With a focus on indie art and design, the fair offers a diverse range of products, allowing visitors to engage directly with creators and purchase art without commission fees.

    Why visit

Parallax Art Fair fills Kensington Town Hall on 18-19 October 2026 with independent artists and makers who exhibit and sell their own work, and the real draw is the directness of the encounter: the person behind the painting, print, sculpture or textile is usually standing beside it, so you can ask how it was made, what it is made of, whether it is part of a series, and what a commissioned version would cost.

    Why exhibit

Exhibiting at Parallax Art Fair allows artists to showcase their work directly to the public, keep 100% of their sales, and engage with a diverse audience. The fair's low-cost exhibition model and absence of commission fees make it an attractive opportunity for independent artists.

    Arrival airports

Choose from the following airports, with convenient access to the event and venue.

    LHR

    London Heathrow

The most practical gateway for Kensington Town Hall. Elizabeth line and Piccadilly line options reach central London without road congestion; allow extra time on weekday mornings

Approx. 20 km west of Kensington

    to venue

Approx. 35-60 min by road; Heathrow Express to Paddington takes about 15 min, then a short taxi or Tube hop

    by car

    LGW

    London Gatwick

A strong second choice for European and long-haul carriers. The rail leg into Victoria is usually faster and more predictable than a road transfer across south London

Approx. 45 km south of Kensington

    to venue

Approx. 60-90 min by road; Gatwick Express to Victoria about 30 min, then Circle or District line

    by car

    STN

    London Stansted

Busy with short-haul European traffic. The train into Liverpool Street plus a Circle line connection is the usual route; a taxi all the way to Kensington is expensive and slow in traffic

Approx. 60 km north-east of Kensington

    to venue

Approx. 75-100 min by road; Stansted Express to Liverpool Street about 50 min, then Circle line

    by car

    LCY

    London City

Small, quick to clear and closest to central London, but with fewer long-haul connections. Useful if you are arriving from a European city with a direct LCY service

Approx. 17 km east of Kensington

    to venue

Approx. 45-60 min by road; DLR to Bank then District or Circle line

    by car

    SEN

    London Southend

A smaller alternative airport used by some low-cost carriers. Only worth it if the fare saving is significant, because the onward journey is the longest of the London options

Approx. 65 km east of Kensington

    to venue

Approx. 75-100 min; Greater Anglia to Liverpool Street then Circle line

    Weather

Mid-October in London is typically mild, grey and changeable. Expect daytime highs of roughly 14-16 C and night-time lows of about 9-10 C, with rain falling on a fair share of days in the month rather than a settled dry spell. Showers often pass quickly, so a packable waterproof layer and a small umbrella are more useful than a heavy coat. Daylight fades early in the afternoon, so if you plan to walk around Kensington after the fair, finish outdoor plans before dusk. Check a short-range forecast in the 48 hours before travelling, because autumn patterns in London can shift from bright and breezy to wet and windy within a day.

    Plan for the climate

    Check temperatures and pack accordingly

    Venue connectivity

UK mobile coverage in central London is generally strong on EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, and 5G is widely available around Kensington. Visitors travelling from the EU should note that UK networks no longer apply EU roaming rules, so check your home operator's rates or buy a prepaid SIM or travel eSIM on arrival; eSIMs can be installed before you fly and are usually the simplest option for a two-day trip. Public Wi-Fi exists in many cafes and hotels but is best avoided for card payments. Venue Wi-Fi at Kensington Town Hall varies by event, so do not assume a usable connection on the fair floor - download tickets, maps and any card reader app data in advance. UK mains power is 230V with Type G three-pin plugs, so travellers from Europe, North America and Asia will need an adapter.

    Taxis

    Public transit

    Car rentals

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Currency and payments

London runs on pounds sterling and card or contactless payment is standard almost everywhere, including market stalls and black cabs. Carry a small amount of cash for the rare cash-only exhibitor, and check whether your card adds a foreign-transaction fee on small purchases.

