    Market context

Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA), with primary focus on the GCC construction and urban development market centred on the UAE and Saudi Arabia

    Why it matters

The MEASA region is undergoing a construction and urban development transformation driven by government-led economic programmes including. We the UAE 2031, Saudi Vision 2030, New Kuwait 2035 and Oman Vision 2040. These programmes are creating sustained, long-term demand across the full construction value chain — from building materials, HVACR and MEP to digital construction, geospatial technologies and facilities management. Saudi Arabia's construction industry is forecast to grow 5.4% annually through 2029, while the UAE expects steady growth with around 3% cost escalation in 2026. The region's active project pipeline — spanning transport, energy, healthcare, hospitality and residential megaprojects — is driving demand for more efficient project delivery, technology adoption, sustainable solutions and future-ready workforce capabilities. Big 5 Global 2026 sits at the centre of this ecosystem, connecting over 2,800 exhibitors from more than 60 countries with developers, contractors, consultants, architects, engineers and procurement professionals who are shaping how these projects are delivered. The event's four strategic priorities — Supply Chain Resilience, Technology Advancement, Sustainable Transformation and Future-Ready Workforce — directly reflect the region's evolving built environment needs and the opportunities available to businesses operating across the construction value chain.

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

AI, Digital Twins and Automation Reshape Project Delivery

The GCC construction sector is accelerating adoption of artificial intelligence, digital twins, modular systems and AI-driven tools that transform workflows from planning through handover. Purposeful technology adoption — focused on delivery outcomes rather than novelty — is now the dominant approach in the UAE and across the region, with live demonstrations and case studies showcasing robotics, automation and digital construction across major project pipelines. Big 5 Global 2026 reflects this through its Technology Advancement priority and the co-located Digital Construction World and GeoWorld events.

    02

Modular and Industrialised Construction Goes Mainstream

Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) is gaining regulatory traction in Dubai, with CSCEC becoming the first Chinese enterprise to secure Dubai Municipality's in-principle pre-approval for low-rise and mid-rise MiC systems. Strategic partnerships such as SIBS and LINQ Modular aim to deliver up to 1,500 modular units annually across the Middle East, targeting faster, more predictable and sustainable residential and mixed-use developments. This trend is supported by Big 5 Global's Heavy and Totally Concrete specialist events.

    03

Sustainability and Low-Carbon Materials Move from Policy to Practice

Sustainability is transitioning from aspiration to implementation across the MEASA built environment. Dubai Municipality launched the Existing Buildings Greening Guide in September 2026 to provide a practical framework for improving energy and water efficiency. Holcim launched low-carbon cement achieving a 30% reduction in carbon footprint alongside a circular construction technology platform in the UAE. Big 5 Global 2026 spotlights Sustainable Transformation as a core priority, with dedicated sessions across the Leadership Summits.

    Source
    04

Supply Chain Resilience Becomes Strategic Imperative

With around 28% of global construction contractors ranking inflation and economic volatility as their most significant business risk, the industry is responding with more selective bidding, tighter contract terms and greater assessment of subcontractors and supply chains. In the GCC, cement supply increased 4% and average concrete supply 13% between Q4 2025 and Q2 2026, signalling an active, competitive and well-resourced market. Big 5 Global 2026 makes Supply Chain Resilience one of its four headline priorities.

    Source
    05

    Future-Ready Workforce and Skills Development

As government-led programmes including. We the UAE 2031, Saudi Vision 2030, New Kuwait 2035 and Oman Vision 2040 drive long-term investment, demand for skilled construction professionals is intensifying. Big 5 Global 2026 identifies Future-Ready Workforce as a core priority, with sessions exploring workforce capabilities, training and the talent pipeline needed to deliver the region's $1.7 trillion project pipeline. The event brings together over 500 speakers to address these workforce challenges.

    06

Regional Project Pipelines Remain Strong Despite Headwinds

Despite tighter fiscal conditions and geopolitical risk, the Middle East remains one of the world's main construction growth leaders. Saudi Arabia's construction industry is expected to grow by an average of 5.4% a year through 2029, supported by transport, energy, industrial and housing projects including infrastructure for Expo 2030 Riyadh and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The UAE construction sector is forecast to grow steadily in 2026 with cost escalation around 3%, driven by logistics, energy and commercial real estate investment.

Similar Construction and Built Environment Events Across the MEASA Circuit

The circuit spans the full calendar year, with major events concentrated in Q1 (January–April), Q2 (May–June), Q3 (August–September) and Q4 (October–November). Big 5 Global in late November is the flagship anchor event. Exhibitors targeting multiple markets should plan a 6–12 month lead time for stand design, logistics and travel arrangements across the circuit.

