    Testimonials

We are very satisfied – 269,000 caravanning and camping enthusiasts from 80 countries in Düsseldorf is an outstanding result and represents the second-best result in the 64-year history of this trade fair. Despite a challenging economic environment, we reached visitors who not only showed great interest in this form of holiday but also came with clear purchase intentions. What was particularly impressive was the consistently positive mood. The passion for mobile leisure was felt in all halls. Our exhibitors report many new contacts and very good sales – this is a strong signal and gives the entire caravanning industry a powerful tailwind for the new season

Marius Berlemann · Managing Director · Messe Düsseldorf · 2025

CARAVAN SALON has once again impressively confirmed its exceptional position as the most important and largest trade fair in our industry with its impressive visitor result. The enormous response shows that caravanning has lost none of its appeal – on the contrary, more and more people from all age groups and social classes are discovering this form of holiday for themselves. The basis of this success is the unique offering and diversity that our industry offers holidaymakers. Nowhere is this more clearly visible than here in Düsseldorf, where exhibitors have once again set standards with a wealth of innovations and new products

    Bernd Löher · President · Caravaning Industrie-Verband (CIVD) · 2025

We are extremely satisfied with how things have gone so far. By Wednesday, more than 170,000 caravanning fans had already visited the show. Market context

Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

Europe, with Germany as the leading national market

    Why it matters

CARAVAN SALON 2026 takes place at a pivotal moment for the caravanning industry. Demand remains strong – motorhome registrations in Germany rose 1.4% in early 2026 – but manufacturers are deliberately reducing production to clear high inventory, causing industry revenue to fall 6.5% to around €14.1 billion. The used market reached a record 192,239 ownership transfers. With over 1.8 million registered recreational vehicles in Germany forming a strong base for service and accessories, the show serves as both a showcase for new models and a barometer for further market development. The new off‑road and roof‑tent areas reflect major consumer trends toward self‑sufficiency, flexibility, and individual travel. As CIVD Managing Director Daniel Onggowinarso notes, caravanning offers flexibility, independence, and cost predictability – values increasingly important in uncertain times

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

    All‑wheel drive and off‑road capability

Rising demand for all‑wheel‑drive motorhomes and off‑road‑capable vehicles. For 2026, the show created a dedicated off‑road area in Halls 16 and 17, where models like the Carado CV 595 X‑Edition (based on VW Crafter, from €88,600) debut

    Source
    02

Roof tents and compact, flexible travel

The ongoing trend towards flexible and compact travel is reflected in a dedicated roof‑tent hub in Hall 7a, showcasing a wide range of models and innovations

    Source
    03

    Self‑sufficiency and off‑grid travel

Caravanners increasingly value long stand‑alone periods without external power. Solar panels, lithium batteries, and inverters enable greater independence. The off‑road area in Halls 16‑17 also showcases solutions for self‑sufficient travel

    Source
    04

    Digitalisation and sustainability

The industry focuses on green technology, lightweight construction, alternative drives (electric and hybrid RVs), and smart home integrations. The 'Destination Future' conference (31 August – 2 September) addresses digitalisation, sustainability, infrastructure, and economic impact

    05

    Motorhome growth versus caravan decline

Motorhome new registrations in Germany rose 1.4% in the first five months of 2026 (36,953 units), while caravans declined 8.4% (8,785 units). The market is polarising between compact, entry‑level models and premium luxury vehicles

    Punctuality and direct communication

German business culture values punctuality, direct communication, and thorough preparation- . Arrive on time for meetings and appointments. Handshakes are customary. Business attire is generally smart casual to formal at trade fairs

    Language and currency

While English is widely spoken in the trade fair environment, learning a few German phrases (e.g., 'Guten Tag', 'Danke') is appreciated. The currency is the Euro (EUR). Credit cards are widely accepted, but cash is still common in Germany

    Düsseldorf's local customs

Düsseldorf is known for its Altbier (dark beer) and the 'Altstadt' (Old Town) with over 300 pubs. The city is also famous for its fashion and art scene. The Rhine promenade is a popular spot for evening strolls. The local carnival (Karneval) season starts on 11 November, so the fair period is outside carnival season
