    Impact

    A bigger and stronger platform

High Point Market is the single-largest economic event in North Carolina, generating approximately $6.7 billion in annual economic impact for the state, including more than $200 million in state and local taxes. The biannual show supports over 42,000 jobs and accounts for more than 50,000 hotel room nights in the local area. The event is equivalent to hosting four Super Bowls annually and transforms the city of High Point twice a year into the global furniture capital. It draws approximately 75,000 attendees from more than 100 countries each edition and spans 13 city blocks with over 11.5 million square feet of showroom space

    Audience quality

    High-value decision-makers

Fall 2025 Market delivered high-quality buyer engagement despite a marginal overall attendance decline of less than 1% from April 2025. Attendance from the top 300 buying companies increased 6.9%, and new buyers grew 2.9%, demonstrating strong participation from large retailers and new purchasing companies. Non-stocking buyers (designers) increased by about 1%, while international buyer registration declined 10%, though that gap closed dramatically in the final three weeks. Showrooms reported that designer customers were enthusiastic with active projects and were at Market to source inspiration. Several exhibitors noted that even though they had less traffic than hoped, they met more quality customers looking to buy. Registered buyers came from 102 countries, and Piedmont Triad International Airport recorded its largest passenger traffic day since 2007 on October 27, 2025

    Exhibitor outcomes

    Real business growth

Exhibitors at Fall 2025 Market reported solid returns despite a challenging tariff environment. Most showrooms said business from retail clients was markedly up, often 10 to 20 percent compared to spring. Most exhibitors arrived with low expectations but found enthusiastic attendees by midday Saturday. Companies that tracked retail client orders reported significant gains. Rug manufacturers also experienced success across locations and price points, with Rug & Kilim growing 25% in a down market and Feizy reporting fantastic traffic with all majors attending. Mohawk experienced lower traffic but had a great reception to its new product lineup, giving a positive outlook heading into 2026. Case goods suppliers used the market as an opportunity to address softness with new avenues for growth. New introductions were fewer than usual as management focused on pricing and optimal source countries for each SKU category

    Why it matters

High Point Market is the single largest economic event in North Carolina, generating approximately $6.7 billion in annual economic impact, including $200 million in state and local taxes and support for over 42,000 jobs. For nearly 120 years, the biannual event has transformed High Point into the global furniture capital twice a year, drawing approximately 75,000 attendees from more than 100 countries and around 2,000 exhibitors across 11.5+ million square feet of showroom space in 180 buildings. In an era of tariff uncertainty, supply chain disruption, and shifting consumer preferences, High Point Market remains the industry's central meeting place where difficult conversations happen, business relationships are forged, and the next six-month selling cycle takes shape. Market director Tammy Covington describes the event as 'like having four Super Bowls right here in our city.' The Spring 2026 edition demonstrated the industry's resilience: despite tariff headwinds, customs delays, and geopolitical disruption, 1,200 new buyer companies attended for the first time, international buyer registration was up 1%, and several showrooms reported record badge scans. Market is also a barometer for the broader home furnishings economy — a place where manufacturers, retailers, and designers converge to read the tea leaves, test new product strategies, and adapt to structural changes from rising freight costs to the decline of middle-income consumer buying power. As Furniture Today noted, 'High Point still matters' — and the Spring 2026 edition proved why

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Tariffs Reshaping Global Sourcing and Pricing Strategy

U.S. tariffs on imported furniture — including 25% on many categories and 50% on Indian goods before relief — fundamentally reshaped sourcing and pricing conversations at Spring 2026 Market. The February removal of the 50% tariff on Indian goods sparked a notable rebound in rug and textile business, with exhibitors reporting stronger-than-expected traffic and renewed buyer confidence. Tariff relief and IEEPA refunds were top-of-mind topics, though suppliers continued planning for disruption and uncertainty. The conversation evolved from existential to strategic — how to deliver perceived luxury without unsustainable price increases

