    Impact

    A bigger and stronger platform

World Workplace 2025 marked a significant milestone as the 30th annual edition of IFMA's flagship event, coinciding with the association's 45th anniversary. Nearly 4,000 facility management professionals from across the globe gathered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for three days of education, networking, and product discovery. The conference featured headline keynotes from Daymond John, FUBU founder and Shark Tank investor, and David Eagleman, host of the number-one science podcast Inner Cosmos. Educational sessions covered artificial intelligence, building resilience, winning over the C-suite, soft skills for facility managers, decarbonization, the circular economy, and worktech solutions. The event also honored outstanding individuals advancing the FM profession, including the induction of Laurie Gilmer, Benjamin Goudy, and Frank Ngoh as IFMA Fellows — the association's highest honor. The Expo Hall featured leading product innovations ranging from space management software, AI, furniture, plumbing, and roofing, with live podcast tapings and additional educational sessions on the show floor

    Audience quality

    High-value decision-makers

World Workplace 2025 attracted nearly 4,000 facility management professionals from across the globe, representing organizations ranging from small municipalities managing a handful of sites to some of the world's largest corporations overseeing thousands of locations. Attendees included decision-makers with significant purchasing influence, as well as professionals from related fields including IT, project management, HR, engineering, security, real estate, sustainability, and energy. The event drew first-time attendees and long-time members alike, with a strong international presence. A trade analysis by Vendelux ranked IFMA World Workplace 2025 as the second top-performing Q3 2025 event for ROI and engagement. The 2019 edition attracted attendees from 17 countries

    Exhibitor outcomes

    Real business growth

Exhibitors at World Workplace 2025 reported strong returns. The Furniture X-Change (TFX), exhibiting for the second year, stated they were thrilled with the experience, especially the opportunity to network and connect in person with both existing clients and many new prospects, engaging with FMs representing hundreds of organizations. Vendelux ranked IFMA World Workplace 2025 as the second top-performing Q3 2025 event for ROI. The official 2026 prospectus states that 0% of World Workplace attendees rate the expo as the most important reason for attending, highlighting the expo's central role in the event experience. IFMA's official ROI analysis notes that the average ROI for business events ranges between 25-34%, with 44% of marketers reporting a 3:1 ROI or higher from event marketing

    Intelligence

    Market context

Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

Global — IFMA's World Workplace serves the worldwide facility management profession, with strongest attendance from North America and growing participation from Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America. The 2026 edition is hosted in Anaheim, California, positioning it as the flagship North American gathering for the global FM industry

    Why it matters

IFMA's World Workplace 2026 matters because it is the single largest annual gathering of facility management decision-makers in the world, arriving at a pivotal moment for the profession. The global FM market is growing at nearly 5% annually toward USD 2.02 trillion by 2031, but the industry faces structural challenges: a retirement wave with 40% of FMs leaving within a decade, 17-week hiring timelines, and the rapid mainstreaming of AI into daily operations. Attendees collectively direct hundreds of billions in annual spend, and the event's redesigned education programme directly addresses the trends shaping procurement decisions — AI implementation, outcome-based contracting, circular economy practices, and workplace experience strategy. For solution providers, World Workplace is where FM buyers come to evaluate and shortlist vendors. For FM professionals, it is where the profession's future direction is debated, defined, and operationalised

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

AI Moves from Pilot to Daily Practice in Facility Management

72% of facility managers now say AI already impacts their work daily, and 92% are interested in adopting additional AI tools. The conversation has shifted from experimentation to practical implementation — predictive maintenance, automated work-order generation, and data-driven decision support are becoming standard expectations rather than future ambitions. IFMA's 2026 education programme reflects this with dedicated tracks on Connected Buildings and Digital Futures: Facility Fusion

    Source
    02

Workforce Succession and Talent Shortage Reach Critical Levels

Nearly 40% of facility managers expect to retire within the next 10 years, while it now takes employers an average of 17 weeks to fill an FM vacancy — a significant increase from previous years. The combination of strong demand and limited talent availability is creating growing pressure across the industry. Mentoring has emerged as a key retention and knowledge-transfer tool, with more than one-third of early-career FMs reporting they are currently being mentored

    Source
    03

Outcome-Based FM Contracts Replace Activity Measurement

The industry is shifting from measuring activity to measuring results. Outcome-based contracts are growing, focusing on reliability, hygiene standards, and user satisfaction rather than hours worked. This transition reflects a wider push across FM to demonstrate value, not volume. Providers that blend technology platforms with outcome-based models are capturing premium contracts as clients seek transparent cost control and measurable efficiency

    Source
    04

Circular Economy and ESG Become Standard FM Expectations

Sustainability and ESG goals have become standard expectations, with FM teams driving energy optimisation, carbon reduction, and resource-efficient operations. In Northern Europe, the circular economy is more than a concept — it's becoming standard practice, driven by mature markets and limited land availability. In Latin America and Africa, FM leaders are building sustainability mindsets from the ground up, rooted in community, learning, and resilience. IFMA's 2026 research agenda includes FM Beyond Walls, exploring the social and environmental impact of FM beyond the facility itself

