New York City / Tri-State (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut)

    Why it matters

InstallerSHOW New York 2027 sits at the intersection of regulatory mandate, market growth, and technology transition in the US HVACR and plumbing sector. New York City's Local Law 97 is forcing building owners and project teams to modernise HVAC systems, electrify heating, and deploy controls and building-performance technologies at scale — with penalties of $268 per metric ton of CO2 over the limit and stricter caps coming in 2030. At the same time, heat pump shipments are growing nearly 10% annually while gas furnace shipments decline, signalling a durable shift in how buildings are heated and cooled. The co-location with. New York Build Expo puts HVACR and plumbing brands alongside the architects, engineers, developers and general contractors who specify and influence building systems, creating a concentrated marketplace for the technology behind better-performing buildings. For contractors, the show offers free access to practical training, technical Q&A and live tool demonstrations at a time when the workforce pipeline is only beginning to recover and system complexity is increasing. For manufacturers and suppliers, New York represents a high-value market where regulation and incentives are actively pulling forward investment in electrification, controls, water efficiency and building-performance solutions, with total construction spending forecast to rebound to $75 billion in 2027

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Heat pump electrification accelerates despite policy uncertainty

Heat pump shipments climbed 9.8% in March 2026, continuing a years-long trend as refrigerant transitions and regulations reshape the HVAC industry. Gas furnace shipments dropped 15.3% over the same period. Dual-fuel systems are gaining prominence, offering flexible heating solutions that optimize energy use based on outdoor conditions. Cold-climate heat pump models, including inverter and VRF-based technology, are expanding into multi-family applications, opening new possibilities in dense urban markets like. New York

    02

NYC Local Law 97 enforcement drives HVAC modernization demand

Enforcement of New York City's Local Law 97 is fully underway in 2026. Buildings over 25,000 square feet must meet carbon emission intensity limits or face annual penalties of $268 per metric ton of CO2 over the limit. Key compliance pathways include energy efficiency upgrades (insulation, windows, LED lighting, HVAC modernization), electrification (replacing fossil fuel heating with heat pumps), renewable energy, and prescriptive measures. Most buildings above 25,000 sq ft fall under LL97, with stricter limits taking effect in 2030, keeping energy efficiency and building-system upgrades high on the agenda

    Source
    03

AI, connectivity and smart systems become baseline expectations

Intelligence is no longer a value-add on the HVACR show floor — it is becoming the baseline expectation. From pumps and controls to hybrid heating systems, manufacturers are embedding connectivity, diagnostics and system-level optimization into their products. Smart digital platforms like Trane Cloud and Samsung SmartThings Pro are transforming building management through AI, remote diagnostics and real-time monitoring. The growth of AI itself is driving new demand for cooling the facilities that power it, particularly data centers, placing hydronics, pumping, controls and system-level efficiency squarely in the spotlight

    Source
    04

Refrigerant transition reshapes equipment specification and supply

Short-term supply frictions tied to the January 2025 refrigerant deadline are likely to ease by 2027, setting a clearer runway for premium electrification solutions. Manufacturers are advancing refrigeration technologies with low-GWP refrigerants and innovative units designed for compliance, efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The AIM Act requires a 50% reduction in HFC supplies by 2029 and a 70% reduction by 2030, creating specification and servicing complexity that contractors must navigate

    Source
    05

NYC construction spending rebounds to $75 billion in 2027

Total construction spending in New York City is forecast to reach $219 billion from 2025 through 2027 in inflation-adjusted dollars. Annual spending will reach $74 billion in 2025, dip slightly to $69 billion in 2026, then rebound to $75 billion in 2027. Residential construction spending is forecast to lead the way, and specialty trades employment is projected to climb to 140,000 jobs in 2026 and 2027. Office development spending is nearly doubling year-over-year

Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries may travel to the United States for business or tourism for up to 90 days without a visa, but must obtain an approved ESTA before departure. As of 2026, 42 countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Brunei, Taiwan, Chile, Israel, and Qatar. All VWP travelers must hold a valid e-passport with a biometric chip. Travelers who have visited Cuba on or after January 12, 2021, are generally not eligible for ESTA and must apply for a visa

The United States is not a signatory to the ATA Convention's Exhibitions and Fairs classification. However, in practice, goods for trade shows and exhibitions are commonly imported into the US under an ATA Carnet by classifying them as 'Commercial Samples' (for goods to be exhibited) or 'Professional Equipment' (for goods used at the fair, such as booths). The carnet must cover only goods intended for re-export; consumable or disposable items, including samples intended to be given away at the show, are not allowed under an ATA Carnet. As an alternative, exhibitors may use a Temporary Importation Under Bond (TIB) for shipments valued over $2,500. CBP recommends carrying official documentation confirming the trade show dates and location, proof of exhibitor status, documentation indicating the value of items, marking items 'Not for Sale,' and obtaining the correct HTSUS code

Cloud cover remains around 51% throughout the month

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

Trade show conversations happen in the aisle

On US trade show floors, many conversations take place in the aisle beside your booth rather than inside the stand footprint. The organiser advises exhibitors to market their company before the event so meetings can be set in advance. While there may be less hospitality on stands than is common in the UK, attendees are in New York City where there are plenty of food options and hotels in the neighbouring Hudson Yards area

US trade show stand formats differ from Europe

Exhibiting in the United States differs from the UK and Europe. Stands tend to range from basic pipe-and-drape packages to full elaborate builds, shipping your stand into the venue is usually charged by weight as your product is delivered to your booth, and most venues are affiliated with a local union so union labour operates in the venue. The InstallerSHOW operations team can help exhibitors navigate shipping and venue requirements

Hudson Yards is the venue's immediate neighbourhood

InstallerSHOW New York takes place in Hall 3B, Level 3 of the Javits Center. The area of Hudson Yards is full of restaurants, shopping, hotels and everything. New York City offers. The venue looks out over the Hudson River, and the Javits Center campus is a short walk from the 7 train at 34th Street-Hudson Yards station

    Tipping and payment culture

Tipping is customary in New York City for restaurant service (typically 18–20%), bartenders ($1–$2 per drink) and taxi drivers (15–20%). Most cafes, shops and taxis accept credit cards and mobile payments, though carrying a small amount of cash is useful for tipping and small vendors. ATMs are widely available throughout Manhattan

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

Destination: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

March is a shoulder season for New York City tourism, but convention dates can push hotel and flight prices higher. Book flights and accommodation as early as possible, especially if attending the full two-day show. JFK, LGA and EWR all offer direct connections from major domestic and international hubs. The Javits Center is easiest to reach from LGA by taxi and from EWR via NJ Transit to Penn Station

    Visa

Whether a visa is required depends on nationality. Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries can travel for business for up to 90 days with an approved ESTA instead of a visa. Citizens of all other countries generally require a B-1 business visitor visa to attend a trade show in the United States. Business visitors may attend trade shows, conferences, and meetings, negotiate contracts, and consult with business associates, provided they remain employed and paid by a foreign employer

    Estimated cost: Not yet confirmed

Processing: ESTA: usually minutes, allow up to 72 hours. B-1 visa: varies by embassy or consulate; can exceed 12 months at some posts

ESTA applications should be submitted at least 72 hours before departure. A valid ESTA does not guarantee admission; final entry is determined by US Customs and Border Protection at the port of entry. The B-1 visa application requires an interview at a US embassy or consulate in most cases. A $750 expedited appointment pilot program operates at select embassies through December 31, 2026, for applicants who need an earlier interview. Visa invitation letters are not required for a B-1 visa application but can be used as supporting documentation. InstallerSHOW New York does not publish a visa invitation letter service on its official site