Warm, Grounded Color Palettes Replace Cool Neutrals

Spring 2026 Market marked a decisive turn toward warm, grounded tones: deep terra cotta, burnished rust, rich chocolate brown, and moody burgundy. Butter yellow made a quiet entrance, while muted greens held strong. These palettes create spaces that feel curated and genuinely livable, signaling a definitive move away from the gray-dominated palettes of recent years. Mid-Century Modern influences returned in accessories and refined details — sculptural lamp bases, tapered legs, beautifully proportioned side tables — rather than dominating entire rooms

    03

    Hidden Technology and Multifunctional Furniture

Form versus function is no longer a debate. Spring 2026 revealed motion furniture that reads as beautifully designed stationary pieces, with mechanisms and comfort integrated without sacrificing aesthetic integrity. Modular seating systems designed for genuine flexibility allow rooms to reconfigure as purposes shift. Headboards with integrated LED lighting and charging sources, nightstands with motion sensors, and glass-front cabinets with integrated lighting represent the quiet integration of technology into furniture design

Natural and Sustainable Materials Embedded, Not Marketed

Natural and organic materials continued to dominate, from solid and reclaimed wood to nonengineered stone and natural fibers. Sustainability was embedded rather than marketed — FSC-certified wood, recycled content, and artisan craft became baseline expectations. ANDMORE's Market Snapshot program highlighted 'Crafted Naturals' and 'Sustainable Futures' as key themes among 40 trend-forward products across eight categories. Manufacturers like Home Trends & Design expanded commitments to eco-conscious manufacturing and heirloom-quality craftsmanship, moving away from fast-furniture cycles toward anchoring pieces designed to last generations

    05

Race to 'Better' Across All Price Points

A defining development at Spring 2026 Market was a race to 'better' across all price points. Manufacturers at every level elevated materials, construction, and design intent, underscoring a shift where value is defined by quality and craftsmanship rather than just price tier. Many showrooms focused on their next-level offering — giving retailers new options to attract consumers interested in 'better' if not 'best.' The definition of value shifted from a race to the bottom to a race to relevance, with 'more bang for the buck' dialogues centered on immersive sound, hidden storage, and sliding chaise features

    06

Craftsmanship, Architectural Detail, and Quiet Luxury

Spring 2026 design trends felt less trend-driven and more deeply considered, with craftsmanship, quiet innovation, and architectural detail taking center stage. Dimensional, coffered detailing on large case pieces added depth and shadow. High-gloss lacquer returned after seasons of matte finishes, creating striking contrast against natural materials like linen, burl wood, and woven rattan. The overall mood on the street was far more upbeat than Markets in recent memory, with designers actively shopping for projects and reporting that the 2025 slowdown was decidedly in the rearview mirror for their firms

High Point Spring Market Expected to Draw Nearly 75,000 Visitors Amid Tariff Uncertainty

Market director Tammy Covington confirmed nearly 75,000 visitors registered for the five-day Spring 2026 Market, featuring more than 2,000 exhibitors across approximately 180 buildings and 12 million square feet of showroom space. The event generates $6.7 billion in annual economic impact for North Carolina, described by Covington as 'like having four Super Bowls right here in our city.' Despite tariff headwinds and raw material cost pressures, the Market serves as the industry's central forum where difficult conversations happen and leaders navigate changes in policy for the next six-month selling cycle

What Happened at High Point Market: Upbeat Mood Despite Tariff Headwinds

Despite widespread assumptions that tariff headwinds, surging freight costs, and dwindling designer pipelines would create a doom-and-gloom affair, the mood on the street was far more upbeat than Markets in recent memory. Official registration numbers indicated attendance was more or less even with last October's, with companies registered down 1% but individuals registered down only 0.1% — meaning firms brought larger teams. International buyers were up 1%, and 1,200 new buyer companies attended High Point for the first time. Several brands reported scanning a record number of badges by Tuesday