    Buying from an artist

At a direct-sale fair it is normal to ask about materials, edition size, framing and delivery before agreeing a price. Artist-set prices are usually firm, but asking politely about a multi-piece purchase or a commission is not considered rude.

    Photography etiquette

Ask before photographing an exhibitor's work up close, and never photograph a price list or another buyer's purchase without permission. A quick request usually gets a yes and often starts a useful conversation about the work.

    Greetings and small talk

A handshake and first names are normal in British art and design settings. Small talk about the weather or the journey is standard before getting to business, and understatement is more usual than hard selling.

    Tipping and service charges

Restaurant bills often include a discretionary service charge of around 12.5 percent; check before adding a tip. Tipping in pubs is not expected, and taxis usually round up rather than add a percentage.

    Punctuality and closing times

Londoners keep to appointment times, and fair venues often close promptly at the published hour. Plan your last major purchase at least 30 minutes before closing so there is time to wrap, pay and record the sale.

    Accessibility and space

Aisles at a town-hall fair can be narrow and busy on the Saturday. Ask the organiser about quieter visiting times and step-free routes if you use a wheelchair, a pushchair or a walking aid.

    Language and paperwork

Everything at the fair is conducted in English, and receipts are normally issued in English. If you need a VAT receipt or export paperwork for a purchase taken abroad, ask the exhibitor or the organiser before you pay.

    Flights

    Destination: LHR

For Kensington, Heathrow is the shortest and most predictable transfer, so book LHR unless another London airport is materially cheaper or offers a direct route you cannot get elsewhere. Mid-October is a busy point in London's art calendar, with galleries, auctions and fairs competing for hotel rooms, so book flights and accommodation early and favour refundable rates. Allow at least three hours between leaving Kensington and a long-haul departure, and add more if you are crossing London to Gatwick or Stansted during the working week. For European arrivals, London City is the quickest airport to clear and connect from, but its route network is limited. Check baggage allowances carefully if you plan to bring a purchase home, and consider paying for an extra cabin bag rather than risking a framed work in the hold.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: London Heathrow (LHR): Approx. 35-60 min by road; Heathrow Express to Paddington takes about 15 min, then a short taxi or Tube hop; London Gatwick (LGW): Approx. 60-90 min by road; Gatwick Express to Victoria about 30 min, then Circle or District line; London Stansted (STN): Approx. 75-100 min by road; Stansted Express to Liverpool Street about 50 min, then Circle line; London City (LCY): Approx. 45-60 min by road; DLR to Bank then District or Circle line. Allow road or rail ti

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near Kensington Town Hall: Kensington: Hotel Indigo London - Kensington by IHG; Kensington High Street: Holiday Inn London - Kensington High St. by IHG; Kensington: Hilton London Kensington.

Ride-hail: Ride-hailing is well established in London, with Uber, Bolt and FREENOW all operating across Kensington, alongside the traditional black cabs that can be hailed on the street or booked through apps. For the last mile from High Street Kensington station to Kensington Town Hall, a ride-hail is rarely worth the wait unless it is raining hard or you are carrying a large framed work. Airport pickups (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City) can carry surcharges, minimum fares and drop-off charges, so compare the quoted price with the Elizabeth line, Piccadilly line or Gatwick Express before booking. If you are travelling alone late in the evening, share your trip details through the app and wait inside the venue until the car is close.

Public transit: Transport for London runs the Underground, buses, DLR and Overground, and the network reaches Kensington from every London airport. High Street Kensington, on the District and Circle lines, is the closest station to Kensington Town Hall, roughly a five to ten minute walk along Hornton Street. Kensington (Olympia) and Notting Hill Gate offer alternative District, Overground and Central line connections if your hotel is elsewhere. Contactless bank cards, phones or an Oyster card are the standard ways to pay, with daily and weekly caps applied automatically to contactless journeys. Buses along Kensington High Street are frequent and cost a flat single fare with a free transfer inside the Hopper window. Check tfl.gov.uk for live fares, planned engineering works and step-free station information before you travel, since weekend closures on the District and Circle lines are common.

