    • 2

      —

Cosplay has moved from an attendee side activity into scheduled programming, with photo meetups, costume repair supplies on the floor and dedicated backdrops inside the hall.

    • 3

      —

Tabletop free play and publisher demo tables have grown alongside the comics floor, giving board, card and role-playing players a reason to stay for all four days rather than a single Saturday.

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Tipping and card payments

Seattle follows U.S. tipping norms: 15-20 percent at sit-down restaurants, a dollar or two per drink at a bar, and small amounts for hotel housekeeping. Card payment is near universal on the show floor, but Artist Alley creators appreciate cash for commissions and back issues.

Getting around on Link light rail and buses

Sound Transit Link light rail with Convention Center Station in the downtown core is the fastest way to move between downtown hotels and the venue district, and King County Metro buses fill the gaps along 4th Avenue. Approximate single-journey fares are USD 2.50-6 with contactless payment or an ORCA card; confirm live fares.

March weather and what to pack

March in Seattle is cool and wet. Pack a waterproof jacket with a hood, layers you can remove in heated halls, and shoes that handle wet pavement for the walk between downtown hotels and the convention center. Cosplay builders should plan for rain on photo walks.

Know which venue building you need

The Seattle Convention Center campus spans more than one building in the downtown core, and hotels quote walking distance to the Arch building where the main floor sits. Check the building and room on your panel or badge pick-up details before setting off, especially on the first morning.

    Artist Alley etiquette

Ask before photographing an artist's table or portfolio, do not handle original art unless invited, and respect posted per-person limits on show exclusives. If a creator is mid-commission, wait for a gap or leave your name and request rather than interrupting.

    Cosplay photography in public spaces

Ask before taking someone's photo, offer to send the shot, and keep group shoots out of aisles and fire lanes. The blocks around the convention center are busy downtown streets, so watch traffic and keep props clear of doorways.

    Accessibility and pace

A four-day show is physically heavy: halls are large and downtown blocks are hilly. Plan sit-down breaks, use the light rail instead of walking between distant hotels, and contact the organiser in advance if you need seating support at panels or other assistance.

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: SEA

Google Flights capture for a 4-8 March 2027 round trip showed typical pricing and noted the cheapest booking window is usually Nov 20-Feb 18. Compare nonstop SEA services from JFK, LHR and NRT; fares include taxes and fees for one adult, with bag fees extra.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA): Approx. 20-35 min by car or rideshare to the downtown convention district, longer in weekday traffic; Paine Field (PAE): Approx. 35-55 min by car depending on I-5 traffic; Boeing Field / King County International Airport (BFI): Approx. 15-20 min by car. Allow road or rail time to Seattle Convention Center; on-site parking is usually available at major exhibition venues.

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near Seattle Convention Center: Downtown Seattle: Crowne Plaza Seattle-Downtown by IHG; South Lake Union: SpringHill Suites by Marriott Seattle Downtown/South Lake Union; Lake Union: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Seattle Downtown - Lake Union by IHG.

Ride-hail: Ride-hailing apps are commonly used in Seattle; confirm local availability before travel.

Public transit: Sound Transit Link light rail serves Convention Center Station in downtown Seattle, and King County Metro buses stop along 4th Ave (capture shows a 7-minute ride from 4th Ave & Madison St). Seattle-Tacoma International Airport connects to downtown by Link light rail.

Parking: On-site parking is available at Seattle Convention Center; confirm daily rates and hall access on the organiser or venue site.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

    Month: March 2027

Temperature: Cool early-spring conditions in March, typically requiring a jacket

Seasonality: March falls in Seattle's rainy season, so expect showers during show days

Packing: Waterproof jacket, umbrella, layered clothing and comfortable walking shoes for the downtown walk to Seattle Convention Center

    Plan your trip

    Planning

Best day to visit: Day 2 (mid-show)

Mid-show days at Emerald City Comic Con usually combine full exhibitor attendance with scheduled B2B meetings, before early pack-down on the final day.

