    Hotel tiers

A range of accommodation options near the venue and across key areas.

Crowne Plaza Riyadh RDC Hotel & Convention by IHG

    5-star
Riyadh (business district / convention hotel)

    USD 230–265 / night

5-star IHG convention hotel surfaced in the Google Hotels capture for the 14-16 December 2026 stay window, guest rating 4.7. The capture listed it at roughly INR 20,099 for the stay, so treat the SAR band as a conversion estimate and re-price on booking.

Holiday Inn Riyadh the Business District by IHG

    4-star
    Riyadh business district

    USD 150–190 / night

4-star IHG property with pool and free parking, guest rating 4.8 in the December 2026 capture. Free parking makes it practical if you plan to drive to ROSHN Front each morning.

Holiday Inn Riyadh - al Qasr by IHG

    4-star
    Riyadh (Al Qasr)

    USD 130–165 / night

4-star IHG hotel with hot tub and spa, guest rating 4.2 in the stay-window capture. The capture showed a lower nightly figure than the business-district properties, so it suits budget-conscious exhibitor teams.

Holiday Inn Riyadh - Olaya by IHG

midscale (capture label conflicts with IHG branding)
    Olaya district, central Riyadh

    USD 120–155 / night

Olaya property with pool and free parking, guest rating 4.3. Olaya puts you in the middle of Riyadh's banking and restaurant district, roughly 20-30 minutes from the venue outside peak traffic. Verify the hotel class at booking, since the capture label and the IHG branding do not match.

    Prime Al Hamra Hotel Riyadh

    midscale
    Al Hamra district, Riyadh

    USD 95–130 / night

Guest rating 4.7 from 149 reviews in the Riyadh Google Hotels capture for December 2026, and the cheapest of the captured options. Good fit for small exhibitor teams or students attending sessions on a tight budget.

Nova M Hotel Riyadh, Edge by Rotana

    4-star
    Riyadh

    USD 140–175 / night

Rotana Edge-branded property with guest rating 4.7 in the December 2026 stay capture; no price was displayed for the stay window, so this band is a district-level estimate rather than a quoted rate.

Holiday Inn Riyadh al Malaz by IHG

    4-star
    Al Malaz, Riyadh

    USD 125–160 / night

Eco-certified 4-star IHG hotel with outdoor pool and fitness centre, guest rating 4.8 in the capture. Al Malaz is a shorter drive to the Airport Road corridor than Olaya, which helps on early session mornings.

    Local transport

Get around the city with these convenient transport options.

    taxi / pre-booked private transfer

Estimated costApprox. SAR 100-160 one way for the 30 km airport run (metered or pre-booked flat rate; confirm before travel)
Best forRiyadh (RUH) to ROSHN FRONT

Airport taxis and pre-booked transfers run to Riyadh Front / RFECC on the Airport Road corridor. Pre-booking is worth it for late arrivals, and you should agree the fare or meter before departure if you take a street taxi.

    ride-hailing (Careem, Uber, Jeeny)

Estimated costApprox. SAR 30-60 per city trip depending on district and surge (confirm in the app before booking)
Best forCentral Riyadh districts (Olaya, Al Malaz, King Fahd Road) to ROSHN Front

Ride-hailing is the simplest way to reach the exhibition halls without parking. Expect surge pricing around opening and closing times, and use the venue's designated pick-up zone rather than hailing on the main road.

    metro (Riyadh Metro)

Estimated costApprox. SAR 4-8 per single journey, with day and multi-day passes available (confirm current tariff at the station)
Best forRiyadh Metro network toward the ROSHN Front / Airport Road corridor

The driverless Riyadh Metro gives a cheap, air-conditioned ride across the city. Check the route planner for the station closest to ROSHN Front, then finish with a short taxi or bus leg, since the fairground entrances sit back from the main line.

    bus (Riyadh Bus)

Estimated costApprox. SAR 3-5 per single ride (confirm fare and route on the Riyadh Bus network information)
Best forRiyadh Bus routes serving the ROSHN Front area

The city bus network is the cheapest option but slower and less direct for the fairground. Verify the closest stop and last service time before relying on it for an evening return.

airport coach (SAPTCO / Riyadh Bus)

Estimated costApprox. SAR 10-25 per airport coach seat into the city (confirm with the operator)
Best forRUH terminals to Riyadh city centre, then taxi or metro to ROSHN Front

Coach services connect the airport with central Riyadh at a fraction of taxi cost. Build in a transfer at the city end, and allow extra time if you are carrying exhibition material.

