Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

    North America

    Why it matters

The ISNA Convention is North America's largest and most established annual gathering of Muslims, making it a critical bellwether for the Muslim American community's priorities, concerns, and commercial vitality. For buyers and exhibitors, it offers unparalleled access to a diverse, engaged, and growing demographic—spanning families, professionals, youth, and community leaders—with significant purchasing power and a strong appetite for halal products, Islamic educational materials, modest fashion, and community services. The 2026 edition is particularly significant as it returns to Detroit after a dozen years, tapping into one of the nation's oldest and most diverse Muslim populations. The convention's strategic framing of faith as a public strategy for justice and bridge-building also positions it as a key platform for civic engagement, interfaith dialogue, and corporate social responsibility, making it a must-attend for organizations seeking to connect with Muslim Americans in a meaningful way.

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

    Muslim Political and Civic Engagement

The 2026 convention occurs amid rising Muslim American political participation, with more Muslim candidates running for office, yet also heightened anxiety due to increased hateful targeting of Muslim communities, as seen in recent protests in Dearborn.

    Source
    02

    Community Resilience and Interfaith Bridge-Building

ISNA positions the convention as a strategic platform to 'build bridges with people of other faiths' and counter misinformation. The theme 'Persevere, Interconnect, Be God Conscious, Strengthen Each Other for True Prosperity' frames taqwa (God awareness) not just as personal piety but as a public strategy for unity and justice.

    Source
    03

Intersection of Faith and Social Justice

Convention programming explicitly addresses domestic turmoil and international fracture, including the fallout from the Epstein Files, erosion of due process, and moral decay in public life, framing these through an Islamic ethical lens. Panels such as 'Cultivating God Awareness in a Turmoiled America' feature elected officials like Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.

    Source
    04

Growing Market for Halal and Islamic Lifestyle Products

The convention bazaar features 500+ booths selling books, educational materials, clothing, jewelry, Islamic gifts, honey, halal food, and cultural items popular in South Asian communities. The bazaar is a key attraction for both attendees and vendors, reflecting the expanding Muslim-focused consumer market in North America

    Source
    05

    Strategic Thematic Programming

ISNA's Convention Program Committee engages nearly 40 leaders in a year-long process to shape the convention theme, ensuring it is 'not a slogan or a symbol, but a strategic expression of ISNA's mission' to align vision and priorities.

    Detroit's Diverse Muslim Community

Metro Detroit is home to one of the oldest and most diverse Muslim populations in the United States, with a significant and balanced mix of Sunni and Shiite communities. The city's strong local Muslim council and community interest helped bring the convention back to Detroit after a dozen years. Attendees can expect a welcoming environment with numerous halal dining options, mosques, and Islamic cultural institutions throughout the area

    Interfaith and Community Engagement

The convention places a strong emphasis on interfaith dialogue and community bridge-building. Several sessions are designed to foster understanding between Muslims and people of other faiths, and the convention is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to engage in these dialogues and to take advantage of the opportunity to correct misconceptions about Islam and Muslim Americans

    Family-Friendly and Inclusive Atmosphere

The ISNA Convention is designed to be a family-friendly event with activities for all ages, including youth programs, sports activities, a science fair, robotics, and a basketball tournament. The convention also offers matrimonial events to help attendees find spouses. New for 2026, the convention has partnered with MUHSEN to provide disability accommodations, including respite care, ASL interpretation, and volunteer assistance, making the event more inclusive for all

    Halal and Islamic Lifestyle Marketplace

The convention bazaar is a major cultural and commercial hub, featuring over 500 booths selling a wide range of products popular in South Asian and Muslim communities, including books, educational materials, clothing, jewelry, Islamic gifts, honey, halal food, and halal cosmetics. This marketplace offers attendees a unique opportunity to shop for authentic Islamic and culturally relevant goods while supporting Muslim-owned businesses
