    Testimonials

I'm passionate about what I do. When I go to an event like AeroDef, I am looking forward to meeting colleagues and peers who are as passionate as I am about the things they can do for this country. I'm also looking at, are there possibilities for us to train workforce in these areas, and other collaborators who are looking to pick up our students and give them opportunities in these areas?

    Impact

    A bigger and stronger platform

AeroDef Manufacturing 2025 is the first time that the event has moved to Detroit. It will be held at the same time and in the same place as three major industry events: RAPID+TCT, SAE WCX and America Makes TRX, forming a rare industry synergy in the North American manufacturing industry. During the three-day exhibition period, participants witnessed the release of 37 new products and experienced 77 dynamic booths. Major General Michael Lalor, commander of the U.S. Army Tank and Automobile Command, delivered an opening speech, emphasizing Detroit’s historical heritage as the “Arsenal of Democracy” and its future mission as the “Arsenal of Innovation.” AeroDef occupies an exclusive area in the RAPID+TCT exhibition hall, with more than 75 exhibitors and a daily aerospace and defense keynote speech stage, providing attendees with a channel to connect with new partners in the fields of ground systems, aerospace, maritime and space. The SME Composites Technology Community awarded the Jud Hall Award, the Emerging Innovator Award and the Excellence in Composites Award during the event.

    Market context

Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

North America, the world's largest market for aerospace and defense additive manufacturing, accounting for approximately 40% of the global market share in 2026

    Why it matters

AeroDef Manufacturing 2026 is at a critical turning point in aerospace and defense manufacturing. The global additive manufacturing market size in aerospace and defense is expected to grow from approximately US$6.4 billion in 2025 to US$11.374 billion in 2032. The U.S. Department of Defense promotes the expansion of production capacity of key defense components such as missile interceptor components through the framework agreement, releasing a strong demand signal. As one of the three focus exhibition areas of RAPID + TCT, AeroDef provides buyers with a screened path to directly connect with suppliers and technology providers that have passed defense-level certification. This is the premier platform for exhibitors to directly reach U.S. military decision-makers, major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. At the same time, AeroDef India was held in New Delhi at the same time, attracting 250+ exhibitors and 10,000+ professional visitors, forming a synergy of aerospace and defense manufacturing across two continents. The educational content of AeroDef 2026 covers cutting-edge directions such as sustainability, cybersecurity, AI, and additive manufacturing. It is a key outpost for understanding how additive manufacturing moves from technology hype to industrial deployment.

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

Additive manufacturing moves from prototypes to large-scale production

Aerospace and defense additive manufacturing is accelerating from the rapid prototyping stage to repeatable, certifiable production applications. The global additive manufacturing market size in aerospace and defense is expected to grow from approximately US$6.4 billion in 2025 to US$11.374 billion in 2032 (CAGR 8.8%). North America continues to dominate the market with defense modernization, aircraft engine programs and supply chain security requirements.

    Source
    02

Defense budget strongly drives investment in additive manufacturing

The U.S. Department of Defense views additive manufacturing as a key tool to strengthen the resilience of the defense industrial base and supply chain. Major contractors such as Northrop Grumman are signing long-term framework agreements worth more than $3 billion with the Department of Defense to accelerate production of critical defense components such as missile interceptor components. The demand for additive manufacturing in the defense sector is moving from the laboratory to large-scale deployment.

    Source
    03

AI, automation and sustainable manufacturing are reshaping industries

AI-driven design optimization, robotic automation, digital engineering and sustainable manufacturing are becoming core themes in aerospace and defense manufacturing. AeroDef 2026’s educational content covers sustainability, cybersecurity, AI and additive manufacturing. Lightweight, high-performance alloys, sustainable aviation fuels and low-emission propulsion systems are driving the development of next-generation aerospace and defense platforms.

    Source
    04

Supply chain resilience and acceleration of localized production

The global aerospace and defense industry is accelerating efforts to localize production and diversify supply chains. The shrinking U.S. defense industrial base (DIB) has raised concerns about supply chain security. From AeroDef India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiative to the indigenization trend in North American defense manufacturing, additive manufacturing is seen as a key enabling technology to mitigate supply chain risks.