    Source
    05

Facility Management Repositions as a Strategic Lever, Not a Cost Centre

The global facility management market is estimated at USD 1.59 trillion in 2026, growing to USD 2.02 trillion by 2031 at a 4.85% CAGR. Growth momentum reflects the repositioning of facility management from a support cost to a strategic lever for operational resilience, digital integration, and employee productivity. 35% of enterprises boosted FM budgets in 2024 to curb operational complexity, and outsourcing appetite continues to rise as corporations channel capital toward core innovation

Exhibitors bringing booth materials or display items for a trade show cannot use an ATA Carnet for those goods and must use alternative temporary importation procedures such as a Temporary Importation Bond (TIB). The ATA Carnet is valid for one year from issuance and allows unlimited exits and re-entries in participating countries. Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Beyond Disneyland: Anaheim's Cultural Scene

While Anaheim is globally known for Disneyland Resort, the city has a thriving multicultural community. The Anaheim Packing District, housed in a historic 1919 Sunkist orange packing facility, is a downtown hub for eating and drinking with diverse eateries and bars. Little Saigon in nearby Westminster and Garden Grove is home to the largest Vietnamese population outside Vietnam, offering some of the best Vietnamese cuisine in the region. The Little Arabia District on Brookhurst Street features halal butchers, Syrian patisseries, and Yemeni restaurants. Old Towne Orange, about 15 minutes away, offers historic charm with antique shops and cafes

    Craft Beer and Local Dining

Anaheim has a thriving craft beer scene. For group-friendly dining near the convention center, options include Tangerine Room, The Peel Craft Bar & Kitchen, nfuse Restaurant, Parkestry Rooftop Bar, Tocca Ferro Italian Chophouse, and Hanagi Japanese Restaurant. Anaheim GardenWalk is an open-air precinct of shops, restaurants, and bars within walking distance of the convention center, featuring House of Blues Anaheim for live music and dining

    Practical Visitor Etiquette

Tipping is customary in the United States for services such as restaurants (15–20%), taxis, and hotel staff. Sales tax applies to most purchases in California. Anaheim is generally a safe, tourist-friendly city; standard urban precautions apply. Business casual attire is the norm for conferences, and a light jacket or sweater is useful for air-conditioned indoor spaces. The legal drinking age is 21, and photo ID is required for alcohol purchases

    Flights

Destination: SNA (John Wayne Airport – Orange County) is the closest and most convenient airport to the Anaheim Convention Center. LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) is the largest option with the widest range of domestic and international flights. LGB (Long Beach Airport) and ONT (Ontario International Airport) are additional alternatives

Book flights into SNA for the shortest transfer to the venue (20–30 minutes). LAX offers the most international flight options but requires a longer transfer (40–65+ minutes). Rideshare (Uber, Lyft), taxis, and shared/private shuttles are available at all airports. Primary rideshare pick-up and drop-off at the venue is the Transit Plaza outside Hall D, near the Marriott parking garage

    Visa

Most foreign nationals require either a B-1 business visitor visa or, for citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries, an approved ESTA to attend IFMA's World Workplace 2026 in Anaheim, California. The B-1 visa permits attendance at professional or business conventions and conferences. ESTA is valid for business visits of 90 days or less

Processing: Varies by consulate; apply at least 3–6 months in advance. ESTA decisions are usually available within 72 hours

IFMA provides a letter of invitation service for international attendees requiring one for visa purposes. Requests should be emailed to ifma@ifma.org and should include the individual's name, the country or location of the visa interview, and the name and date of the event. Please allow two to three business days for the letter to be issued. Letters are emailed to the attendee and will not be sent directly to embassies or consulates

    QUESTION 1 OF 7

How closely does your organization's work align with facility management, workplace strategy, or building operations?

    Decision matrix

Compare participation options side by side to choose the best fit for your objectives.

    visit

You want to learn, network, and evaluate solutions before committing to a booth, or your purchasing timeline is 6–12 months out

    Best for

FM practitioners and adjacent professionals (IT, HR, real estate, construction, sustainability) seeking education, peer networking, and vendor evaluation without a booth commitment. Ideal for first-time attendees, students ($50 rate), and teams sending 1–3 people

    Min. budget

    $500.00

    Timeline

Book 4–8 weeks out. Expo Only ($149) or Full Event registration; hotel block deadline 23 October 2026

    Risks

Hotel block sells out before the 23 October deadline

High travel friction for international or East Coast attendees

Expo Only pass does not include education sessions or meals

    exhibit

You have a sales-ready FM offering, a 3–6 month purchasing timeline from attendees, and can staff and equip a professional booth

    Best for

Companies selling FM products, services, or technology to facility management decision-makers with purchasing authority. Best for vendors with booth-ready assets, trained staff, and a clear lead-capture follow-up plan

    Min. budget

    $6,000.00

    Timeline

Commit 4–6 months ahead. Booth space contract, Freeman early bird (19 October), lead retrieval early bird (23 October), insurance (10 November)

    Risks

Booth costs exceed base space fee — carpet, electrical, internet, and A/V are separate line items

Lead follow-up failure without a clear CRM and SLA

Competition for attendee attention across 300+ exhibitors

    skip

You have no FM purchasing or sales timeline, no booth readiness, and no meaningful overlap with the facility management industry

    Best for

Companies or professionals whose products, services, or career objectives do not intersect with facility management, workplace strategy, or building operations

    Timeline

    Not applicable

    Risks

Opportunity cost of time and budget better spent at a vertically relevant event

Low ROI from attending an event outside your core market
