Southeast Asia, with global reach to 80+ countries across OIC, ASEAN, East Asia, Middle East, Europe, and Americas

    Why it matters

MIHAS sits at the intersection of two powerful forces: the exponential growth of the global halal economy, projected to exceed USD 6 trillion by 2034, and Malaysia's role as the world's top-ranked halal industry and Islamic banking leader. As Malaysia holds the top position in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator for 11 consecutive years, with JAKIM certification recognised in nearly 50 countries, MIHAS serves as the primary gateway for exporters to access the fast-growing ASEAN and OIC markets—home to over 48% of the global halal food market. The 2026 edition introduces a year-round digital Knowledge Hub with AI-curated content, expanding the event's value beyond the four show days. Combined with MATRADE's International Sourcing Programme (INSP)—which generated RM3.63 billion in sales in 2025—and the debut of WiEX @MIHAS 2026, this event is not just a trade show but a strategic capability-building and networking engine for businesses navigating evolving regulations, digital traceability demands, and shifting consumer preferences for ethical, transparent halal products.

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Business Etiquette

Malaysians value face-to-face meetings and relationship-building. Punctuality is appreciated, though Malaysian counterparts may arrive 10-30 minutes late without offence; remain patient and courteous. Avoid public criticism or confrontation to prevent 'losing face'. Use indirect communication and tactful phrasing. Respect hierarchy: greet the most senior person first. Business cards are important; receive and study them with both hands before placing them carefully.

    Dress Code

Dress modestly and conservatively. Men: long-sleeved shirt, tie, and trousers (jacket optional except for high-level meetings). Women: light short-sleeved dresses, blouses with knee-length skirts or trousers; avoid sleeveless, shorts, or revealing attire. Light fabrics are comfortable in the humid climate.

    Gift-Giving

Gift-giving is not expected on first meetings. If giving a gift, avoid alcohol, pork, or dog-related items (for Muslims); white, black, or blue wrapping (funeral colours); and knives/scissors (sever relationships). For Malay hosts, avoid yellow wrapping (royal colour). For Chinese, avoid flowers (for the sick/funerals). For Indians, avoid leather/cow products and use bright wrapping colours.

    Dining & Social

When dining, follow the host's lead. For Malay meals, use the right hand only or a spoon and fork (fork pushes food onto spoon). Avoid alcohol if dining with Muslims. Wait for the host to invite you to start eating. Leaving a little food on your plate is polite to indicate you are satisfied. Business lunches are common; avoid heavy business discussion until the meal ends. Spouses are rarely included in business entertaining.

    Public Behaviour

Remove shoes before entering a mosque or a Malaysian home. Avoid pointing with your index finger; use a thumb or full hand. The Malaysian smile can indicate agreement, acknowledgement, or politeness, so read context carefully. Silence during meetings is acceptable; it allows for reflection. Avoid loud outbursts, broad gestures, or showing anger in public.

    Visa

Visa requirements depend on nationality. China and India nationals are visa-exempt for up to 30 days (business, tourism, social) until 31 Dec 2026. Nationals of visa-required countries must apply for eVISA (Single Entry) via the online portal. Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) is restricted to 31 nationalities and four specific purposes (Business, Fly & Cruise, Medical, Wedding Tourism) from 1 September 2026. For business visitors to MIHAS, apply under the 'business' purpose for MEV if eligible, or use eVISA for single-entry business/tourism. All travellers must have passport validity of at least 6 months, complete Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) 3 days before arrival, and show proof of accommodation and return/onward ticket.

    Estimated cost: Not yet confirmed

Processing: eVISA processing is subject to Immigration assessment; no fixed timeline. MEV subject to Immigration Attaché assessment.

eVISA processing fee is RM105.00 + service charges (approx. USD 24). Ensure eVISA details match passport exactly; errors may invalidate entry. If applying for MEV for business, ensure the invitation letter from the Malaysian company or event organiser clearly states 'business' purpose.

Limited meeting slots for INSP buyer programme – apply early

Potential travel disruptions or visa processing delays

High demand for hotels – book well in advance

Halal manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, cosmetics/pharma producers, logistics firms, and certification bodies ready to showcase to a global buyer audience.

    Min. budget
