    by car

Downtown / South ParkApprox. 0.6 mi walk to the convention center to venue

    4.3

    USD 190–275 / night

    4.4

    Courtyard Los Angeles L.A. Live

    4.2

    USD 210–300 / night

Holiday Inn Express Los Angeles - LAX Airport by IHG

    3-star
LAX / Airport corridorApprox. 18 mi; 30-50 min by car to downtown to venue

    4.2

    USD 150–187 / night

Hampton Inn by Hilton Los Angeles Airport LAX

    3-star
LAX / Airport corridorApprox. 18 mi; 30-50 min by car to downtown to venue

    4.3

    USD 150–190 / night

Holiday Inn Express West Los Angeles - Santa Monica by IHG

    3-star
West LA / Santa MonicaApprox. 14 mi; 25-45 min by car to downtown to venue

    4.6

    USD 170–230 / night

Approximate band, confirm rates. Highest rated property in the original hotel capture, but it is a coastal-side base and the daily drive to the convention center crosses some of the basin's busiest corridors.

Comfort Inn Los Angeles near Hollywood

    3-star
HollywoodApprox. 7 mi; 20-35 min by car to downtown to venue

    3.6

    USD 130–185 / night

Approximate band, confirm rates. Free parking was noted in the original capture, which makes it a budget option for a small vendor team driving to the show.

    Local transport

Get around the city with these convenient transport options.

    rideshare

Estimated costUSD 35–75 taxi or rideshare to the venue district
Best forLAX (LAX-it lot) to Los Angeles Convention Center

Rideshare pickup at LAX is consolidated at the LAX-it lot beside Terminal 1, reached by a short shuttle or walk. Allow 30-50 minutes for the run into downtown and more during weekday peak.

    metro

Estimated costApprox. USD 1.75 per single Metro Rail ride on a TAP card; airport shuttle connection included in the transfer
Best forLAX to downtown Los Angeles via Metro rail

The cheapest way into downtown: airport shuttle to the Metro K or C line, then transfer onto a downtown-bound train. Slower with luggage and awkward with heavy inventory, but the fare gap versus a rideshare is large.

    metro

Estimated costApprox. USD 1.75 per single Metro Rail ride; a day pass caps the cost of multiple hops
Best for7th Street/Metro Center or Pico Station to Los Angeles Convention Center

The E Line serves Pico Station and the B and D lines serve 7th Street/Metro Center, both within walking distance of the hall. This is the standard last-mile option for anyone staying on a rail line.

    bus

Estimated costApprox. USD 9.75 one way on the FlyAway plus approx. USD 1.75 for the onward Metro ride; confirm current pricing
Best forLAX FlyAway bus to Union Station, then Metro to the convention center

A useful middle ground between rideshare and full public transit for travellers with one large bag. Union Station connects to downtown rail and bus services.

    bus

Estimated costApprox. USD 0.50 per ride, or a discounted multi-ride pass; confirm current DASH fares
Best forDASH downtown shuttle loops around the convention center district

DASH covers short hops between downtown hotels, Pershing Square and the convention center area. Best value for moving between a downtown room and the hall without paying rideshare minimums.

    rideshare

Estimated costApprox. USD taxi/rideshare from BUR to venue (estimate; confirm before travel)
Best forHollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to Los Angeles Convention Center

BUR is the closest airport to downtown by road and the terminal is quick to exit. Expect 25-40 minutes off-peak and 45-60 minutes if the 5 or 101 is congested.

    rideshare

Estimated costApprox. USD taxi/rideshare from LGB to venue (estimate; confirm before travel)
Best forLong Beach Airport (LGB) to Los Angeles Convention Center

A longer southern run into downtown with no practical rail equivalent from the airport itself. Budget the transfer explicitly if you are using LGB to chase a cheaper domestic fare.

    taxi

Estimated costApprox. USD 8-12 for a short downtown taxi or rideshare hop; many properties are walkable instead
Best forDowntown hotel to Los Angeles Convention Center

For hotels within a mile of the hall, walking usually beats a car given L.A. Live event traffic. Use a taxi only for late evenings, heavy inventory or bad weather.

    Weather

Late December in downtown Los Angeles is a mild, cool-season pattern rather than a winter one: daytime highs typically sit near 18-22 C (65-72 F) and overnight lows near 9-12 C (48-54 F). Rain is possible but usually arrives as a passing system rather than a settled wet week, and humidity stays low. Daylight ends around 16:50 local time, so evening walks back from the convention center feel cool quickly. The free-source air-quality lookup for this run (Open-Meteo public API, not an on-site measurement) put US AQI near 66 with PM2.5 around 12.9 micrograms per cubic metre, which is moderate; sensitive travellers should check current advisories. Treat all figures as climatological guidance and check the National Weather Service Los Angeles forecast in the final five days.

