Get around the city with these convenient transport options.

    train

Estimated costEUR 10-22 airport or regional rail single journey
Best forAmsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Amsterdam RAI station (NS)

Direct Sprinter services take roughly 8-10 minutes from Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI station, which sits beside the convention centre. This is the fastest and cheapest airport-to-venue route.

    metro

Estimated costApprox. EUR 3.40-4.20 single 1-hour GVB ticket via OVpay contactless; confirm 2026 tariff
Best forGVB metro 52 (North-South line) to RAI station

Metro 52 links Amsterdam Centraal and Zuid with RAI station, which is useful if your hotel is in the centre or the Zuidas business district rather than near the airport.

    tram

Estimated costApprox. EUR 3.40 per single ride, or approx. EUR 9-10 for a GVB 1-day ticket; confirm current price
Best forGVB tram 4 to RAI / Europaplein

Tram 4 runs from Amsterdam Centraal through De Pijp to the RAI area, useful for visitors staying in the canal ring or the museum quarter who prefer a surface route.

    taxi

Estimated costApprox. EUR 35-55 per taxi, 15-25 min depending on traffic; confirm meter or fixed fare before departure
Best forAmsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre

Use the official rank outside Schiphol arrivals rather than unmarked cars. Traffic on the A4 and A10 ring can add time on Monday mornings and during December weather.

    rideshare

Estimated costApprox. EUR 30-50 per ride from Schiphol, with surge pricing possible around fair evenings; confirm in-app quote
Best forBolt or Uber from Schiphol or the city centre to RAI Amsterdam

Ride-hailing is widely used in Amsterdam and Bolt publishes a dedicated Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI route. Set the pick-up point to the correct RAI hall entrance, since the complex is large.

    parking

Estimated costApprox. EUR 25-35 per day for event parking; confirm the current RAI tariff and pre-book on busy days
Best forRAI Amsterdam on-site car parks

On-site parking keeps you out of the city centre, where rates are higher and spaces scarce. Pre-book and note which car park serves your hall to avoid a long walk with purchases.

    bicycle

Estimated costApprox. EUR 10-15 per day for a rented city bike; confirm shop rates and deposit
Best forCity bike rental to RAI Amsterdam

Cycling is a realistic December option only with proper rain gear: RAI has cycle parking and the Amstel and De Pijp routes are short. Do not cycle in icy conditions.

    Weather

Amsterdam in mid-December is early winter: daytime highs typically around 6-8 C, nights near 1-3 C, with occasional frost or a brief snow shower. Rain and drizzle are frequent and often wind-driven, skies stay overcast for long stretches, and daylight is short with sunset before 17:00. These are climatological averages, not a forecast for 10-14 December 2026 - check the KNMI or a standard weather app in the week before travel and pack a waterproof layer plus warm shoes for the walk from RAI station.

    Plan for the climate

    Check temperatures and pack accordingly

    Venue connectivity

The Netherlands has strong 4G and 5G coverage across Amsterdam, including the Zuidas and RAI district. EU and EEA SIM cards roam at domestic rates; visitors from outside the EU should check their home operator's roaming pack or pick up a Dutch prepaid eSIM from KPN, VodafoneZiggo or Odido at Schiphol. RAI Amsterdam offers venue Wi-Fi, but density drops in crowded halls during peak hours, so download your ticket QR code, the mastersexpo.com schedule and any exhibitor floorplan before you enter. Power is 230 V with Type C or F sockets, so UK and US travellers need an adapter.

    Ride-hailing

    Taxis

    Public transit

    Car rentals

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Direct communication

Dutch business culture is informal and direct: first names are normal, and feedback is delivered plainly rather than softened. Do not read brevity as rudeness, and match it with a clear agenda when you approach a stand.

    Cards, not cash

Amsterdam runs on contactless card and phone payments, from museum desks to stand purchases and GVB gates. Keep a small amount of euro cash for edge cases, but assume OVpay or a bank card will be the default.

