    Market context

Key market insights, trends, news and related events to help you understand the bigger picture.

Asia Pacific — Singapore and Southeast Asia built environment sector, with global relevance for construction technology, sustainability, and urban infrastructure

    Why it matters

IBEW 2026 matters because it sits at the intersection of Singapore's most significant construction demand cycle in decades and the sector's most profound technological and sustainability transition. With S$47–53 billion in projected construction demand for 2026 and sustained demand of S$39–46 billion per year through 2030, the APAC built environment market offers substantial commercial opportunities for solution providers. Yet the industry faces critical challenges: only 16% of construction businesses in Asia Pacific have reached advanced digital capability, and workforce skills is the weakest area, according to Autodesk and Deloitte's State of Digital Adoption report. Singapore's regulatory push — including the upcoming mandatory CORENET X digital submission framework from October 2026, the 80-80-80 sustainability targets with 66% of buildings already greened as of July 2026, and new funding schemes such as the Robot Leasing Support Scheme — creates a concrete policy environment where compliance and competitiveness converge. IBEW 2026 provides buyers with a curated view of market-ready AI, robotics and sustainability solutions from over 200 exhibiting brands, while offering exhibitors direct access to decision-makers actively implementing digitalisation and decarbonisation strategies. The event's shift to senior leadership positioning for 2026 reflects the industry's recognition that transformation now requires board-level commitment, not just operational adoption. For international exhibitors, IBEW offers a gateway to Singapore's regulatory-driven adoption cycle and a springboard into wider Southeast Asian markets where infrastructure investment remains robust

    Industry trends

Key trends shaping this market and its wider industry.

    01

AI moves from pilot to practical deployment across the built environment lifecycle

Artificial intelligence is shifting from experimental trials to real-world implementation across design, engineering, construction, operations and asset management. At IBEW 2026, approximately 60% of BEX Asia exhibitors showcased AI-related products or solutions, and about 25% launched new products. According to Autodesk and Deloitte's State of Digital Adoption in the Construction Industry 2026, AI or machine learning tools are now used by 46% of construction businesses across Asia Pacific, up from around one-quarter in 2023. Data analytics is used by 56% of businesses, construction management cloud software by 50%, and mobile apps by 47%. However, only 16% of businesses have reached advanced digital capability, with workforce and skills identified as the weakest area

    02

Singapore advances toward 80-80-80 sustainability targets with 66% of buildings greened

Singapore's Singapore Green Building Masterplan sets three key targets under the '80-80-80 in 2030' framework: 80% of buildings by gross floor area (GFA) to be green by 2030, 80% of new developments by GFA to be Super Low Energy (SLE) buildings from 2030 onwards, and 80% improvement in energy efficiency compared to 2005 levels for best-in-class green buildings by 2030. As of July 2026, 66% of buildings by GFA have been greened. Singapore's buildings sector accounts for over 20% of national emissions. BCA and the Singapore Green Building Council have jointly developed a Built Environment Decarbonisation Technology Roadmap identifying close to 70 key technologies and strategies to guide developers and building owners toward net-zero emissions by 2050

CORENET X mandatory digital submission transforms regulatory compliance from October 2026

From 1 October 2026, submission via CORENET X Gateway Processes will be mandatory for all new building projects regardless of size. This follows the earlier mandate from 1 October 2025 for projects with GFA of 30,000m² and above. All ongoing projects must be moved onto the platform by October 2027. The platform requires BIM-based submissions and integrates regulatory approval workflows across multiple agencies. This regulatory shift is driving significant investment in digital delivery capabilities, workforce retraining, and BIM software adoption across Singapore's built environment sector

    Cultural notes

Useful information to help you have a smooth and respectful visit.

    Business Etiquette and Formality

Singapore business culture is generally formal and punctual. A firm handshake is the standard greeting. Business cards are commonly exchanged with both hands. Respect for seniority is important and can influence who is involved in direct business discussions. Start slightly formal and warm up from there; use titles and surnames until invited otherwise. Dress code for IBEW 2026 is business, without a coat or tie. Bermudas, shorts, ripped jeans, singlets, slippers, and beach sandals are strictly not allowed. Meetings tend to begin with conclusions rather than context, and feedback may be direct

    Language and Communication

English is the primary language of business in Singapore and is widely spoken. Official languages include English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. IBEW 2026 is conducted in English. Singapore English (Singlish) is a colloquial patois that blends English with Chinese, Malay and Indian influences, but standard English is used in professional settings. Being polite, clear, and measured in tone is appreciated

    Tipping and Payment

Tipping is generally not expected in Singapore. Many restaurants and hotels include a 10% service charge, and tipping is discretionary. Major credit cards are widely accepted. IBEW 2026 accepts VISA and Mastercard, bank transfer and Vendors@GOV for conference pass payments. Cash is accepted at most food centres and small retailers. Prices and rules are generally fixed, with no room for haggling

    Local Customs and Dining

Hawker centres are a unique part of Singapore's culinary culture, offering affordable local dishes. Popular dishes include chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow and chilli crab. Smoking is banned in most indoor public places, and chewing gum is prohibited from sale. Alcohol consumption in public places is restricted between 10.30pm and 7am. Business lunches and dinners are common for networking, and the venue at Marina Bay Sands offers diverse dining options including Michelin-recognised stalls at Rasapura Masters food court

    Visitor & Exhibitor Essentials

Everything needed to arrive prepared, navigate the event, and make the visit productive.

    Flights

    Destination: Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)

Book flights early to secure better fares, especially for travel during the F1 Singapore Grand Prix period (typically mid-to-late September). Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and other major carriers operate direct flights from most major Asian cities. Consider arriving 1–2 days before the event to adjust and explore. Changi Airport offers 24-hour Ground Transport Concierges for transfer assistance

    Visa

Visa requirements for Singapore are nationality-dependent. Most nationalities, including citizens of ASEAN member states, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and most European Union countries, do not require a visa for short-term business or social visits of up to 30 days. Nationals of Assessment Level I countries — including India, China, Georgia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States — require a valid Singapore entry visa. All travellers must submit the SG Arrival Card within 3 days before arrival. A valid visa does not guarantee entry; the grant of an immigration pass is determined by ICA officers at the point of entry

    Estimated cost: Not yet confirmed

Processing: Typically 3–5 working days for complete Assessment Level I applications; allow 10–15 calendar days for safer planning. ICA's general processing time is within 2 weeks from submission for complete applications

Visa applications can be submitted online via the SAVE e-Service through a strategic partner or local contact in Singapore, or at the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission or through its authorised visa agent. Apply within 30 days prior to arrival. A Letter of Introduction (LOI) using Form V39A may be required on a case-by-case basis. The visa fee is SGD 30 (approximately USD 22). The period of stay granted upon entry is determined by the Visit Pass issued at the checkpoint and is not tied to the visa validity

    Min. budget

High competition for attendee attention with 200+ exhibiting brands

Lead follow-up requires a structured CRM process to convert contacts into pipeline

    skip

Your products or services are outside the built environment value chain, you have no active APAC market strategy, or you cannot justify the travel and participation costs within your 2026 budget
