By 2030, the region could reach 180 GWp, with Wood Mackenzie forecasting regional capacity surpassing 100 GW by 2029 – an 800% increase within a decade. The UAE's Energy Strategy 2050 and Saudi Arabia's accelerated National Renewable Energy Program are setting the tone for large-scale adoption.

Grid flexibility and energy management transformation

Cooling-driven electricity peaks and the growing share of solar power are reshaping Middle East energy management toward flexible, dispatchable power systems. Energy storage and smart grid solutions are critical enablers, with grid connection bottlenecks and transmission capacity constraints delaying project completion in fast-growing markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The focus on flexibility is driving demand for advanced grid infrastructure and energy management technologies.

E-mobility as part of energy diversification

GCC countries are leading EV adoption with ambitious targets. The UAE aims for at least 30% of all new vehicles on the road to be EVs by 2030. UAE already achieved 6% EV sales penetration in 2024, with Dubai reporting about 1,270 charging points. EV sales in GCC are forecast to grow at 5.1% CAGR through 2029. Fleet electrification is a key driver, though challenges include charging infrastructure development and grid integration.

MENA solar capacity to triple by end of 2026

Overall, installed solar capacity across the MENA region will reach 31 GW by the end of 2026, almost tripling from about 10.5 GW installed at the end of 2021. This rapid growth is driven by declining costs, competitive auctions, and ambitious policy targets, positioning the region as one of the fastest-growing solar markets globally.