    Tipping and service

Service is included in Dutch restaurant bills; rounding up or leaving roughly 5-10 percent is a normal gesture for good service. Taxi drivers appreciate rounding up rather than a percentage calculation.

    Bicycles have priority

Cycle lanes are part of the road network and cyclists keep their pace. Look both ways before crossing a lane, never stand in it to check your phone, and avoid renting a bike in icy December conditions.

    Short December days

Sunset comes before 17:00 during the fair, so schedule dealer appointments and viewing rooms earlier than you would in summer and plan evening activities indoors. Museum visits and canal-ring dinners work well after the halls close.

    Sinterklaas and Christmas timing

The 5 December Sinterklaas celebration and the run-up to Christmas make mid-December a busy social period in Amsterdam. Restaurant tables and hotel rooms near the RAI tighten, so book both before you travel.

    Dress and evening events

Smart casual covers the daytime halls; the MASTERS Opening evening and private previews call for smart business dress or cocktail attire. December weather means a warm coat and shoes that handle wet pavements.

    Coffee, borrel and meetings

Dutch meetings often close with a 'borrel', an informal drinks moment at the end of the day. Accepting an invitation is a normal way to continue a conversation that started on the stand.

    Practical guides

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: AMS

Google Flights searches run for the 10-14 December 2026 window confirmed the return-date pairing for the fair dates. The cheapest fares are typically booked three to six months before departure, so lock long-haul segments in mid-2026. Economy fares were displayed in EUR; routing options include nonstop KLM services from London, New York, Tokyo and Singapore and one-stop alternatives via Muscat, Istanbul, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Seoul, Zurich and Bangkok. Air traffic disruption notices appeared on some searches, so keep a buffer before the opening day and check Schiphol's departure and arrival boards 24 hours before flying.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). Allow road or rail time to Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre; on-site parking is usually available at major exhibition venues.

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre: RAI / Europaboulevard: nhow Amsterdam RAI; De Pijp / Amstel: Hotel Okura Amsterdam; Europaboulevard: Novotel Amsterdam City.

Ride-hail: Bolt and Uber both operate in Amsterdam, and Bolt publishes a dedicated Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam RAI route. Expect roughly EUR 30-50 from Schiphol before surge pricing, and more from the canal ring in evening peak. Set your pick-up and drop-off to the correct RAI hall entrance because the complex is large and the wrong side adds a long walk. Around fair closing times, surge pricing is likely, so consider metro 52 or tram 4 for the return trip.

Public transit: RAI Amsterdam is served by its own transport hub: NS trains stop at Amsterdam RAI station, GVB metro 52 connects Centraal and Zuid with the RAI area, and tram 4 runs from the centre through De Pijp. Pay by contactless OVpay on the gate or reader; a single GVB ride is roughly EUR 3.40 to 4.20 and a day ticket costs more, so check the GVB journey planner for your hotel route. From Schiphol, the direct train to Amsterdam RAI station takes about 8-10 minutes. Confirm timetables and any service works before travelling.

Parking: RAI Amsterdam has on-site car parks serving the halls, which is the practical choice if you drive to the fair. Expect roughly EUR 25-35 per day for event parking, with pre-booking advised on busy days and a higher rate if you park in the city centre instead. Note which car park serves your hall to avoid a long walk with purchases, and confirm the current tariff and access route on the RAI or organiser site before departure.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

Month: December 2026 - early winter in Amsterdam, with short daylight and a high chance of wet, windy days during the 10-14 December fair week.

Temperature: Approx. 1-8 C daytime, with nights often around 0-3 C and occasional frost; climatological averages rather than a forecast, so confirm before travel.

Seasonality: December is one of Amsterdam's wetter, windier months: expect frequent light rain or drizzle, long overcast spells and sunset before 17:00. Snow is possible but usually light and short-lived; ice on pavements can appear during cold snaps.

Packing: Pack a waterproof outer layer with a hood, warm mid-layers and knitwear, and shoes with grip for wet or icy pavements. Add an umbrella, gloves and a scarf for the walk from RAI station, plus one smart outfit for the MASTERS Opening evening or private previews. Bring a universal adapter for 230 V Type C/F sockets and a power bank, since you will rely on your phone for tickets, OVpay and lead capture.

