    Weather

Late February in London is still winter: expect grey, changeable days with daytime temperatures around 8-9 C, overnight lows of 2-3 C, and a realistic chance of short rain showers on any of the three show days. Wind off the Thames can make the walk between Kensington (Olympia) station and the halls feel colder than the forecast number, and it is dark again by about 17:30. No official forecast was captured for 23-25 February 2027, so treat these as climatological norms and check a reliable forecast within 72 hours of departure.

    Plan for the climate

    Check temperatures and pack accordingly

    Venue connectivity

UK networks - EE, Vodafone, Three and O2 - provide 4G and 5G coverage across central London and at Heathrow, and prepaid eSIMs can be bought online or at airport shops before you land. EU roaming is no longer guaranteed after Brexit, so check your home operator's UK pass rather than assuming your plan carries over. Olympia and most London venues provide guest Wi-Fi, but treat public networks as unsecured for anything sensitive: use a VPN and keep proprietary or restricted material off shared connections. Wi-Fi is available at many Underground stations but not in tunnels, so download maps, tickets and agendas before going below ground. Power is 230 V with UK Type G three-pin sockets.

    Taxis

    Public transit

    Car rentals

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Money and payments

The UK uses pound sterling, not the euro. Contactless cards and mobile wallets are accepted almost everywhere, including Tube gates and buses, and London buses no longer take cash. A small amount of sterling is useful for tips but rarely essential.

    Tipping and bills

London restaurants commonly add a 12.5% discretionary service charge, so check the bill before adding a tip. Taxis and ride-hail trips usually round up; hotel housekeeping is a pound or two a night.

    Business etiquette

Meetings start on time and first names are normal from the first exchange. Business cards are less formal than in some markets. Conference receptions are where much of the real conversation happens, so keep an evening slot free on at least one show day.

    Getting around

Transport for London's contactless system covers Tube, bus, Overground, DLR and most National Rail journeys inside London, with daily and weekly caps applied automatically. Avoid the 08:00-09:30 and 17:00-18:30 peaks with luggage if you can.

Security culture at defence and geospatial events

Expect photo ID checks at registration and badge-only access to session rooms. Photography, video and screen recording are often restricted in defence briefings, and some exhibitors will not allow stands to be photographed at all. Ask before filming anything and keep devices charged for two-factor authentication at the door.

    Time zone and language

London is on Greenwich Mean Time in February, five hours ahead of US Eastern time and one hour behind Central European Time. Business is conducted in English, and distances and temperatures are metric.

    Venue logistics

London exhibition venues sit inside residential and commercial districts rather than in isolated compounds, so allow extra time for bag checks at the door and confirm which entrance your hall uses before arriving. Public transport is usually quicker than taxis during show opening and closing hours.

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: LHR

London Heathrow (LHR) is the default arrival point for DGI: it has the densest long-haul schedule, the fastest rail transfer via the Heathrow Express and the cheapest option on the Piccadilly line. Captured Google Flights quotes for 23-27 February 2027 showed a wide spread by origin - Frankfurt round trips around CA$255-275, Dubai from about CA$828, Singapore from about CA$903, Sydney from about CA$1,446 and Tokyo from about CA$1,552 - all one adult in economy including taxes and carrier fees, with checked bags and seat selection usually extra. Fares were pulled months ahead of the event and will move, so compare several date pairs, include the Saturday-night stay if it lowers the fare, and set a price alert instead of booking the first quote. Allow for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation or visa before you commit to a non-refundable ticket, and remember that February school holidays in some source markets make the last week of the month busier than mid-month.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: London Heathrow (LHR): Approx. 30-50 min by road; 25-40 min by Heathrow Express plus a short onward hop; London Gatwick (LGW): Approx. 70-90 min by road; about 30 min by Gatwick Express to Victoria plus 15-20 min onward; London Stansted (STN): Approx. 80-100 min by road; about 47 min by Stansted Express to Liverpool Street plus 25-30 min onward; London Luton (LTN): Approx. 70-95 min by road; about 35-45 min by DART shuttle plus Thameslink to St Pancras, then 25-30 min onward. A

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near Olympia: Earls Court / West Kensington: Earls Court / West Kensington; Kensington High Street / Hammersmith: Kensington High Street / Hammersmith; South Kensington / Gloucester Road: South Kensington / Gloucester Road.

Ride-hail: Uber, Bolt and FREENOW all operate across London, and licensed black cabs can be hailed on the street or booked through apps such as Gett. For Olympia, set the pick-up point on Hammersmith Road or Kensington High Street rather than the main entrance, which gets congested when sessions end. Expect surge pricing around the 17:00-18:30 exhibition close and after evening receptions. At Heathrow, ride-hail pickups are from designated car park zones rather than the terminal kerb, so allow 10-15 extra minutes to reach the car. Cross-town journeys in the morning peak often take longer than the District line, so compare before you book.