    T-1

Buy passes and lock lodging — A 4-Day Pass at USD 166.94 beats Friday, Saturday and Sunday bought separately. Compare downtown and South Lake Union rooms now, since a March convention weekend tightens availability near the Arch building.

    T-2

Rank guests, signings and photo ops — List who you actually want to meet, which day each guest appears and what each signing or photo op costs, so the separate spend does not surprise you on the floor.

    T-3

Book the airport transfer plan — Link light rail from SeaTac/Airport Station to downtown is the cheapest option at roughly USD 2.50-6 per journey; a taxi or rideshare into the venue district runs around USD 35-75.

    T-4

Draft a day-by-day panel plan — Use the official schedule page to mark two or three priorities per day, then leave gaps for the show floor. Popular room sessions fill up, so note arrival buffers.

    T-5

Set a floor budget by category — Split the budget into comics and back issues, original art and commissions, collectibles, and food and transit. Artist Alley commissions and dealer key issues are the two lines most likely to overrun.

    T-6

Cosplay build and prop check — Finish repairs at home, pack a repair kit with glue, thread, tape and spare lenses, and read the published prop rules before travelling with anything large or weapon-like.

    T-7

Pack for Seattle in March — Expect cool, wet weather: a waterproof shell, layers and comfortable shoes for walking between downtown hotels and the convention center. Floor halls are heated, so dress in removable layers.

    T-8

Sort transit payment — Set up contactless payment or an ORCA card for Link light rail and King County Metro buses, and note Convention Center Station as your downtown stop.

    T-9

Charge and pack capture gear — Camera batteries, power bank, memory cards and a tote for prints. Bring a rigid folder if you are buying original art or unmounted prints.

    T-10

Confirm badge delivery or pick-up — Check whether your badge is posted or collected on site, and note the pick-up location and opening hours before your first travel day.

    T-11

Pre-load the want list — Write down specific issue numbers, artists and exhibitors to visit first. Dealer bins and show exclusives move fastest in the opening hours.

    T-12

Arrive before doors for screening — Build in time for bag check and security, then head straight to the highest-priority booth or Artist Alley table before queues form.

    T-13

Carry cash for Artist Alley — Small creators may run card readers but cash keeps commissions and back-issue purchases quick. Keep a separate budget envelope so the floor spend stays visible.

