Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland do not require a visa. Plan for the climate

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Public transport is included

Your gamescom ticket includes free travel on local public transport (KVB) within the Rhine-Sieg network on the day of your visit. It is not valid on IC, EC, or ICE trains.

    Age restrictions and ID requirements

Children under 4 are not permitted at gamescom. Those aged 5–12 must be accompanied by an adult. Age ratings on games are strictly followed—bring an ID with your birthdate to get a free coloured wristband so you can play games rated over 16

    What to wear and pack

The Koelnmesse grounds are massive—wear comfortable, broken-in shoes (gym sneakers or hiking boots). Bring a small backpack for essentials; leave bulky items at your hotel. Card payments are the norm at most food stalls and vendors, though some smaller sellers may prefer cash.

Arrive early and plan your hall strategy

Lines can be long first thing in the morning, especially for AAA titles (expect 2–4 hour queues). For a quieter experience, visit on Thursday or Sunday rather than Saturday Explore the indie area—it often offers the best innovation with shorter wait times.

    Explore Cologne beyond the convention

Cologne is worth the trip beyond gamescom. Visit the UNESCO-listed Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom)—free to enter, right next to Hauptbahnhof.