Parking: Kensington is dense central London, so treat driving as the exception rather than the plan. Parking near Kensington Town Hall is limited and usually chargeable, with controlled bays, resident zones and short maximum stays on the surrounding streets; confirm what the venue offers and the current tariff before setting out. If you drive, check the Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone requirements on tfl.gov.uk, since parts of the area around Kensington fall inside or close to the charged zones, and verify your vehicle meets the emissions standard. Some Kensington hotels, including Hilton London Kensington and the Holiday Inn Express Park Royal, list on-site or nearby parking, but spaces are usually charged separately. For a two-day fair, arriving by Tube, bus or rail and taking a short cab back with a purchase is almost always the simpler option.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

    Month: October 2026

Temperature: Approx. 9-16 C across the days, with daytime highs usually around 14-16 C and cooler mornings and evenings near 9-10 C

Seasonality: Autumn is a changeable, often wet season in London, and mid-October brings a real chance of short showers and breezy days rather than settled sunshine. Rain usually arrives in passing bands, so a compact umbrella often matters more than a heavy coat.

Packing: Bring a packable waterproof jacket or umbrella, a light jumper for cool mornings in the hall, comfortable walking shoes for the Kensington streets and fair aisles, and a rigid folder or tube if you expect to buy works on paper. A tote or small backpack helps for catalogues, business cards and small purchases.

    FAQs & glossary

    Answers

    Frequently asked

    What is Parallax Art Fair?
Parallax Art Fair is a London selling fair where independent artists and makers exhibit and sell their own work directly to visitors. It takes place at Kensington Town Hall in west London, and because exhibitors show their own work rather than being represented by a gallery, the person at the stand is usually the artist who made the piece.
When and where is the 2026 edition?
The 2026 edition runs 18-19 October 2026 at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Confirm the daily opening and closing times on the organiser site before fixing your travel, since a two-day fair often uses different hours on each day.
Is Parallax Art Fair open to the public or trade-only?
It is a selling fair visited by the public as well as collectors, interior buyers and gift shoppers, not a trade-only order show. Check parallaxaf.com for the current visitor policy, any private view or preview session, and whether a separate trade or press slot is listed for 2026.
Do I need to buy a ticket in advance, and what does entry cost?
Entry arrangements and any ticket price are set by the organiser and published on parallaxaf.com. Check the site shortly before you travel rather than relying on older listings, and keep a screenshot of your confirmation in case of poor mobile signal at the venue.
Can I buy a piece on the day and take it home?
Yes - the direct-sale model means you agree the purchase with the artist at the stand. Ask about wrapping, whether the frame is included, and whether larger or fragile works need a courier or a van; small works on paper usually travel safely in a rigid folder.
How do I apply to exhibit at Parallax Art Fair?
Exhibiting artists book their own space, and the application route, available space types and costs are set by the organiser. Go to parallaxaf.com for the current exhibitor information rather than relying on third-party listings or social posts.
What kind of art will I actually see?
Expect original paintings and works on paper, signed and limited-edition prints, sculpture and three-dimensional pieces, textiles and wearable art, and jewellery and accessories. The mix is broad and hung densely, so plan to look carefully at small works as well as the large pieces that catch your eye first.
How do I get to Kensington Town Hall?
The nearest Underground station is High Street Kensington on the District and Circle lines, roughly a five to ten minute walk from the town hall. Several bus routes run along Kensington High Street, and contactless bank cards or an Oyster card are the standard ways to pay for London transport.
Is there parking at or near the venue?
Kensington is a dense central London district with limited, chargeable parking, so the Tube or a bus is usually the simpler option. If you do drive, check the venue's own guidance and the Transport for London pages for the Congestion Charge, the Ultra Low Emission Zone and current bay tariffs before setting out.
Is the venue accessible for wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility?
Access details, step-free routes and lift provision are venue and edition specific. Contact the organiser or Kensington Town Hall directly before travelling so you can confirm entrance arrangements, accessible toilets and any assistance available on the day.
Can I commission a piece from an exhibitor?
Many artists take commissions, and the fair is a good place to start one because you can see the work in person and discuss size and palette. Agree the price, deposit, lead time, delivery method and what happens if the finished piece does not suit the space, and get it in writing.
How should I look after a work once I get it home?
Ask the artist about framing, glazing and light exposure at the point of sale, since paper, textile and mixed-media works all have different requirements. As a rule, keep works out of direct sunlight and away from radiators and damp walls, and keep the receipt and certificate of authenticity together.

