DSEI Japan 2025 — Record-Breaking Third Edition

The third edition of DSEI Japan took place on 21–23 May 2025 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, and was the largest on record. The post-show report confirmed participation from 474 companies representing 32 countries and over 13,000 unique attendees — a 59% increase compared to the 2023 edition. Over 140 major Japanese firms, including Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and IHI, showcased systems for satellite communications, unmanned platforms, ISR, and cyber defense. The Japanese Newcomer Zone, sponsored by Deloitte Tohmatsu, featured startups and mid-sized businesses working on dual-use AI, compact drones, and threat detection software.

The conference programme featured 197 speakers across 33 sessions, with military and civilian leaders from Asia, Europe, and North America. A standout session focused on the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), Japan's next-generation fighter jet initiative with the United Kingdom and Italy. Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba delivered opening remarks, and Defence Minister Gen Nakatani and Maria Eagle, the UK's Minister for Defence Procurement, also addressed attendees.

1,137 VIPs attended, including representatives from more than 30 countries, along with 527 government attendees and 2,137 military attendees. The exhibition floor area was 26,500 sqm, double the previous edition. DSEI Japan 2025 was recognised as Best Trade Show (5,000–10,000 sqm) at the EN Awards.

Business Cards and Bowing

Exchanging business cards (meishi) is a standard practice. Present and receive cards with both hands, bow slightly, and take a moment to read the card before putting it away. A slight bow (15 degrees) is the customary greeting for business meetings. Handshakes are also acceptable with international counterparts. (

Punctuality is highly valued in Japan. Arrive on time or a few minutes early for meetings and appointments. Public transport in Japan is extremely reliable, so plan your journey accordingly. (

Dining Etiquette

At business dinners, wait for the most senior person to begin eating before starting your meal. Do not stick chopsticks vertically into rice, as this is associated with funeral rituals. Language

While English is commonly used in international business settings, learning a few basic Japanese phrases is appreciated. Narita International Airport (NRT) is the closest major international hub, 30–40 minutes from Makuhari Messe by bus or train. Haneda Airport (HND) is also convenient (40–60 minutes). Book flights early for late April travel as this is a popular tourist season in Japan

Visa requirements depend on nationality. Citizens of 74 countries and territories can enter Japan visa-free for short-term business stays of up to 90 days (15 or 30 days for certain nationalities).