Public transit: Kensington (Olympia) station, served by the District line and London Overground, is the closest rail stop to the halls, and Earl's Court is one stop away with Piccadilly line connections. From Paddington or the West End, take the Circle line to Gloucester Road and change for the District line; from Bank or Monument, the District line runs westbound with a change at Earl's Court. Pay with contactless or a mobile wallet and the daily and weekly caps apply automatically, with singles in Zones 1-2 costing roughly CAD 5-6. Buses 9 and 27 run along Kensington High Street and are often quicker than the Tube for short hops around the venue. Allow extra time on Monday mornings and during the 08:00-09:30 peak, and check Transport for London's live status page on show mornings for planned engineering works.

Parking: Olympia London has limited on-site parking and it is frequently pre-booked or closed to visitors during large shows, so check the venue's own transport page before driving. Nearby commercial car parks in Kensington and Hammersmith are the practical fallback, with day rates commonly in the CAD 50-80 range; confirm prices with the operator rather than relying on signage. Olympia sits just outside the central Congestion Charge zone, but the Ultra Low Emission Zone covers all of Greater London, so verify that a hire car meets the emissions standard or a daily charge applies. For most delegates the District line or a bus is faster and cheaper than parking, particularly on the opening morning.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

Month: Late February 2027 (23-25 February show dates)

Temperature: Typical late-February London range: daytime highs around 8-9 C, overnight lows around 2-3 C, with frost possible on clear nights. These are climatological norms rather than a forecast for the show dates; confirm a live forecast within 72 hours of travel.

Seasonality: Late February sits at the end of London's winter, a period known for grey skies, gusty days and frequent short showers rather than prolonged rain. Monthly rainfall is modest, but a wet afternoon is plausible on any of the three show days, and daylight is limited - roughly 07:00 to 17:30 - so the walk back from evening sessions is after dark.

Packing: Pack a waterproof shell or a sturdy umbrella, warm layers for the walk between Kensington (Olympia) station and the halls, and comfortable shoes for long hours on the exhibition floor. Bring UK Type G three-pin adapters, a power bank for a full day of app-based meeting scheduling, and a compact bag for brochures and giveaways. Add one smart-casual outfit for evening receptions and keep documents in a waterproof sleeve.

    Plan your trip

    Planning

Best day to visit: Day 2 (mid-show)

Mid-show days at DGI Europe usually combine full exhibitor attendance with scheduled B2B meetings, before early pack-down on the final day.

    Day 14

Confirm your DGI registration is approved. Defence and government-facing events commonly vet attendees, so check whether the organiser has asked for employer details, a government email address or photo ID.

    Day 13

Book flights into London Heathrow (LHR) as the closest major gateway to Kensington (Olympia); compare Gatwick, Stansted or Luton only if the fare saving is worth the extra transfer time.

    Day 12

Reserve a refundable room in Kensington, Earls Court, Hammersmith or Paddington for the nights of 22-25 February 2027 and note the free-cancellation deadline.

    Day 10

If your nationality requires a UK visa, request an invitation or confirmation letter from the organiser now and start the application rather than waiting for approval to travel.

    Day 9

Check passport validity and whether you need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) as a visa-exempt visitor; the rules changed for many nationalities, so verify on GOV.UK for your own passport.

    Day 8

Build a meeting shortlist from the exhibitor list: imagery providers, GIS platform vendors, PED tooling and analytics firms you specifically want to see, and request slots through the event app.

    Day 6

Decide your airport transfer: Heathrow Express or the Elizabeth line to Paddington, the cheaper Piccadilly line to Barons Court plus the District line to Kensington (Olympia), or a pre-booked car.

    Day 5

Set up contactless payment on your phone for Transport for London and note the daily and weekly fare caps; this is cheaper and faster than buying paper tickets.

    Day 4

Confirm what you may bring and record. Geospatial and defence sessions often restrict photography, video and screen capture, so check bag and device rules with the organiser before you travel.

    Day 3

Pack for late-February London: a waterproof shell, warm layers, UK Type G plug adapters, a power bank and comfortable shoes for long hours on the exhibition floor.

    Day 2

Reconfirm meetings, download your badge confirmation offline and check which entrance and hall your first session uses on the floor plan.

    Day 1

Travel to London, check in, and allow 45-60 minutes for security screening and badge collection before your first session or stand meeting.

    Glossary

    1
    GEOINT (geospatial intelligence)
The analysis of imagery, mapping and location data - satellite, aerial, drone, vessel and ground sources - to describe what is physically happening at a place, used for defence, security, humanitarian and civil planning. At DGI the term covers both the data supply chain and the analyst tradecraft built on top of it.
    2
    IMINT (imagery intelligence)
Product derived from optical, infrared or radar imagery collected by satellite or airborne sensors, including before-and-after change detection over the same site.
    3
    PED (processing, exploitation and dissemination)
The workflow that turns raw sensor collects into usable intelligence: processing the raw data, exploiting it into a report or layer, then pushing it to the analyst or commander who needs it, often inside a deployed or time-critical loop.
    4
    ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance)
The collection cycle of sensing an area of interest, analysing what was collected and tasking follow-up collects. GEOINT is one discipline inside a wider ISR architecture.
    5
    SAR (synthetic aperture radar)
An active microwave sensor that images the ground day or night and through cloud, widely used for monitoring infrastructure, ports, vessels and ground change where optical imagery cannot see.
    6