    Plan your trip

    Planning

Best day to visit: Day 2 (mid-show)

Mid-show days at Masters Expo usually combine full exhibitor attendance with scheduled B2B meetings, before early pack-down on the final day.

    T-14

Book your ticket tier on mastersexpo.com - 'The Days' for a single day or 'Passe Partout' for all event days - and note the current price before paying.

    T-14

Reserve a hotel either within walking distance of RAI or on GVB metro 52 / tram 4; mid-December is high season for Amsterdam Christmas bookings.

    T-12

Set up OVpay contactless on your bank card or phone, or buy an NS ticket for the Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI train leg.

    T-10

Check passport validity and Schengen entry rules, and carry a printed hotel confirmation plus your ticket for border and check-in questions.

    T-10

Set a budget for art, watches, furniture or gifting, and ask exhibitors about VAT refund forms if you are exporting purchases outside the EU.

    T-7

Download your ticket QR code and the mastersexpo.com schedule to your phone; mobile signal drops in packed halls at peak times.

    T-7

Reserve dinner tables for the evenings of 10-14 December, since central Amsterdam fills with Christmas parties during the fair week.

    T-5

Check the December forecast and pack a waterproof coat, warm layers and shoes suited to wet pavements.

    T-3

If you drive, pre-book on-site parking at RAI and confirm the day rate and hall access route.

    T-2

Note the opening hours for your specific ticket day and check last-entry times, which are often earlier than hall closing.

    T-1

Plan the airport transfer with a 30-minute buffer and confirm the NS or GVB route to RAI station.

    Day 0

Arrive at RAI Amsterdam with e-ticket, photo ID and a charged phone, and allow extra time for bag checks at the entrance.

    FAQs & glossary

    Answers

    Frequently asked

When and where does MASTERS EXPO 2026 take place?
The 2026 edition runs from 10 to 14 December 2026 at RAI Amsterdam. Five days in December is a long run for a luxury lifestyle fair, so check the daily opening hours and the programme for each day on mastersexpo.com/schedule before you fix travel dates.
Which MASTERS EXPO ticket should I buy?
The current listing shows three tiers: 'The Days' for access on selected days, 'Passe Partout' for access on all event days, and 'MASTERS Opening - The Birthday Party' for the opening event. Prices as currently listed are about EUR 50, EUR 495 and EUR 195 respectively. Confirm the live tiers, prices and what each includes on mastersexpo.com before paying, since organisers revise ticket products between editions.
Is MASTERS EXPO trade-only or open to private visitors?
It is a ticketed luxury lifestyle event rather than a closed trade fair, so private visitors and professional buyers share the halls. If you are visiting to source for a business, the quieter opening hours are usually better for detailed conversations with exhibitors than the peak weekend hours.
How do I get from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to RAI Amsterdam?
Take the NS train from Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI station, a short ride of roughly 8 to 10 minutes, then walk to the RAI entrance. A single second-class ticket is roughly EUR 3 to 6 with OVpay contactless. Alternatively GVB metro 52 connects the city to RAI station, and a taxi from the Schiphol rank to the venue is roughly EUR 35 to 55 depending on traffic. Confirm live fares and times before travelling.
Which metro or tram stops at RAI Amsterdam?
GVB metro 52 (the North-South line) and tram 4 both serve the RAI area, with RAI station also served by NS trains from Schiphol and other Dutch cities. A single GVB ride paid by contactless OVpay is roughly EUR 3.40 to 4.20, and day tickets cost more. Check the GVB journey planner for the exact stop closest to your hall entrance.
Can I park at RAI Amsterdam and what does it cost?
RAI Amsterdam has on-site car parks serving the halls. Expect roughly EUR 25 to 35 per day for event parking, with pre-booking advisable on busy days. City-centre parking is scarce and more expensive, so if you drive, book a RAI space and confirm the current tariff and hall access route on the venue site.
What should I wear to MASTERS EXPO?
Smart casual is the safe default for the daytime halls, with smart business dress for the opening evening and any private previews. December in Amsterdam is cold and often wet, so plan a warm coat you can check in and shoes that survive wet pavements on the walk from RAI station.
Can I buy the products displayed at the fair?
Many luxury and lifestyle exhibitors sell on the stand or take orders for made-to-measure and bespoke items with a deposit. For high-value pieces such as watches, art or jewellery, expect a conversation about allocation, lead time and export paperwork rather than an off-the-shelf purchase. Ask each exhibitor what is immediately available.
Do I need cash in Amsterdam?
Dutch retail and hospitality are heavily card-based, and contactless OVpay is the standard way to pay for GVB transport. Carry a small amount of euro cash for the rare counter that does not take cards, but plan to pay for tickets, hotels, taxis and most stand purchases by card or phone.
What is the weather like in Amsterdam during the fair?
December is early winter: daytime temperatures typically sit around 1 to 8 C, nights hover near freezing, and rain or drizzle is frequent with strong wind off the canals. Daylight is short, with sunset before 17:00, so late-afternoon hall exits feel like night. Check the forecast in the week before travel.
Can non-EU visitors claim a VAT refund on purchases?
Dutch VAT refunds for non-EU residents generally require a minimum purchase value in a single shop, a tax-free form from the retailer and a stamped export declaration before leaving the EU, usually processed at Schiphol. Confirm the current threshold and procedure with the retailer at the point of sale rather than after the fair.
Are guests, children or re-entry covered by the ticket?
Ticket terms vary by tier and by day, so check guest, child and re-entry policies on mastersexpo.com before booking. If you plan to return on a second day to close a purchase, the 'Passe Partout' tier is the one designed for repeat access.