    Weather

Riyadh in December is mild and mostly sunny, with daytime highs typically around 20-24 C and overnight lows near 8-12 C. Humidity is low, rain is infrequent but can arrive as short sharp showers, and occasional north winds lift dust and reduce visibility. Exhibition halls are heavily air-conditioned, so a light layer helps during long sessions while the outdoor walk from the car park stays comfortable. These are climatological bands, not a forecast: check a local forecast in the week before travel.

    Plan for the climate

    Check temperatures and pack accordingly

    Venue connectivity

Riyadh has wide 4G and 5G coverage from STC, Mobily and Zain, including the Airport Road corridor and the ROSHN Front district. Travellers can buy a local prepaid SIM with a passport at airport or city outlets, or use an eSIM bought before departure. Hotel and venue Wi-Fi is normally available but can be congested during peak session times, so download the programme, floor plan and any large technical documents in advance. Some internet-based voice and video services behave differently on local networks, so test your usual calling apps and keep a local number or roaming voice option as backup.

    Working week and weekend

The Saudi working week runs Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday as the weekend. The 14-16 December 2026 show days fall Monday to Wednesday, so business contacts are in the office and government and corporate meetings can be scheduled around the exhibition.

    Dress and conduct

Conservative business dress is the norm: suits for men, and modest business attire with covered shoulders and knees for women. Many foreign businesswomen choose an abaya for formal settings but it is not required for visitors. Public conduct is conservative and alcohol is prohibited, so plan client hospitality accordingly.

    Greetings and meetings

A handshake with the right hand is usual between men, and it is polite to wait for a Saudi woman to offer her hand first. Small talk before business is normal, meetings can be interrupted and reordered, and patience reads as professionalism rather than indecision.

    Prayer times

Shops and offices may close briefly around prayer times, and meeting schedules often flex around them. Build slack into your day, particularly around midday, and avoid scheduling a tight pitch across a prayer break.

    Ramadan and public holidays

Ramadan does not fall in December 2026, but check the Saudi public holiday calendar before fixing travel dates, since national days and school breaks affect hotel rates and traffic across Riyadh.

    Photography and privacy

Ask before photographing people, and do not photograph government buildings, military sites or security checkpoints. On the exhibition floor, get exhibitor permission before filming stands or product demonstrations.

    Tipping and payments

Cards are accepted almost everywhere, with cash useful for small purchases and taxis. A 10-15 percent tip is normal in restaurants where service is not already included, and rounding up a taxi fare is common.

    Venue etiquette

Arrive early on day one for badge collection and bag screening, keep business cards handy since exchanging them is expected, and carry a reusable water bottle because halls are large and dry air is tiring over a three-day show.

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: RUH

Google Flights captures for 14 December 2026 show direct Gulf services from Dubai at roughly SAR 480-721, European departures from London at about SAR 2,312, Asian departures from Singapore around SAR 2,696 and Tokyo around SAR 2,908, North America from New York around SAR 3,781 and Sydney around SAR 6,229. All fares are one adult economy including taxes and fees, with baggage frequently charged separately. December is a high-demand month in the Gulf and prices climb as the date approaches, so book early and keep a connection buffer of at least three hours if you are on a one-stop routing through Doha, Dubai, Istanbul or Doha. Confirm which RUH terminal your carrier uses and recheck schedules before ticketing, since the capture pages carried live disruption notices.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: Riyadh (RUH): Primary international gateway serving Riyadh.. Allow road or rail time to ROSHN FRONT; on-site parking is usually available at major exhibition venues.

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near ROSHN FRONT: Riyadh (business district / convention hotel): Crowne Plaza Riyadh RDC Hotel & Convention by IHG; Riyadh business district: Holiday Inn Riyadh the Business District by IHG; Riyadh (Al Qasr): Holiday Inn Riyadh - al Qasr by IHG.