    FAQs & glossary

    Answers

    Frequently asked

When and where is Emerald City Comic Con held?
Emerald City Comic Con runs Thursday through Sunday at the Seattle Convention Center in downtown Seattle, with the Arch building handling the main show floor and badge pick-up area referenced by nearby hotels. The pass structure confirms a Thursday opening day plus Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check the official schedule page at emeraldcitycomiccon.com/schedule for exact dates, hall hours and panel times before booking travel.
How much are Emerald City Comic Con tickets?
Published pass prices are a 4-Day Pass at USD 166.94, Thursday at USD 27.30, Friday at USD 64.05, Saturday at USD 84.00, Sunday at USD 64.05 and a Kids 4-Day Pass at USD 27.30. Single-day buying only makes sense if you plan one or two days; the 4-Day Pass costs less than Friday, Saturday and Sunday combined. Confirm current pricing and any fees on the official ticket page.
Do children need their own badge?
A Kids 4-Day Pass is sold at USD 27.30, which shows children are ticketed for the full run. Age cut-offs, whether very young children enter free and what a child pass includes are set by the organiser, so read the ticket terms before buying for a family group.
How do I get to the Seattle Convention Center from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport?
Sound Transit Link light rail runs from SeaTac/Airport Station into downtown Seattle, and Convention Center Station serves the convention center district. Approximate single-journey light rail fares are USD 2.50-6 depending on payment method; confirm live fares and last-train times. A taxi or rideshare from SEA to the downtown venue district is roughly USD 35-75, and journey time depends heavily on downtown traffic.
Can I drive and park at the venue?
On-site parking is available at the Seattle Convention Center. Rates and hall access change by day and by event, so confirm current pricing on the venue or organiser site before driving in. Downtown hotels also charge for parking, which can exceed the daily venue rate on a multi-night stay.
What is the difference between Artist Alley and the exhibitor hall?
Exhibitor booths are run by publishers, retailers, game companies and service providers selling published product, merchandise and demos. Artist Alley is where individual creators sell their own art, prints, commissions and self-published comics directly. If you want a commission or a sketch, plan Artist Alley time early in the day before popular artists fill their lists.
Are autographs and photo ops included with my badge?
Admission covers entry to the show floor and general programming. Autograph and photo-op pricing is set per guest, so treat these as separate budget items and check the individual guest listings before you travel. Bring cash as a backup even where card payment is accepted.
Can I attend in cosplay and bring props?
Cosplay is a core part of the show and costume photography is normal on the floor. Prop and replica-weapon rules are set by the organiser together with the Seattle Convention Center, so read the published prop policy before packing large props, anything with a metal edge or anything that reads as a functional weapon.
Is the Seattle Convention Center accessible?
The convention center is a modern, accessible facility with lifts and level access between halls, but specific services such as seating at panels, medical support and assistance for attendees with disabilities are arranged through the organiser. Contact the organiser ahead of the show if you need a specific accommodation on site.
Which day is busiest at Emerald City Comic Con?
Saturday carries the highest single-day price at USD 84.00, which signals peak demand across the run. If you want a calmer floor for browsing back issues and Artist Alley, Thursday and Sunday are the lighter options; if you are chasing guest signings, plan around the specific day that guest is scheduled.
Where should I stay near the venue?
Downtown and South Lake Union both put you within walking distance or one short ride of the Arch building. Captured nightly bands are roughly USD 150-190 for the four-star Crowne Plaza Seattle-Downtown, about 410 m from the venue, and USD 95-122 for the three-star SpringHill Suites and Holiday Inn Express options a short walk away. Prices are approximate and rise for a March convention weekend, so book early.
How far ahead should I plan my trip?
Work backwards from the Thursday opening: buy passes and lock a refundable downtown room about two weeks out, add a day for travel if you are flying into SEA, and build the panel and signing schedule once the official schedule page goes live. Saturday and any headline guest appearances are the first things to sell out or fill up.

    Glossary

    1
    Artist Alley
The section of the show floor where self-representing comic artists, illustrators and writers sell their own work: original pages, commissions, prints and self-published comics. It is separate from publisher and dealer booths, and creators usually take cash and card on the table.
    2
    Variant cover
An alternative cover printed for the same issue, often in limited numbers and sometimes sold only at a specific convention. Collectors check print runs and per-person purchase limits before queuing.
    3
    Show exclusive
Merchandise, comics or collectibles produced specifically for this convention and not sold through normal retail. Exclusives frequently sell out on the first morning, so check the exhibitor list for who is carrying them.
    4
    Blank sketch cover
A comic printed with a plain white cover so an artist can draw on it. Buyers bring blanks to Artist Alley to commission a one-of-a-kind cover during the show.
    5
    Commission
A paid, made-to-order piece of art, from a quick head sketch to a fully painted page. Artists usually quote prices and turnaround at the table, and pickup may be later the same day or by post after the show.
    6
    Back issues
Older single-issue comics sold from dealer bins, often priced by condition and key-issue status. Serious collectors arrive with a want list and check bins early before the best copies move.
    7
    Graded or slabbed comic
A comic that has been professionally graded, encapsulated in a rigid case and given a numeric condition score. Graded stock trades at a premium and is usually sold by specialist dealers rather than general vendors.
    8
    Cosplay
Costume play: attendees dressing as characters from comics, anime, games and film. Cosplayers often plan photo meetups, repair kits and changing arrangements around the show schedule.
    9
    Photo op
A scheduled, ticketed photograph with a guest, usually sold separately from admission and run in a dedicated photo area with a set time slot.
    10
    Signing or autograph line
A guest's scheduled signing session, where items may be signed for a fee set by that guest. Bring the item you want signed and check the guest's listed price and any per-person item limits.
    11
    Panel
A scheduled stage or room session with creators, cast members or publishers, often including audience Q and A. Popular panels fill up, so plan which room and arrive early.
