    Americas

    Why it matters

CSI Americas 2026 arrives at an inflection point for the cruise interiors industry. The global cruise orderbook has risen to 84 units, 13 new ships are entering service in 2026 alone, and over $4 billion is being spent on drydock and refurbishment projects this year. CLIA reports record passenger demand with 37.2 million cruisers in 2025. At the same time, the industry is navigating a fundamental shift toward sustainability-led material selection, digitalized design coordination, and experience-centric vessel architecture. For cruise line buyers and specifiers, CSI Americas condenses months of product research into two days, offering direct access to over 250 exhibitors spanning design studios, outfitters, and interior suppliers. For exhibitors, it is the only event in the Americas that brings together the full cruise interiors supply chain — cruise lines, design studios, shipyards, and procurement teams — under one roof. The co-location with Hotel & Resort Design South and the Sustainable Design Summit Working Group Breakfast creates cross-sector opportunities to learn from hospitality design innovation and sustainability best practices. As the cruise industry pursues net-zero emissions by 2050 and invests in more efficient ships, the demand for innovative, sustainable, and operationally efficient interior solutions has never been greater

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Record newbuild orderbook driving interior demand

The global cruise ship orderbook has risen to 84 units, with 13 new ships entering service in 2026 alone. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings placed orders for three additional ships in February 2026 and now has 17 newbuilds on order. Royal Caribbean Group announced its new Discovery Class in January 2026, with two ships ordered and options for four more. Celebrity Cruises expanded its river cruise fleet commitment to 20 ships by 2031. This wave of large-scale ship orders has made the interior design and outfitting market busier than it has been in years

    Source
    02

    Booming refurbishment and modernization market

2026 is a record-breaking year for cruise drydocks, with over 2,000 total drydock days on the calendar and more than $4 billion spent on upgrades. The cruise ship refurbishment market is projected to reach $9 billion by 2033, according to DataIntelo. Several fleet-wide refurbishment programs are underway, creating one of the most active refit markets in recent years. Holland America Line announced a $500 million fleet transformation program across six vessels, developed in partnership with Fincantieri, embedding sustainability specialists directly into the design and procurement process

    Source
    03

Sustainability-led material selection and circular design

Shipowners and operators are prioritizing lightweight composite solutions, recyclable materials, certified timber alternatives, and low-emission adhesives to reduce environmental impact while maintaining durability in high-humidity, vibration-prone, and high-traffic marine environments. The industry is moving toward measurable sustainable outcomes, with initiatives such as the Sustainable Materials Library and Sustainable Design Summit at CSI Americas 2026 reflecting this shift. Holland America Line is embedding circular design principles and responsible resource management at the center of its fleet redevelopment, working with suppliers to ensure refurbishment materials are reused, repurposed, or recycled whenever possible

    Source
    04

Digitalization, AI, and smarter project workflows

Digital ship design, 3D modeling, laser scanning, and building information-style coordination are improving collaboration between naval architects, yards, outfitters, and regulatory stakeholders. Artificial intelligence is becoming a practical enabler in design optimization, predictive maintenance, procurement planning, and passenger experience management. AI-supported design tools can compare layouts, material weights, energy loads, and traffic flows at earlier project stages, reducing costly redesigns. CSI Americas 2026 content sessions explicitly explore how new technologies and workflows drive the industry to work smarter

    Source
    05

Experience-centric design and hotel-grade guest environments

Passenger-facing vessels are emphasizing hotel-grade finishes, flexible dining areas, wellness spaces, accessibility, acoustic comfort, and immersive lighting concepts. Cruise design is shifting away from singular expressions of luxury toward thoughtful, experience-led environments that are inclusive and emotionally engaging. The integration of cruise and resort design thinking is gaining traction, reflected in the co-location of CSI Americas with Hotel & Resort Design South. Oceania Cruises' Oceania Marina refit exemplifies this with fully redesigned staterooms featuring marble finishes, new layouts, and expanded dining concepts

    Source
    06

Modular construction and prefabrication for faster refits

Modular cabins, prefabricated wet units, and standardized interior systems are gaining traction because they can shorten installation windows, improve quality control, and reduce disruption during refits. This approach aligns with the operational reality that cruise lines face tighter drydock schedules and rising passenger expectations. Suppliers who can demonstrate prefabrication capability and rapid installation expertise are increasingly competitive in the cruise interiors supply chain

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

Art Deco heritage and design culture

Miami Beach is home to the world's largest collection of Art Deco architecture, with more than 800 historic buildings in the Miami Beach Architectural District. The city's design-forward identity makes it a natural host for a cruise interiors design event. Attendees can explore the Art Deco Historic District along Ocean Drive, just a short walk from the convention center

Latin American and Caribbean business culture

Miami Beach has strong cultural and business ties to Latin America and the Caribbean, reflected in the event's exhibitor and visitor profile. Business greetings typically begin with a handshake, smile, and eye contact. Building relationships and taking time for personal connection is valued in the local business culture

    Tipping and service charges

In Miami Beach restaurants, an 18-20% service charge or gratuity is often automatically added to the bill. This is shared among staff including the server. There is generally no need to tip additional unless the service was exceptional. For hotel housekeeping, a tip of $2-5 per day is customary. Tipping rideshare drivers and taxi drivers is appreciated but at the passenger's discretion

    Dress code and business attire

Business attire at trade shows in Miami Beach is typically smart casual, with lightweight fabrics recommended due to the warm and humid June climate. For evening networking events such as the Opening Party or Happy Hour, smart casual to business casual is appropriate. Some upscale restaurants in South Beach enforce dress codes after 4:00 PM

    Networking and social etiquette

Networking is central to the CSI experience. Speed Networking sessions are structured with pre-matched meetings between exhibitors and VIP attendees. When greeting new contacts, a handshake is standard for first meetings. Punctuality is appreciated but a slightly relaxed approach to start times is common in South Florida social settings

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: Miami International Airport (MIA)

MIA is the primary gateway with the most direct international connections. FLL is a viable alternative, approximately 27 miles north, with lower fares on some routes. June is high season in Miami Beach; book flights and hotels early for the best rates. Route 150 Miami Beach Airport Express bus provides direct service from MIA to South Beach

    Visa

Most international attendees traveling to CSI Americas 2026 will require either a B-1 business visitor visa or an approved ESTA under the Visa Waiver Program. The B-1 visa is for business visitors attending a professional convention or conference. VWP-eligible travelers may use ESTA for business travel for stays of 90 days or less. Attendees should check their eligibility and apply well in advance

Processing: Varies by U.S. embassy or consulate; interview wait times range from days to 12+ months depending on the post. Apply as early as possible. The new $750 expedited appointment pilot (July 1 – December 31, 2026) at select consular sections can reduce interview wait times to within 10 business days

The B-1 visa allows attendance at scientific, educational, professional, or business conventions or conferences, consulting with business associates, and negotiating contracts. A letter of invitation from the event organiser may support the application but does not guarantee visa approval. All applicants must demonstrate that they are traveling for a temporary business purpose and intend to return to their home country. The MRV fee is $185 and is non-refundable. A new $250 Visa Integrity Fee is expected to apply from 2026, bringing the total cost to approximately $435