Ride-hail: Ride-hailing is well established in Riyadh, with Careem, Uber and the local operator Jeeny all serving the city. Install your preferred app and add a card before you land, since airport pick-up zones and in-app payment are smoother than paying drivers in cash. Trips from Olaya or Al Malaz to the ROSHN Front exhibition district typically cost a modest fraction of an airport transfer, but surge pricing applies around opening and closing times. Use the venue's designated pick-up area rather than flagging a car on the Airport Road, and save your hotel's location pin in Arabic as well as English so drivers reach the right entrance.

Public transit: The driverless Riyadh Metro is the backbone of public transport, with a network of lines linking the city centre, business districts and the airport corridor, and it is the cheapest comfortable way to cover long distances. The Riyadh Bus network fills in local streets, and airport coach services connect RUH terminals with the city centre. For IEC E, plan a metro ride to the closest station on the Airport Road corridor and finish with a short taxi or bus leg to the ROSHN Front gates, or simply use the metro for evening trips into Olaya where parking is difficult. Buy single or multi-day tickets at station machines, avoid peak commuter hours if you are carrying stand material, and check last-service times before a late evening return.

Parking: ROSHN Front is served by extensive surface and structured parking feeding the exhibition and conference halls, which suits visitors driving in from hotels in the northern districts. Expect a daily parking charge and a walk of several minutes to the entrance, and note which gate corresponds to your hall before you set off. Exhibitors normally arrange allocated bays and loading access through the organiser, with build-up and dismantle windows controlled by the venue. Confirm the current tariff, gate opening hours and any valet option with the organiser or venue before travelling, since these details change between editions.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

Month: December 2026 (winter in central Saudi Arabia)

Temperature: Daytime highs typically around 20-24 C, dropping to roughly 8-12 C overnight (Riyadh December climatology, not a live forecast - confirm in the week before travel)

Seasonality: December is one of Riyadh's cooler months and can bring the occasional rain shower, though totals are low and most days are dry and sunny. Short bursts of wind can lift dust across the city and reduce visibility, and the dry air indoors makes hydration and lip balm genuinely useful across three days in air-conditioned halls.

Packing: Pack for mild sunny days and cool evenings: lightweight layers plus a jacket or knit for after sunset, a compact umbrella for the odd shower, sunglasses and sunscreen, and comfortable closed shoes for long hours on concrete exhibition floors. Bring modest business attire for meetings, a plug adapter for UK-style type G sockets with a US-style A/B adapter as backup, and a reusable water bottle. A light scarf is handy for dust and for air-conditioned session rooms, and business cards in a small case still matter more here than a digital contact exchange.

    Plan your trip

    Planning

Best day to visit: Day 2 (mid-show)

Mid-show days at IECE usually combine full exhibitor attendance with scheduled B2B meetings, before early pack-down on the final day.

    T-1

Confirm your registration status on iece.saudieng.sa — Check whether you hold a visitor, delegate or exhibition-only pass, and save the confirmation to your phone and a printed copy in case the venue Wi-Fi is busy.

    T-2

Lock in flights into King Khalid International Airport (RUH) — December is a peak travel month in the Gulf. Compare non-stop Gulf carriers against one-stop routings and allow at least two hours for immigration and baggage before any same-day transfer to the venue.

    T-3

Reserve a hotel in the Olaya or King Fahd Road corridor — Rates climb closer to the date. Ask for a late check-out on 16 December if your return flight leaves after the closing session, and confirm whether airport transfers are included.

    T-4

Verify visa status and passport validity — Saudi entry normally requires a passport valid for at least six months. Carry printed hotel confirmation, return ticket details and travel insurance, which are commonly requested at check-in or on arrival.

    T-5

Plan the RUH to ROSHN Front transfer — Install Careem or Uber before you fly, and note the airport pick-up zones. Book a pre-paid transfer if you land after midnight, when app availability is thinner.

    T-6

Build a session and exhibitor shortlist from the published programme — Map the halls you need against the floor plan so you are not walking the full site three times. Note which exhibitors you want formal meetings with and email them for slots.

    T-7

Sort money matters and plug adapters — Cards are widely accepted, but carry some SAR cash for taxis and small purchases. Tell your bank you are travelling; Saudi sockets are mostly UK-style type G with some US-style A/B outlets.

