    Edition recap

    CHEST 2025 — Chicago, October 19–22, 2025

CHEST 2025 marked the 90th annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians and was held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. CHEST described it as its largest annual meeting to date, with 10,238 total attendees, including 7,271 professional attendees, 6,100 paid registrants and 7,184 registered attendees. The meeting produced 4,180 accepted abstracts and case reports and generated 10.1 million social media impressions.

The exhibit hall spanned roughly 68,000 square feet and hosted 174 companies across 183 booths, with 32 Learning Theaters, 4 Rapid Fire Pods hosting 128 sessions, and 5 poster areas displaying nearly 3,000 posters. Interactive features included a pop-up pickleball court, two escape rooms, therapy puppies, trivia games and a member centre giving away custom T-shirts.

Programme highlights included 200 clinical sessions, 36 on-site simulation courses (five debuting at this edition), and new educational digital and live games. The Chicago-themed live escape room attracted 280 participants. The meeting featured 31 CHEST education curriculum categories and a dedicated 90th anniversary timeline display in the convention centre.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed a Mayoral Proclamation declaring Sunday, October 19, 2025, as Love Your Lungs Day, coinciding with the first day of the meeting. CHEST also partnered with three local Chicago organisations through its Community Connections initiative, and an on-site volunteer event assembled care kits for Chicago residents with intellectual disabilities transitioning to independent housing.

CHEST 2025 drew attendees from across the globe, with a demographic mix of 43% physicians, 20% residents, and the remainder fellows, non-physician clinicians and industry representatives. Resident attendance has nearly tripled since 2019, from 557 to just under 1,500 in 2025.

Being part of CHEST has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career in pulmonary medicine. CHEST is more than an organization to me; it's a family that energizes my passion, lifts me when I doubt myself, and inspires me to excel in the field of medicine

Richa Nahar, MD · Assistant Professor and Faculty, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine · Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University and Northwell Health · 2025

There are a million reasons people come to CHEST, but, for me and many others, the top ones are to see everyone and to be around everyone in person

Gabriel T. Bosslet, MD, FCCP · Chair of the CHEST 2024 Scientific Program Committee · CHEST · 2025

As somebody who's been attending CHEST since I was a fellow, I am always really excited about what the next annual meeting will present. Friendships are made at CHEST—lifelong friendships with colleagues across the country. It's an excellent opportunity for networking and career advancement, especially for our junior faculty and fellows-in-training

Chitra Lal, MD, FCCP · Sleep Medicine Curriculum Group Lead · CHEST · 2025

They would meet me for lunch and sometimes for drinks afterward and taught me the ropes. It was such a cool experience because if I would have just gone by myself as a new provider, I would have been lost. Instead, I left feeling excited

Sarah Tomashefski, MSN, AGNP-C, FCCP · Member, CHEST Scientific Program Committee, and President-Elect, Association of Pulmonary Advanced Practice Providers · CHEST · 2026

In these sessions, I not only witness those 'light bulb' moments for the learners, but I also always come away with new insights myself. These connections and the shared knowledge make the meeting indispensable

    Why it matters

CHEST 2026 sits at the intersection of three rapidly evolving clinical markets: pulmonary medicine, critical care, and sleep medicine. The global pulmonary drugs market is projected to reach approximately $24.68 billion in 2026, growing at 8.48% CAGR to $40.01 billion by 2032. The respiratory care market is valued at approximately $31.46 billion, and the sleep disorder treatment market at $24.98 billion in 2026. For exhibitors, CHEST offers direct access to more than 7,000 professional attendees, including 43% physicians and 20% residents, at a meeting described by CHEST as its flagship annual event. The 2026 programme reflects the most consequential shifts in chest medicine: GLP-1 therapies entering the OSA treatment workflow, AI moving from radiology into clinical decision-making and medical education, biologics transforming severe asthma and COPD management, and disease-modifying therapies reshaping pulmonary arterial hypertension. More than 120 advanced sessions target mid- and late-career clinicians, while record-breaking abstract submissions demonstrate the accelerating pace of research. For device and pharmaceutical companies, the meeting provides a concentrated audience of decision-makers across the entire care team — from fellows and residents to department chiefs and APP leaders — at a time when treatment paradigms are being actively redefined

