    Impact

    A bigger and stronger platform

MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND has grown steadily from its launch in 2003 to become Southeast Asia's definitive healthcare trade platform, alternating biennially with MEDICAL FAIR ASIA in Singapore. The 2025 edition set new records with 14,474 attendees from 70 countries — a 44% increase over 2023 — and 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries, marking the largest and most diverse showcase in the event's 20-plus-year history. The show floor expanded to 20,000 sqm, accommodating 19 national and group pavilions and a record 89 hospital and healthcare visitor groups from across Thailand. The Business Matching platform facilitated more than 13,000 meeting requests and over 1,000 confirmed meetings onsite, underscoring the event's role as a procurement and partnership hub. With ASEAN's healthcare market projected to reach US$5 trillion by 2030 and Thailand's MedTech sector alone forecast to hit US$2.5 billion by 2028, the event has cemented its position as the gateway connecting global healthcare suppliers with ASEAN opportunities. Southeast Asia

    Why it matters

MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2027 sits at the intersection of Thailand's healthcare transformation and Southeast Asia's rapidly expanding medical device market. Thailand is the second-largest medical device market in ASEAN and imports over 70% of its medical devices, creating substantial opportunities for international manufacturers. The domestic medical device market is expected to grow by approximately 4–6% annually in 2026–2027, driven by an aging population, rising NCDs, and increased public-private investment. The ASEAN medical device market is projected to reach US$10 billion by 2027, growing at 12% annually. Thailand's government is actively pursuing a Medical Investment Hub strategy, targeting over 68 billion baht in new investment and positioning the country as a gateway to the ASEAN healthcare market. The event provides direct access to buyers, distributors, hospital executives, and government decision-makers from Thailand and across the region. With nearly 90% of exhibitors coming from international markets and over 40% of visitors travelling from outside Thailand, it is the definitive platform for medical device and healthcare companies seeking to expand across Southeast Asia. Thailand's Transition to a Super-Aged Society

Thailand is on track to become a super-aged society by 2031, with rising expenditure on elderly care and growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Demand for preventive care is rising, and treatment is increasingly shifting out of hospitals and into communities. The 2026–2027 domestic medical device market is expected to grow by an average of about 4% per year, fueled by increasing domestic demand and public-private investment. (

Southeast Asia Medical Device Market Growth

The Southeast Asia medical devices market is projected to reach $10 billion by 2027, growing at approximately 12% annually. Shift Toward Preventive Care and Community Health

Demand for preventive care is rising in Thailand, with treatment increasingly shifting out of hospitals and into communities. The rise of chronic diseases (NCDs, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer) is driving demand for diagnostic, patient monitoring, and treatment devices. The increasing adoption of preventive healthcare is boosting demand for screening and preventive healthcare products, creating opportunities in the diagnostics and preventive care segments. (

Exhibitors should verify with their local chamber of commerce that their ATA Carnet is issued in the correct format for Thailand's current system. Venue connectivity

BITEC is directly connected to Bangkok's BTS Skytrain network via an indoor skywalk equipped with travelators linking BTS Bang Na Station (Exit 1) directly to the venue's Welcome Hall — approximately a 10-minute sheltered walk. The BTS Sukhumvit Line provides fast access to the city centre (approximately 20–35 minutes to Siam/Sukhumvit), major hotels, shopping centres, and dining areas. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is 14 km away (25–45 min by taxi), and Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is 39 km away (40–60 min by taxi). Public bus routes serve the venue from both Sukhumvit Road (Entrance 3) and Bangna–Trad Road (Entrances 1 and 2). Designated taxi drop-off points are located in front of EH103, EH100, EH99, and EH98. Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

The Wai Greeting and Social Etiquette

The 'wai' is the traditional Thai gesture of greeting and respect, performed by pressing your palms together in a prayer-like position at chest level with a slight bow. When someone offers you a wai, it is considered polite to return it — though you are not expected to return the wai to children, waiters, doormen, guards, or street vendors. Handshakes are common in international business settings, but never squeeze hands hard. The Thai form of address is 'Khun' (used for Mr., Mrs., and Ms.) followed by the first name; last names are rarely used in direct address. (

    Business Cards and Meetings

Business cards are an indispensable part of making business contacts in Thailand. Bring plenty of your own. When receiving a card, accept it with your right hand, take a moment to look at it, and place it neatly in your wallet or card holder. When offering your card, present it to the person with the highest social status first. Never slide a business card across the table. Punctuality is important in business settings — arrive a few minutes early. Making appointments at least a month in advance is advisable. (

    Dress Code and Professional Appearance

For business meetings and the trade fair, dress code is business or work attire. Men should wear dark business suits or smart business attire; women should opt for conservative suits, blouses, or business dresses. Thai business culture places emphasis on respect, hierarchy, and maintaining composure — avoid displays of negative emotion or public criticism, as 'losing face' is a significant cultural concern. Showing patience and respect for status (age and authority) is deeply valued. (; https://legacy.export.gov/article?id=Thailand-Business-Travel

    Respectful Conduct and Local Customs

Remove shoes before entering a home or temple. Touching someone on the head or pointing your feet at anything is considered very rude. Thais hold the Royal Family in high esteem, and visitors are expected to show the same respect in speech and action. When giving or receiving gifts, use your right hand; never wrap gifts in black (associated with mourning). Red is considered auspicious. (

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: BKK

Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) is the primary gateway, located just 14 km from BITEC. Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) serves low-cost carriers and is 39 km away. Book flights arriving at BKK for the shortest transfer to the venue. The event runs 8–10 September 2027; consider arriving a day early to adjust and avoid peak Monday morning traffic. September is Bangkok's wettest month, so build buffer time into airport transfers. (; https://www.bitec.co.th/th/visitor-guide)

    Visa

Thailand offers multiple entry pathways for business visitors attending MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2027. Most travellers from eligible countries can enter visa-free for 30–60 days, though the 60-day exemption is being reduced to 30 days from 15 September 2026. Nationals of certain countries can obtain a Visa on Arrival for 2,000 THB. For longer stays or frequent business travel, a Non-Immigrant B visa is recommended. All non-Thai nationals must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 3 days before arrival. (; https://rome.thaiembassy.org/en/content/thailand-s-new-visa-measures-and-entry-regulations; https://budapest.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/visa-on-arrival-voa)

Processing: Varies by visa type. Visa on Arrival is processed on arrival. E-Visa applications typically take 1–2 weeks. Non-Immigrant B visa processing may take 1–4 weeks depending on the embassy and document completeness

All visa applications must be submitted online via the Thai E-Visa system at https://www.thaievisa.go.th/. Physical applications are no longer accepted at most Thai embassies. The TDAC must be completed online at https://tdac.immigration.go.th within 3 days before arrival and is free of charge. (; https://tdac.immigration.go.th/)