    T-8

Check the Riyadh forecast and pack for mild days and cool evenings — Expect roughly 20 to 24 C by day and 8 to 12 C after dark, with a small chance of rain. Bring a light jacket, a compact umbrella and comfortable shoes for long days on concrete floors.

    T-9

Arrive, check in and do a venue reconnaissance — Drive past ROSHN Front to confirm the gate, drop-off point and parking entrance, and check the badge collection hours published by the organiser.

    T-10

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before doors open — Allow extra time for security screening and bag checks, and use the morning for the opening sessions before the floor gets busy after midday.

    T-11

Work your priority exhibitor list and follow up day-one contacts — Send a short message to every useful contact the same evening while your notes are fresh, and confirm which technical sessions you still want to attend.

    T-12

Close out meetings, collect outstanding material and leave for RUH with a buffer — Allow 60 to 90 minutes from ROSHN Front to the airport during the evening peak, and keep hand luggage sized for a quick security queue.

    FAQs & glossary

    Answers

    Frequently asked

What is IEC E and who organises it?
IEC E is an engineering conference and exhibition staged in Riyadh on the Saudi Council of Engineers domain, iece.saudieng.sa. The Saudi Council of Engineers is the statutory professional body that registers engineers and engineering offices in the Kingdom, which shapes the event's audience: consultants, contractors, utility and infrastructure owners, academics and regulators rather than a purely consumer audience.
When and where does the 2026 edition take place?
The 2026 edition runs from 14 to 16 December 2026 at ROSHN Front in north Riyadh, the exhibition and conference district on the Airport Road corridor. The three days fall Monday to Wednesday, which are working days in Saudi Arabia, so the show floor and conference sessions run alongside normal business activity.
    Who should attend IEC E?
Design consultants, EPC and MEP contractors, project and construction managers, QA/QC and HSE leads, utility and infrastructure asset owners, facilities and O&M teams, academics and engineering students, plus suppliers of building systems, automation, testing equipment and engineering software. If your work touches Saudi building codes, project delivery or engineering registration, the programme is aimed at you.
How do I register, and is the exhibition free to visit?
Registration is handled through the organiser website at iece.saudieng.sa. Visitor and delegate categories, exhibition-only passes and any fees are published there, so check the registration page before travelling rather than relying on third-party listings. Bring your confirmation and photo ID for badge collection at the venue.
Can international engineers attend, and is the event in English?
Yes, international visitors attend, and Saudi engineering events typically operate bilingually with Arabic and English used in sessions, signage and exhibition materials. Confirm the working language of specific sessions on the published programme if you need to plan interpreting or report writing.
Do I need a visa for Riyadh, and will the organiser issue an invitation?
Most foreign nationals need a visa before travel. Saudi Arabia offers a tourist eVisa to citizens of many countries, while business visitors normally use a commercial visit visa sponsored by a Saudi host entity. Ask the organiser directly whether an invitation letter is issued for IEC E participants, and apply well before December since processing times vary by nationality.
How do I get from King Khalid International Airport to ROSHN Front?
RUH is roughly 30 km from the ROSHN Front district. A metered taxi or pre-booked transfer takes about 30 to 40 minutes outside peak hours and longer in commuter traffic, with fares commonly in the SAR 100 to 160 range for the airport run. Ride-hailing apps and airport coach services into the city are alternatives, with a short taxi leg at the end.
Where should I stay for the show?
The Olaya and King Fahd Road business districts put you near restaurants, banks and other corporate visitors, at roughly 20 to 30 minutes by car from the venue outside peak hours. Al Malaz and eastern districts are often cheaper. Book early: December is a busy period in Riyadh and rates move quickly once the conference calendar is published.
What is the weather like in Riyadh in December?
December is winter in central Saudi Arabia: pleasant, sunny days with highs typically around 20 to 24 C and cool nights dropping to roughly 8 to 12 C. Rain is infrequent but possible, and dusty winds occasionally reduce visibility. Pack layers, a light jacket for the evening and comfortable shoes for large exhibition halls.
How do I exhibit or sponsor at IEC E?
Exhibition space, stand options and sponsorship packages are handled by the organiser sales team, and the organiser has previously published a sponsorship guide document. Request the current prospectus through iece.saudieng.sa and confirm hall allocation, build-up dates, rigging rules, power supply and freight access before signing, since Saudi venue rules on lifting and hot works are strict.
Is there parking at the venue?
ROSHN Front is served by large surface and structured car parks feeding the exhibition halls. Visitors should expect a daily parking charge and a short walk to the entrance, while exhibitors normally receive allocated bays or loading access through the organiser. Confirm the current tariff and gate arrangements with the organiser before driving.
Will sessions count towards my CPD hours?
The organiser publishes the programme and any accreditation details with it. Because CPD rules differ between professional bodies such as the Saudi Council of Engineers and foreign institutions, keep your attendance certificate and session list, and confirm recognition with your own registering body before claiming hours.