    Glossary

    1
    Artist-run art fair
A fair where individual artists and makers book their own wall or space and sell their own work, rather than being represented on a gallery stand. Parallax Art Fair is built around this model, which is why exhibitors can talk you through their own materials and process.
    2
    No-commission (direct) sale
A sale where the artist deals with the buyer directly and no gallery percentage sits between them. It usually means the displayed price is the artist's own figure; ask about payment method, receipt and any delivery charge at the point of sale.

The traditional gallery arrangement where a gallery holds an artist's work and pays the artist after a sale, minus commission. The direct-sale model at Parallax is the alternative to consignment, which is why you are speaking to the maker.
    4
    Salon hang
A dense, floor-to-ceiling arrangement of mixed-size works on one wall, rather than generous white space around each piece. Expect to look up and down at Parallax, and to find small works tucked between large ones.
    5
    Body of work
A group of pieces made together in one period, series or theme. Asking an exhibitor to show you a body of work rather than one picture is the fastest way to judge whether their practice fits your wall.
    6
    Original
A unique, hand-made piece such as a painting, drawing, collage or sculpture, as opposed to a reproduction or a print run. Originals normally carry a signature and often a date on the reverse.
    7
    Limited-edition print
A print produced in a capped run, with each sheet numbered (for example 12/50) and usually signed by the artist. Check the edition size and whether the plate or file has been retired before you assume scarcity.
    8
    Giclée print
A fine-art inkjet print made with pigment inks on archival paper or canvas. Before buying, ask about the paper weight, the ink type and the edition size, because quality and longevity vary widely between printers.
    9
    Mixed media
A work combining more than one material, such as paint with collage, thread, metal leaf or fabric. Mixed-media pieces can be more fragile, so ask how they should be framed and hung.
    10
    Certificate of authenticity
A document signed by the artist recording title, medium, dimensions and year of the work. It matters most for resale, insurance and estate purposes, so ask whether one is included in the price.
    11
    Provenance
The documented ownership history of a work. For a direct purchase from a living artist, the certificate plus your receipt and the exhibitor's details effectively become the provenance.
    12
    Reserved or marked sold
A work marked as sold or held for another buyer, often with a sticker on the label. If something you want is reserved, ask the artist whether a similar piece or a commission is possible.
    13
    Stand or wall space
The unit of exhibiting space an artist books at the fair. It determines how much work can be shown and where the exhibitor is placed - useful to know when you are planning a route around the hall.
    14
    Artist statement
A short text explaining an artist's materials, themes and process. Many exhibitors keep one at the stand; reading it first often saves a repetitive conversation and gets you to the specifics faster.
    15
    Textile and wearable art
Pieces made from fibre, fabric or thread, ranging from wall-hung textile works to scarves and garments. Check washing, light exposure and framing requirements before buying.
    16
    Unframed / framing-ready
A work sold without a frame, usually to keep the price down and the packing simple. Budget for professional framing after the fair, particularly for works on paper.
    17
    Commission
A new work made to order, often around an agreed size, palette or subject. Discuss deposit, lead time, delivery and what happens if the finished piece does not suit the space.
    18
    VAT and export paperwork
Tax and customs documentation that may apply when a buyer takes a work to another country. Ask the exhibitor or the organiser what paperwork is available before paying, and keep every receipt.
