossil fuel prices, making the sector extremely vulnerable to future market shocks. Exports of plastic waste to non-OECD countries will be banned from 21 November 2026, and Europe has already lost 1 million tonnes of plastic recycling capacity between 2023 and 2025

    05

Digital Product Passports Emerge as Traceability Solution for Recycled Polymers

Traceability technology is turning contaminated, low-value plastic waste into certified, premium recycled polymer feedstock across Europe. This growth, at a volume CAGR of 7.5%, corresponds to a market worth USD 35.7 billion with a CAGR of 10.1% from 2027 to 2033. Digital product passports are quietly solving Europe's biggest recycling problem by enabling certification and quality assurance throughout the value chain

Norway's Tomra Systems expects Europe's plastics recycling industry to remain cautious for at least another year despite EU recycling deadlines requiring capacity to at least double by 2030. High financing costs and economic uncertainty are causing customers to delay recycling projects. Tomra does not expect a plastics recovery in 2026 and said it may not arrive in 2027 either

It eliminates import duties and VAT on temporarily imported goods. Exhibition materials covered include stand construction, displays, demonstration models, and presentation material. Exhibitors should ensure every border crossing is stamped to avoid customs issues. https://thecustomscompany.com/ata-carnet-temporary-admission/

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Direct Communication Style

Dutch business culture values directness and honesty. Colleagues give straightforward feedback as a sign of trust and clarity, not conflict. A direct 'no' or 'I don't agree' is common and acceptable.

    Punctuality Matters

Timekeeping is important in Dutch culture. Arriving on time for meetings and events is a sign of respect. If you expect to be late, even by a few minutes, it is polite to let the other person know.

    Flat Hierarchies and Informal Address

Workplaces in Amsterdam tend to have flat hierarchies. Managers are approachable and everyone's input is valued. Meetings are open discussions where even junior team members share opinions. Using first names is common, even with senior colleagues.

    Greetings and Personal Space

In formal or professional situations, a handshake with eye contact is the standard greeting. Among friends, three kisses on alternating cheeks are common. The Dutch value personal space, so avoid standing too close or touching during casual conversations.

    English Widely Spoken

The working language in Amsterdam business settings is English, especially in international environments. Learning Dutch is encouraged but not necessary for business visitors.

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

Nationals of other countries must apply for a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) in advance at a Dutch embassy or consulate. PRSE 2027 takes place 29-30 June 2027 at RAI Amsterdam. https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/policies/migration-and-asylum/eu-immigration-portal/international-service-provider-netherlands_en

From October 2025, the European Entry/Exit System (EES) is used for non-EU visitors entering the Schengen area for short stays, replacing manual passport stamping. https://www.holland.com/global/meetings/support/how-can-we-help/entry-requirements-for-business-visitors

    Should you go?

Answer 8 quick questions to determine whether PRSE 2027 is right for you as a visitor, an exhibitor, or whether you should skip this edition

    QUESTION 1 OF 8

What best describes your organisation's role in the plastics recycling value chain?

    Decision matrix

Compare participation options side by side to choose the best fit for your objectives.

    visit

You need to evaluate suppliers, understand EU regulatory developments (PPWR, PET bottle recycling rules), or benchmark competitors without committing to a stand

    Best for

Recyclers, brand owners, converters, and policymakers seeking market intelligence, supplier sourcing, and regulatory updates

    Min. budget

    $500.00

    Timeline

1–3 months before the event for travel booking; registration is free for pre-registered trade visitors

    Risks

Travel and accommodation costs can escalate if booked late, especially during peak Amsterdam summer season

The show is trade-only and strictly for professionals aged 16+; no general public access

Without a clear agenda, visitors may miss key exhibitors or conference sessions relevant to their goals

    exhibit

You have a proven product or service for the plastics recycling market, a clear target audience, and the resources to execute a professional exhibition presence

    Best for

Plastics recycling machinery suppliers, material producers, recyclers, and service providers targeting the European market

    Min. budget

    $15,000.00

    Timeline

6–12 months before the event to secure booth space, design a stand, and plan logistics

    Risks

Significant upfront investment (booth space from €417/m² plus stand build, travel, and accommodation)

ROI depends on pre-show marketing and effective lead follow-up

Competition for attendee attention is high with 500+ exhibitors

    skip

Your products or services do not serve the plastics recycling industry, you have no plans to enter the European market, or the cost of participation clearly exceeds the expected return

    Best for

Organisations outside the plastics recycling value chain, companies with no European market ambitions, or those facing prohibitive travel or budget constraints

    Min. budget

    Not yet confirmed

    Timeline

    N/A

    Risks

Missing opportunities to connect with the European plastics recycling industry if your market focus changes

Competitors may gain visibility and market share in your absence