    Plan for the climate

    Check temperatures and pack accordingly

    Venue connectivity

Mobile coverage across downtown Los Angeles is strong on the major US carriers, but convention-center halls are dense steel-and-concrete spaces where data can slow at peak hours. International visitors should arrange an eSIM or a prepaid US SIM before travel, and confirm their handset supports US bands. Wi-Fi is generally offered in public areas of the convention center; do not assume it reaches deep into the show floor, so plan a hotspot or tethering for card-scanner or payment terminals. US power is 120 V at 60 Hz with Type A and Type B plugs, so European and Asian visitors need a voltage converter, not just a plug adapter.

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Collector-culture etiquette

Expect cashless card and mobile payments in most Los Angeles venues and vendors; carry a tote and protective sleeves if you plan to buy graded cards or prints.

    Arrival and badges

Downtown traffic peaks on weekday mornings; arrive early on the first morning for badge pickup and to beat the queue at popular vendor booths.

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: LAX

Google Flights captured on 19 Dec 2026 departures priced the London, Dubai and Sydney routes as high, New York and Tokyo as typical, and suggests booking roughly 3-6 months ahead for London. Compare LAX connections before committing.

    Transport

Get to the venue and around the city with these options.

Airport → venue: Primary gateways: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): Approx. 30-45 min off-peak; 50-75 min in weekday traffic; Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR): Approx. 25-40 min off-peak; 45-60 min in traffic; Long Beach Airport (LGB): Approx. 35-50 min off-peak; 55-75 min in traffic. Allow road or rail time to Los Angeles Convention Center; on-site parking is usually available at major exhibition venues.

Hotel → venue: Precinct hotels near Los Angeles Convention Center: Downtown / L.A. Live: JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live; Downtown / L.A. Live: The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles; Downtown Los Angeles: Sheraton Grand Los Angeles.

Ride-hail: Ride-hailing apps are commonly used in Los Angeles; confirm local availability before travel.

Public transit: LA Metro's Trip Planner covers rail and bus connections toward the Los Angeles Convention Center; the venue publishes a Directions & Getting Here page. The Metro Rail E Line serves downtown Los Angeles and connects with the Metro bus network, and LAX offers public-transport connections into the city. Confirm live fares and service changes on metro.net before travel.

Parking: On-site parking is available at Los Angeles Convention Center; confirm daily rates and hall access on the organiser or venue site.

    Weather

Plan and pack for the event climate.

    Month: December 2026

Temperature: Cool-season Los Angeles: expect mild days and noticeably cooler evenings in late December. Confirm the current forecast close to the date; the free-source weather family did not return a forecast for this run.

Seasonality: Late December falls in the cooler, wetter stretch of the Los Angeles year, with a chance of rain showers; plan for short daylight and possible shower days.

Packing: Layer clothing for mild days and cool evenings, bring a light rain jacket, and include comfortable shoes for the walk between the convention center halls and downtown hotels.

    Plan your trip

    Planning

Best day to visit: Day 2 (mid-show)

Mid-show days at Collect-A-Con Los Angeles 2026 usually combine full exhibitor attendance with scheduled B2B meetings, before early pack-down on the final day.

    14 days out

Open collectaconusa.com and confirm the published show dates (19-20 December 2026), the Los Angeles Convention Center hall assignment and the posted door times before booking anything non-refundable.

    12 days out

Buy admission online if the organiser lists advance pricing, and note whether the ticket is single-day or weekend so you can plan two visits around restocks.

    10 days out

Lock the hotel. Downtown properties within walking distance of the Los Angeles Convention Center sell out first on a pre-Christmas weekend, so compare a downtown room against an LAX-corridor room with a shuttle.

    8 days out

Book the flight into LAX and price BUR and LGB as alternates. Add the airport transfer to the budget: Metro Rail is about USD 1.75 a ride, while a rideshare from LAX to downtown typically runs USD 40-65.

    6 days out

Set a cash and card budget split. Many card dealers take cards and mobile payment, but small vendors and binder traders often prefer cash, so carry a modest amount of small bills.

    5 days out

Check the National Weather Service Los Angeles forecast and the venue bag policy. Late December can swing from a mild 22 C afternoon to a damp 12 C evening in the same weekend.

    4 days out

Build a want list with set names, card numbers and target grades. Screenshot current sold prices for your top 10 targets so you can judge booth pricing in the room rather than guessing.

    3 days out

Pre-sort your trade binder and label prices or trade values on the pages you intend to work. Unpriced binders slow down every trade and cost you floor time.

    2 days out

Pack card protection: penny sleeves, toploaders, a rigid storage box and a tote that closes. Loose cards in a backpack pocket are how corners get dinged on the trip home.