    01

GLP-1 therapies transform obstructive sleep apnea treatment

The FDA's December 2024 approval of tirzepatide (Zepbound) as the first prescription drug for moderate-to-severe OSA in adults with obesity marked a landmark shift. At CHEST 2026, the sleep medicine program explores GLP-1 medications for OSA from multiple angles, including the SynAIRgy and LunAIRo trials, a CHEST guideline on OSA management in pregnancy, and practical considerations for patients undergoing anesthesia. Real-world data now shows patients with an OSA diagnosis prescribed a GLP-1 are 10.7 percentage points more likely to start positive airway pressure therapy

Public transit: Valley Metro Light Rail serves the Phoenix Convention Center with stops at 3rd Street/Washington and 3rd Street/Jefferson. The Light Rail operates 18–22 hours per day, seven days a week, with trains every 12–20 minutes along a 28-mile line. Fare is $2 one-way or $4 for a day pass (adult)

Parking: Parking is available at the Phoenix Convention Center North Garage and other downtown garages. Daily rates typically range from $15 to $40, with the North Garage at approximately $21.50 per day. The venue is cashless and accepts credit/debit cards only. Decision

    Visit, exhibit, or skip?

    Should you go?

Answer eight questions about your specialty, role, budget, travel, and goals. Each answer contributes to a Visit, Exhibit, or Skip score. The outcome with the highest total determines your recommended path for CHEST 2026

    QUESTION 1 OF 8

What best describes your primary clinical specialty or industry focus?

    Decision matrix

Compare participation options side by side to choose the best fit for your objectives.

    visit

Your primary goal is clinical education, CME, or networking in pulmonary, critical care, or sleep medicine, and you have budget approval or can self-fund a $1,500–$3,000 trip

    Best for

Pulmonologists, critical care physicians, sleep medicine specialists, APPs, respiratory therapists, fellows, residents, and medical students seeking clinical education, CME, hands-on simulation training, and peer networking

    Min. budget

    $1,500.00

    Timeline

Register by October 5, 2026 for advance pricing; book hotel through onPeak by September 17, 2026 for CHEST block rates

    Risks

October 5 advance registration deadline — regular rates are up to $110 higher

Hotel block closes September 17 — rooms may be unavailable or more expensive afterward

Popular simulation courses and premeeting courses fill quickly and require separate fees

    exhibit

You have a product or service directly relevant to chest medicine, a confirmed budget of $8,000+, and staff available to work the exhibit hall October 19–21, 2026

    Best for

Medical device, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, digital health, and service companies targeting pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine clinicians who influence or make purchasing decisions

    Min. budget

    $8,000.00

    Timeline

Reserve booth space as early as possible — reservations are first come, first served. Advance registration pricing ends October 5, 2026; exhibitor installation begins October 16, 2026

    Risks

Booth space is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis

Exhibit hall competition is significant — 174 companies exhibited in 2025 (2025 data)

Lead capture and follow-up require advance planning; no official scanner vendor is publicly confirmed

Total exhibiting cost including booth, travel, staff, and materials typically far exceeds the booth fee alone

    skip

Your specialty, products, or goals do not align with pulmonary, critical care, or sleep medicine, or you lack the budget and decision-making authority to justify participation in 2026

    Best for

Professionals outside pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine; organisations with no product or service fit; and individuals without budget or decision-making authority

    Min. budget

    Not yet confirmed

    Timeline

    Not applicable

    Risks

CHEST 2026 is not a general medical meeting — it is tightly focused on chest medicine

Registration and travel costs are significant relative to value for non-specialists

The exhibit hall is clinical in focus and may not deliver relevant leads for non-chest-medicine vendors
