Machine tool

A powered machine that shapes metal by cutting, drilling, grinding, boring or forming, covering lathes, machining centres, milling machines, grinders, EDMs and presses. Machine tools are the anchor product group at EXPOMAFE, which places them next to the automation, tooling and metrology needed to run them in production.

CNC (computer numerical control)

The control system that reads a part program and drives a machine tool's axes, spindle and tool changer to cut to drawing tolerances. It is the shared language across the machining centres, turning centres, grinders and laser cutters on the EXPOMAFE floor, and buyers compare controller brands, axis counts and CAM programming software.

Machining centre

A CNC machine with automatic tool change and multi-axis motion that mills, drills and taps a part in one or few setups, often with pallet changers for lights-out running. Horizontal and vertical machining centres are the highest-volume capital item visitors compare at the fair.

Industrial automation

The use of controllers, drives, sensors, safety devices and software to run production with limited manual intervention. At EXPOMAFE it ranges from panel-level PLCs and VFDs up to complete robotic load/unload cells serving machine tools.

Industry 4.0 / smart manufacturing

Connecting machines, sensors and plant software so production data feeds scheduling, quality and maintenance decisions. On the fair floor this appears as machine-monitoring dashboards, OPC-UA or MTConnect data links, traceability tools and digital-twin walk-throughs of a production cell.

Cobot (collaborative robot)

A robot designed to work alongside operators, normally with force-limited motion and reduced guarding so it can share a cell with a machinist. Cobots are usually shown at EXPOMAFE doing machine tending, deburring, inspection or palletising next to conventional industrial robots.

PLC (programmable logic controller)

The rugged industrial computer that sequences a machine or line from inputs such as sensors and limit switches. PLC, HMI and safety-controller suppliers exhibit alongside machine builders because retrofits and new cells both depend on them.

MES and SCADA

Plant software layers: SCADA supervises and visualises machines and utilities in real time, while MES tracks orders, routing, tooling and quality through the shop. At the fair they are sold as the bridge between a single machine tool and a connected factory.

Metrology and CMM

Measurement science and its equipment, from callipers, micrometers and gauges to laser interferometers and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). Metrology suppliers co-exhibit at EXPOMAFE because inspection time and first-pass yield decide whether a new machine pays for itself.

Cutting tools and tooling

Carbide inserts, solid round tools such as drills and end mills, reamers, taps, tool holders, collets and clamping systems. Tooling is a fast-moving consumable category at the fair, with daily demonstrations on the machine builders' stands.

Press brake and sheet-metal forming

Forming equipment that bends and shapes sheet and plate, paired with shears, punches, laser cutters and automation for loading and stacking. Forming halls at EXPOMAFE serve job shops, appliance, HVAC and metal furniture manufacturers alongside heavy industry.

Fibre laser cutting

Cutting metal with a high-power fibre laser guided by CNC motion, usually with automatic sheet loading and nest optimisation software. Fibre lasers are one of the fastest-moving price-performance categories for visitors comparing capex at the fair.

Additive manufacturing (metal)

Building parts layer by layer from metal powder or wire, used for conformal cooling moulds, lightweight brackets and repair of worn tooling. It appears at EXPOMAFE as a complement to subtractive machining plus the finishing and heat treatment that follow.

Digital twin

A software model of a machine, cell or line that mirrors real behaviour for commissioning, cycle-time study and predictive maintenance. Vendors demonstrate it as a way to validate a new cell before the machines are installed.

Systems integrator

The engineering firm that combines machines, robots, controls, safety and software into a working production cell and takes responsibility for cycle time and acceptance tests. Integrators are a core exhibitor type at EXPOMAFE, especially for Brazilian plants buying their first robotic cell.