    1 day out

Charge power banks and phones, download the LA Metro TAP app if you plan to ride rail, and screenshot your ticket and hotel confirmation in case convention-center mobile data is congested.

    Show morning (19 December)

Arrive ahead of posted doors for badge pickup, head straight to any announced convention exclusive or grading drop-off desk, then work the hall methodically rather than re-walking the same aisle.

    Glossary

    1
    Graded slab
A trading card that has been professionally authenticated, numerically graded and permanently sealed inside a tamper-evident hard plastic holder, commonly called a slab. The label shows the grade, the card's identity and a certification number you can look up in the grader's public database.
    2
    Raw card
An ungraded card still in its original or a sleeve-and-toploader state. Raw cards usually trade at a discount to the same card in a high grade, because the buyer is taking on condition risk.
    3
    PSA, BGS and CGC
The three grading companies most often referenced by US card collectors: PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator), BGS (Beckett Grading Services) and CGC (Certified Guaranty Company, which also grades comics and non-sports cards). Each uses its own 1-10 scale and label design.
    4
    Population report
A public count, published by a grading company, of how many copies of a specific card have received each grade. Collectors use the population, or pop report, to judge relative scarcity before paying a premium for a high grade.
    5
    Gem Mint 10
The top grade on the ten-point scale used by the major US graders. A Gem Mint 10 copy typically trades at a multiple of the same card in a 9, so centering, corners, edges and surface all affect value.
    6
    Booster box
A factory-sealed display box containing a fixed number of booster packs from a single trading card game set. Sealed boxes are collected as investment stock as well as opened for pack breaks.
    7
    Elite Trainer Box (ETB)
A Pokémon TCG sealed product containing booster packs, card sleeves, dice and condition markers. ETBs are a common entry-level sealed collectible and a frequent vendor-hall comparison item.
    8
    Chase card
The most desirable card or short-print in a set, the one buyers open packs hoping to pull. Chase cards drive sealed-product pricing and are usually the first cards to sell out at a dealer booth.
    9
    Alt art and secret rare
Higher-rarity print variants inserted at lower pull rates than the base version of a card. In modern Pokémon and One Piece sets, alternate-art and secret-rare printings often carry the largest single-card premiums.
    10
    Pull rate
The odds of opening a specific rarity from a pack or box, usually expressed as an average number of packs per hit. Pull rates explain why a sealed box price differs sharply between sets.
    11
    1st Edition and Shadowless
Early Pokémon print markers. 1st Edition cards carry the edition stamp next to the set symbol, while Shadowless refers to an early English Base Set print run with no drop shadow around the artwork frame. Both command large premiums over later unlimited printings.
    12
    Reverse holo
A card where the artwork window is non-foil but the rest of the card surface carries a foil pattern. Reverse holos fill out modern set checklists and are a common binder-trade item at card shows.
    13
    Rookie card
In sports cards, the first mainstream card of a player issued during their debut season. Rookie-card status is the single biggest driver of sports card demand and pricing.
    14
    Case break
A group format where a host opens sealed cases or boxes on camera and allocates the pulls to buyers who paid for a team, a player or a random slot. Breakers attend card shows to source inventory and to film booth content.
    15
    Consignment
Handing cards to a dealer or auction house to sell on your behalf for a fee or commission. Show-floor consignment desks let sellers drop cards without renting their own booth.
    16
    Trade binder
A binder of cards carried around the hall to swap with other collectors. Binder trading is the low-cost side of a card show and works best with clearly priced or clearly tagged pages.
    17
    Toploader and penny sleeve
Two layers of standard card protection: a soft acid-free sleeve against the card surface, then a rigid plastic toploader for handling and transport. Bring spares if you plan to buy raw cards at the show.
    18
    One-touch magnetic holder
A rigid display case with a magnetic closure used for higher-value raw cards. It protects the card while keeping it accessible, unlike a permanently sealed grading slab.
    19
    Autograph authentication
Third-party verification that a signature is genuine, usually evidenced by a sticker, certificate or database entry from an authentication service. Signed memorabilia without authentication generally trades at a significant discount.
    20
    Artist alley
A zone of the show floor reserved for independent artists and illustrators selling original artwork, prints, sketch commissions and fan-made merchandise rather than manufactured product lines.
    21
    Convention exclusive
A product, variant or promo card released only at a specific show or through a specific event partner. Exclusives are usually limited in quantity, which is why attendees queue early on the first morning.
    22
    Vintage versus modern
Collector shorthand for pre-2000s material (vintage) versus recent print runs (modern). The two sides use different pricing logic: vintage trades on scarcity and grade populations, modern on set hype and pull rates.