Tariff Relief Sparks Renewed Momentum for Rug Brands in High Point

Rug importers at Spring Market reported a notable rebound in business following the February removal of the 50% tariff on Indian goods, with many exhibitors citing stronger-than-expected traffic and renewed buyer confidence. The renewed optimism was matched by noticeable product evolution, with exhibitors leaning into texture, pattern, and customization while highlighting craftsmanship and heritage

Customs Delays and Tariff Uncertainty Disrupt Global Exhibitors at High Point Market

A wave of tightened U.S. customs inspections combined with tariff confusion and an ongoing war in Iran left a number of international furniture exhibitors without their products when Spring Market opened in April. Customs processing times slowed noticeably over the six weeks prior to Market, creating a bottleneck that hit new-to-market importers especially hard. A group of six first-time exhibitors from Bangladesh had their furniture delayed at customs during Market week, though they made connections and planned to return for Fall Market. Another international exhibitor, from Ukraine, made a permanent switch from ocean freight to air cargo

Market Takeaways: There's a Race to 'Better' Across All Price Points

A recurring theme in showrooms across Spring 2026 Market was a good/better/best product strategy, even among manufacturers traditionally at the lower end of the price spectrum. With budget furniture shoppers facing tough financial times and promotional purchases often financed, many showrooms focused on next-level offerings to attract mid-to-upper income consumers. Furniture Capital of the World

High Point, North Carolina, is globally recognized as the 'Furniture Capital of the World' and the 'Home Furnishings Capital of the World.' The city was named for its rank as the highest point on the North Carolina Railroad when it was built in 1859. The first Southern Furniture Market opened in High Point in 1909, and the biannual event has survived the Great Depression and two World Wars to become the largest permanent trade show of its kind in the world

    Quaker Heritage and Southern Charm

The area was settled by Pennsylvania Quakers as early as 1750, and this heritage survives at the restored Mendenhall Plantation in nearby Jamestown. High Point is also home to High Point University, a Methodist institution founded in 1924. The city's cultural institutions include the High Point Museum and the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, which has presented professional theatrical productions since 1977

    A Unique Urban Showroom Experience

Unlike conventional convention center trade shows, High Point Market transforms an entire downtown into a showroom district. The Market spans 13 city blocks divided into seven color-coded neighborhoods, with showrooms housed in buildings that were once courthouses, movie theaters, post offices, and department stores. This immersive format allows buyers to experience furniture in context rather than in isolated booths

    Public Art and Furniture-Themed Landmarks

Driving and walking around High Point, visitors encounter artwork on buildings and walls, furniture themes, local history, music, and splashes of color that turn blank brick into public art. The city's most famous roadside attraction is the World's Largest Chest of Drawers, a 38-foot-tall architectural novelty built in 1926 that serves as a quirky symbol of High Point's furniture heritage

Most international attendees must either obtain a B-1 business visitor visa or, if they are citizens of a Visa Waiver Program country, an approved ESTA. The B-1 visa permits attending trade shows, conventions, business meetings, and contract negotiations. High Point Market Authority can issue a letter of invitation after registration is completed to support visa applications; requests should be emailed to international@highpointmarket.org with a copy of the passport identification page, allowing at least five business days for processing. Most U.S. Consulates accept a digital PDF format for letters of invitation

Amtrak Crescent, Carolinian, and Piedmont routes serve High Point Station at 100 West High Avenue, within walking distance of the Market District. The free downtown shuttle system (Green Line and Red Line) connects all seven showroom neighborhoods

Parking: Free parking is available at Park & Ride lots: P1 North (921 Eastchester Dr.) and P2 South (490 West Market Center Dr.), with continuous free shuttle service to the Transportation Terminal. No parking is provided at the Transportation Terminal. Parking is limited downtown and some streets are closed during Market. Free Buyer parking lots are available closer to Market with a buyer badge. Accessible parking is available at both Park & Ride locations

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

    Temperature: 48°F - 73°F (9°C - 23°C)

Seasonality: Spring season with a 29% chance of a wet day. Average monthly precipitation of about 4.0 inches. Daily high temperatures increase from 66°F to 73°F over the month