Big 5 Global 2026 sits within a dense circuit of construction and built environment events spanning the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The circuit is anchored by the Big 5 Construct series — with editions in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and South Africa — alongside major regional shows including Project Qatar, JIBEX, Saudi Projects Show and Project Oman. For international exhibitors and trade visitors, these events offer complementary opportunities to engage the MEASA construction ecosystem across different markets and regulatory environments. Planning a circuit strategy that clusters geographically adjacent events can significantly improve return on travel and exhibition investment.

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Business Dress Code

Business attire is expected at Big 5 Global. Men typically wear conservative suits or smart business wear. Women should opt for modest attire covering shoulders and knees; sleeveless tops, short skirts, and revealing clothing are generally not appropriate in business settings. A light jacket or pashmina is useful for heavily air-conditioned halls.

    Greetings and Titles

A handshake is common between men in business settings, but men should wait for a woman to extend her hand first before offering a handshake. Address counterparts by their professional title or Mr./Ms. followed by their first name. Accepting offers of tea, coffee, or dates is considered a sign of respect and helps build rapport.

    Prayer Times and Schedule Impact

Daily prayer times may briefly affect exhibition activity, as some stands and services may pause. Prayer rooms are available at the venue on the 2nd floor of Sheikh Rashid Hall for both men and women. Plan meeting schedules with flexibility around prayer times, particularly during the mid-afternoon period.

    Business Communication Style

Relationship-building is important in UAE business culture. Expect a measured approach to negotiations; high-pressure sales tactics are generally counterproductive. Face-to-face meetings are preferred for important discussions. Punctuality is appreciated, but be prepared for some flexibility in scheduling. Avoid direct refusals or confrontational language — tact and patience are valued.

    Gift-Giving Etiquette

If exchanging gifts, offer and receive items with both hands or the right hand. Avoid alcohol and pork products as gifts unless you are certain of the recipient's preferences. High-quality branded items, office accessories, or items from your home country are generally well received.

    Networking and Hospitality

Business networking in Dubai often extends beyond the exhibition floor. Accepting invitations for coffee or meals is a positive signal. Dubai's business community is multicultural, but Emirati and regional partners appreciate respect for local customs. Building trust and showing genuine interest in the market go a long way toward successful long-term relationships.

    Should you go?

Answer 7 quick questions about fit, budget, timing and travel. Your recommendation updates live.

    QUESTION 1 OF 7

How closely does your product or sourcing need match Big 5 Global's 17 product sectors (for example concrete, MEP, HVACR, digital construction, building envelope)?

    Decision matrix

Compare participation options side by side to choose the best fit for your objectives.

    visit

You have an active sourcing, specification or market-entry need in construction and want face-to-face supplier comparison, and you can commit at least one full show day.

    Best for

Contractors, consultants, architects, developers, facility managers and procurement teams who want to compare suppliers across 17 product sectors, attend CPD-certified Big 5 Talks and scout MEASA projects in one trip.

    Min. budget

    $1,000.00

    Timeline

4 to 6 weeks: buy the ticket (early-bird price ends 15 Oct 2026), sort entry and visa requirements, book travel and shortlist exhibitors.

    Risks

Early-bird Visitor ticket (AED 100) ends 15 Oct 2026 and tickets are non-refundable.

Visitors under 21 are not admitted.

Large multi-hall show: unplanned visits tend to waste days, so shortlist exhibitors and sessions in advance.

Leadership Summit access needs a Delegate or VIP Delegate ticket, not the Visitor ticket.

    exhibit

You have a core sector match, a funded MEASA growth plan, a team that can follow up leads and the ability to confirm a stand and logistics within the next 2 to 3 weeks.

    Best for

Manufacturers, suppliers and technology vendors whose products fit the 17 sectors and who want direct access to MEASA buyers, distributors and agents. The organiser reports that 77% of attendees are decision-makers (organiser claim, 2025 survey basis).

    Timeline

Ideally 8 or more weeks. At this point (T-45) stand booking, design approval, freight and staff visas must all be compressed; confirm availability with the organiser immediately.

    Risks

Stand pricing is not published; confirm cost and what is included before committing.

Official freight, insurance and stand-rule deadlines were not found publicly, so timing risk is unquantified.

Late booking limits stand location and build time; the organiser says spaces are selling fast.

Results depend on staff capacity to qualify and follow up 4 days of conversations.

    skip

Your product or sourcing need sits outside the 17 sectors, MEASA is not a focus market, or you lack the budget, travel eligibility or follow-up capacity to benefit.

    Best for

Companies outside the built environment, teams without MEASA exposure in the next 12 months, or anyone who cannot meet the 21+ age rule or travel and budget requirements.

    Timeline

None. Revisit the next edition once your sector and regional priorities are clearer.

    Risks

You miss one of the region's largest annual supplier showcases for construction and urban development.

Competitors present on site may gain early access to buyers and distributors in the region.

Content from the summits and talks is available only on site or through registered access.