    Glossary

    1
    Passe Partout
The all-days ticket tier listed for MASTERS EXPO. It is the option to choose when you want to return on more than one of the 10-14 December 2026 event days, for example to bring a client back to a stand or to attend twice with different priorities.
    2
    The Days ticket
The single-day tier listed for the fair, giving access on selected days only. Check which dates each day ticket covers on mastersexpo.com before booking, because the five-day run is not necessarily uniform.
    3
    MASTERS Opening
The opening-evening ticket tier listed for the show. Opening nights at luxury fairs are social as much as commercial, with Champagne service and a different rhythm from the daytime halls.
    4
    High jewellery
Jewellery built around one-off stones and hand-worked settings, usually produced in very small numbers or as a single piece. At a fair, high jewellery is normally shown by appointment from a locked case rather than from open display.
    5
    Complication
A watch function beyond simple hours and minutes, such as a chronograph, perpetual calendar, moon phase or tourbillon. Complications drive much of the price ladder at watch stands and are the usual conversation starter with a dealer.
    6
    Allocation
A dealer's decision to reserve a scarce piece for a specific client rather than sell it from stock. Allocation lists are why collectors visit watch and jewellery stands in person at fairs, to build the relationship that precedes the offer.
    7
    Collectible design
Furniture, lighting and objects made in limited editions or as unique pieces, valued for authorship and provenance as much as function. It sits between art and interiors and is a core category at high-end lifestyle fairs.
    8
    Art advisory
An intermediary service that helps buyers select, negotiate and place artworks, often for a fee or retainer. Advisers walk fairs like this one to preview editions before recommending them to private clients.
    9
    Maison
The French term for a luxury house, used in the sector to signal a brand with its own atelier, heritage and craft identity rather than a licensed label. Exhibitors often present themselves as a maison when craft provenance is the sales argument.
    10
    Bespoke and made-to-measure
Goods produced to a client's measurements or specification, from tailoring to cabinetry. Expect lead times measured in weeks or months, with a deposit taken at the fair and final fitting later.

    Concept store
A curated retailer that mixes fashion, design, beauty and objects around an editorial point of view rather than a single brand. Concept-store buyers visit fairs to find labels and pieces that larger department stores do not carry.