Packing: Layered clothing recommended due to variable spring temperatures. Bring a light jacket or sweater for cooler mornings and evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are essential given the 13-block Market District. An umbrella or rain jacket is advisable for occasional spring showers

    Planning

Best day to visit: Saturday or Sunday

Saturday is the official opening day with the most energy, major keynote sessions, and full showroom availability. Sunday continues strong programming with keynotes and panels. Both days offer the widest selection of events and showroom access. Monday is also strong for education and tours. Wednesday is the final day with reduced hours (8am-5pm)

    T

Book hotel accommodations — Downtown High Point inventory is very limited during Market. Book 4 to 5 months ahead. Use Travel Quest concierge (336.434.9920) for assistance; complimentary for stays of 3+ nights

    T

Register for Market pass online — Buyer pre-registration is free through April 22 at 6pm ET. After that, onsite fees apply ($30 buyer, $85 industry). Passes mailed to US registrants by April 10 and international by March 27

    T

    Decision

    Visit, exhibit, or skip?

    Should you go?

Answer 7 quick questions to see whether you should visit, exhibit at, or skip High Point Market — Spring 2026 edition (April 25–29, High Point, NC)

    QUESTION 1 OF 7

What best describes your role and business model in the home furnishings industry?

    Decision matrix

Compare participation options side by side to choose the best fit for your objectives.

    visit

You have a clear sourcing or education goal, can commit 3–4 days of travel, and have a budget of at least $800 for hotel, transport, and incidentals

    Best for

Retailers, interior designers, specifiers, and architects actively sourcing furniture, upholstery, lighting, rugs, textiles, wall décor, accessories, or kitchen and bath products. Also useful for industry professionals who want concentrated trend education and networking in one trip

    Min. budget

    $800.00

    Timeline

Register by April 22, 2026 for free buyer pre-registration. Book hotel 4–5 months ahead. Arrange airport or hotel shuttle reservations by 7pm the day prior. Plan showroom appointments 2–4 weeks in advance

    Risks

Trade-only entry — buyers must qualify with business credentials

Downtown hotel inventory is very limited during Market; late booking means staying in Greensboro or Winston-Salem

The show is physically massive (13 blocks, 11.5M sq ft) — poor planning leads to wasted time and backtracking

Rideshare and taxi rates surge during peak hours; the free shuttle system is the most efficient option

    exhibit

You have a showroom-ready product line, a clear target buyer list, and a budget of at least $5,000 for space, setup, travel, and staffing — and you can commit to a 4–5 day on-site presence

    Best for

Manufacturers, brands, importers, and suppliers in home furnishings categories who want to reach thousands of retail buyers and designers in a single event, and who can commit to a permanent showroom lease or a temporary exhibit space

    Min. budget

    $5,000.00

    Timeline

Contact building leasing agents 6–12 months ahead for permanent showrooms; temporary space (INTERHALL, Suites at Market Square, SALON) sells out early. Set up by April 23–24. Teardown begins after 5pm on April 29. Lead-capture orders and showroom plans should be finalized 60–90 days out

    Risks

Permanent showroom leases are annual commitments; temporary space is limited and competitive

High Point Market does not publish standard booth pricing — costs vary by building and space type

Tariff uncertainty and customs delays have disrupted international exhibitors in recent editions

Exhibitor ROI is highly dependent on pre-Market buyer outreach and appointment scheduling

    skip

Your category does not align with home furnishings, you cannot qualify for trade entry, or you cannot commit the time and budget required for a productive visit or exhibit

    Best for

Businesses outside home furnishings, professionals who cannot qualify for trade-only entry, first-timers with no sourcing or selling goal, and anyone unable to commit 3–4 days of travel or a minimum budget for meaningful participation

    Min. budget

    Not yet confirmed

    Timeline

    Not applicable

    Risks

Trade-only event — consumers and non-industry visitors are not admitted (children under 15 are not allowed)

Without a sourcing or selling goal, the scale of the show can feel overwhelming rather than productive

Travel and lodging costs are high during Market week relative to the value received if goals are unclear