    Glossary

    1
    Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE)
The statutory professional body for engineering in Saudi Arabia, publishing the IEC E programme and exhibition information on iece.saudieng.sa. SCE registration governs who may sign engineering work in the Kingdom, which is why its conference draws consultants, contractors and regulators together.
    2
    Engineering registration (SCE classification)
The grading of engineers, technicians and engineering offices by the Saudi Council of Engineers. Saudi projects normally require designs and supervision signed by engineers holding the appropriate SCE classification, so foreign firms usually team with a locally registered partner.
    3
    Saudi Building Code (SBC)
The national code series covering structural, fire, energy, mechanical and plumbing requirements for buildings in the Kingdom. Consultants working on Riyadh giga-projects and municipal work routinely benchmark designs against SBC alongside international codes.
    4
    SASO
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, which sets conformity and certification rules for products entering the Kingdom. Equipment suppliers exhibiting at IEC E usually need to show SASO conformity or an equivalent certification path.
    5
    BIM (Building Information Modelling)
A coordinated digital model of a built asset shared between architecture, structure and MEP teams. On Saudi projects BIM is increasingly a contractual deliverable, and it underpins the digital-twin handover many government clients request.
    6
    Digital twin
A live model of an operating asset fed by sensor and maintenance data. In the Gulf it is usually presented as the operations-phase continuation of a BIM model, used for facilities management and predictive maintenance.
    7
    MEP
Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems: HVAC, power distribution, lighting, water supply, drainage and fire protection. MEP packages are a large share of the exhibition floor at engineering shows in Riyadh because of the cooling and water demands of the climate.
    8
    EPC
Engineering, procurement and construction contracting, where one contractor takes responsibility for design and delivery. EPC contractors are the main buyers of equipment and subcontract packages at Gulf engineering exhibitions.
    9
    FEED
Front-end engineering design, the pre-EPC phase that fixes process configuration, capacity and cost basis. FEED decisions determine which equipment families later reach the procurement stage.

    Commissioning and handover
The testing, balancing and documentation stage that proves a system meets design intent before the client accepts it. In Saudi public projects the handover pack, as-built models and O&M manuals are scrutinised before final payment.
    11
    HSE
Health, safety and environment management. Saudi industrial and construction clients expect documented HSE systems, permit-to-work processes and near-miss reporting from every contractor and subcontractor on site.
    12
    QA/QC
Quality assurance and quality control: the documented inspection and test plans, material traceability and non-conformance handling that run alongside construction. QA/QC interfaces are a common reason for procurement delays on Gulf projects.
    13
    Modular and off-site construction
Factory-built volumetric or panelised units assembled on site. Riyadh's programme volumes and labour logistics make precast, skid-mounted and modular MEP rooms a recurring theme at engineering trade events.
    14
    SCADA and industrial automation
Supervisory control and data acquisition systems that monitor and control plant. Utilities, water and district-cooling operators in Riyadh specify SCADA integration as part of almost every new infrastructure package.
    15
    Value engineering
A structured review that reduces cost or construction time without losing function. It is often requested by Saudi clients at design freeze, and exhibitors are expected to show costed alternatives rather than generic brochures.
    16
    CPD
Continuing professional development: recorded learning hours that support engineering registration and renewal. Delegates often ask conference organisers whether sessions carry CPD credit, so confirm accreditation with the organiser before claiming hours.
